Wow! I'm jealous. I was there for my honeymoon in 2008 and had a blast. Just a tip.... Don't eat at the restaurant on the main avenues. They're good, don't get my wrong, but the best food I had was a small restaurant on a back alley. It was packed and hot, but it had the best seafood pizza, yes SEAFOOD pizza. Have fun. Oh, the city isn't dangerous, but hang on to you wallet in crowds. I saw a few pickpockets get arrested.

I've been to Rome in 1994, 1997 and 2001. I would return in a second! What a great city with a tremendous history. I was never robbed or hassled by anyone. I'm sorry to say that when we went on the organized tours we stayed away from the American tourists (I'm an American) because they're generally behave poorly. We toured with the Japanese who were, cordial, polite and their children were very well behaved.
