  • what exhaust setup gets a deep grumble like this? my dad and i are rebuilding a '70 240z and when we bought it, it only had a 6-2 header. anyone have a recommendation for what to do from the header back?

  • @240zguy240 Run open headers dude! :P

  • @megustaface yeah im sure the neighbors will appreciate that lol

  • Nothing displacing 2.4 litres is going to make anywhere near 300 HP on SU carbs. This myth is busted

  • you can crank 470ish hp out of a L28 so anyone who says 300 is not possible can go drink bleach

  • I have a 280Z (N42 head and block) .30 over, ported and polished head w/ oversized stainless valves. HiComp pistons, MSA 6-2-1 header, and a Schnider street cam (460 lift 270 duration) Fuel delivery is from ZTherapy bored carbs with polished slides, all this and I don't even have 300hp. Real HP figures to be about 250-260. To hit 300hp you need these mods, plus tri webbers, and a stroker set up. Because my set up is in a lighter 240z chassis it only feels like 300. Just like this guy is thinks.

  • idk about that hp, but if you had the carbs bored with crazy internals you might be around 200-50 ish power out of the l24..... but i will never really know hah

  • just feel like abusing someone... DICKHEAD, YOU COULD HAVE WARMED THE FUCKING ENGINE UP FIRST YOU STUPID CUNT, THEN OVER 42,000 PEOPLE WOULDNT HAVE TO LISTEN TO THIS "COLD SHIT". ONCE AGAIN FUCK YOU.

  • sounds like shit and it has a knock

  • @FordsRule351 Love your work :D

  • This one may not have 300hp, but you can squeeze 365hp out of an L28: just ask Dave Rebello of Rebello Racing.

  • why are there soooo many hater's in the datsun world....we should be giving advice helping one another not talking shit. if you dont like whats posted fuck it and move on !

  • Sorry to say this but it has to be done. Your an idiot to be revving a cold engine.

  • dont worry its jsut 300 pigmey horsepower (300php)

  • my stock 240 just started cold after sitting for 2 months and it sounds better then this, and i didnt have to use starting fluid. there are cars with crazy modded l28 gettng 200hp. you would have to atleast have a turbo or v8 to be getting any more then that.

  • @7570917 200hp in an L28 isn't really that hard to reach N/A. Get a decent cam, intake, and exhaust and 200 is possible. Upgrading the computer will give you more power too. From my understanding, upgrading from the stock ECU to a Megasquirt ECU can release 40 hp and give you better cruising mpg. L28's have 170 hp(SAE) so thats around 145 hp in the car w/ accessories(from my understanding, again). With "crazy mods" guys in Japan get close to 400hp. With a turbo, 500+ I've heard

  • Its got a miss

  • i just got cheated out of 53 seconds

  • you can not make 300hp, with 2 Su carbs, not enough flow, hell even with triple webers you are going to need some decent head porting. or a bump up to 3.1L which arguably destroys any rebuild-ability of the engine. if you want to make an S30 faster fix the handling, then the engine.

Anyway this is a fairly clean car and props to the fact that it is still running and on the road.

    Datsuns rule.

  • Ok...I've read all the trash talkin' from everybody who left a comment. So, what is under the hood? Who built it and do you have chassis dyno sheets to prove it? I built a Z for a buddy and Dave Rebello told me that this L-30 is just a bit under 200 hp. (and yes...with worked SU's) Another guy I know had a Z with about 220 hp. in full race trim...It looks really good though.

  • fram oil filter ur a disgrace...

  • Agreed. Frams are utter shit.

  • 300HP....Errr....don't think so! I doubt if it is 200hp.

Very hard to get 100hp/litre...and that motor sure aint anywhere near that spec.

  • A fully built L28 block with forged internals and the works plus racing gas is capable of producing 800HP (citing Tom Monroe) making the Z the most ferocious latent potential on the road of any classic car. The block is virtually indestructible. A stroker L28 without turbos is capable of over 300HP.

We should also be careful how horsepower is measured when people are throwing around HP figures. On an engine stand with nothing hooked up is far different than getting dynoed under road load.

  • Youre a wee bit optimistic for the L series and those results are -far- from the norm. When going to those extremes those numbers can be said for damn near any motor of similar displacement.

  • Who said they weren't far from the norm? We're talking about a 135-145 HP stock motor here. I can say 800HP is far from the norm for damn near any motor of similar displacement.

I think instead of me being optimistic about the L28, you're too optimistic for most motors of similar displacement. L28s are internally balanced, unlike most engines that rely on harmonic balancers or other balancing parts-mix 'n match to deal with their torsional vibration.

  • I don't really care to hear untried theories of people that any engine can produce 800HP. This is severely ignorant of an engine's inherent design and the cost required to modity it. First, if there's a short list of ~168ci engines that have made 800HP, I've never seen it. And second, if some idiot wants to spend 10x or 100x as much money building an unproven engine to those specs because they don't like my optimism, I won't get in that fool's way.

  • yes the engines can handle it, but the trannys are weak- i have an '83 280ZX NA 5 spd, and the trannys are the cars weak point

  • dude the timing is off!

  • Definitely not 300 hp, or anything close to it.

  • @mickeyqbitsko 150 hp according to the L24 data plate in engine bay.

  • @mickeyqbitsko NO where near 300HP. Probably putting out about 200-220WHP MAX I have a fully built High Compression L2.8 with triple weber 45's The best Fiber optic(Kameri) Distributor/Ignition you can buy for that motor, every thing else you can get and I'm barely getting 250WHP

  • Diethyl Ether. My favorite.

  • for a bad quality camera it still sounds good... oh I SO love that sound...

  • Get rid of the Hitachi Su carbs. I had triple webers on my 240 and I have no idea how you expect to get good HP out of your engine with those carbs.

  • You can not make 300hp on that engine with su's, i will not even bother going into the many other reasons why that motor is nowhere near that power!!! However these engines are capable of 300hp but have extensive mods to do so!

  • I wouldn't say extensive....a good street motor should produce about 50 hp per cylinder, in this case, 300.

  • That statement is so far from even being close to "rule of thumb" its almost not funny. But it still is.

  • I've seen 12 second E.T. passes on SU carbs. It's totally doable if you ditch the oil and jet it properly with the right nozzles and needles.

I'm sure you could get a 300+hp motor from an N42 on an L28 with some valve work and a good exhaust system, even with SU's. Even an L24 can pull those numbers naturally aspirated if you've got the right deck and the right quench piston.

I won't condone or condemn, but the exhaust sounds good, even through the digital camera/ cell phone video.

  • what mods/ i dont believe it even has near 200hp. sounds like crap.

  • its 180 stock at best i have an l24e.but they do all sound shitty cause the chattery overhead single cam

  • How much power do the fuel injected l28s have stock?

  • The L28E is the enlarged 2.8 L (2753 cc, 168 cu in) engine produced from 19751984 with dish-top pistons and a resulting compression ratio of 8.3:1. For model year 1981 through model year 1983, the L28E received flat-top pistons and a high quench head, raising the compression ratio to 8.8:1, and thus increasing the power rating from 135 hp (101 kW) (19751980) to 145 hp (108 kW) (19811983).There is an l26 and l24 too,the l26 is actually 162 hp! it was a hybrid and not long lived motor a shame.

  • but the 2.6 had the heaviest flywheel, so the fun to rev 2.4 went away...

  • that sounds like shit

  • flat tops??? 300hp??? ahahahahahahahahahahahaha yeah in ur a s s

  • i really dont see 300hp

  • but you can hear 300hp ;)

  • it still dont sound like 300hp.. sounds like a rotary..

  • listen to the engine miss and look at the smoke.... probably doesnt make 100 HP. Not firing on all 6 consistantly...

  • I call shenanigans.

A naturally aspirated sub 3 liter inline-6 would have serious difficulty making 300hp. Oh yeah- when someone claims a nice round number like 300, 400, 450 etc it will be treated rather dubiously, and usually means the owner has no idea. During Test and Tune passes at the local drag strip my 33 year old 263hp Mazda Rotary Truck regularly mops the floor with '450hp' cars.

Nice car, modern classic but please for gods sake replace valve stem seals.

  • get of that fuckin' FRAM oil "filter"

  • this is slurp408...

    im now justinzca18det

this car is really an L30 stroker

and the carbs have been tuned and jetted by rebello racing

    the car actually makes 240whp...

    runs 12's all day.

my next move is a stock rb25det, then paint.

  • maybe about 160hp to 180 but it does not have no 300hp. my 3.0 L28 with a 4 barrel 600cfm holley maybe makes 300 but i doubt it

  • stock L24 does 151 so i would say around 200+ ur way to low. if it is 240 like justinca18det says that doesnt suprize me but 300 is way to much

  • 300hp on a 2.4 liter with dualies? Not going to happen. Hell, the best L engine builders can barely make a three liter L series engine put out 300whp.

  • I have seen over 400.. But, I doubt that has the power claimed.

  • What does that have to do anything? Comparing a NA straight six with carbs to a turbo four banger running fuel injection?

  • i can hear that it doesnt have 300. maybe 195

  • 300 hp on s.u. carbs?? i wanna see that. cause i dont believe that.

  • could be alot of stuff that makes it a 300 hp, forged pistons, bored up, camshaft, etc etc

  • 250-300 is good numbers for an L6 turbo but an L24 with SU's? lucky if your hitting near 200 with a heavy moded L24. 300hp is total BS

  • if it is 300 HP what kind of mods dus it have kuz i dont see any big HP adders

Its prity nice looking Z though =)

  • its actually 30.0 hp.

  • 300HP with 2x SU carby HAHAHAHAHA what a day dreamer.

    It doesnt even run right.

  • 300hp, come on man. The truth will set you free.

  • SWEET AZ HELL!!! GREAT VIDEO!i'm selling two (2) Z cars. 1 is a 72 240 the other a 5/74 260 ..i've got pic links on my channel check em out....let's talk!

  • Nice ride, but there is no way your getting 300hp with SU's (get rid of em, they are a pain in the arse anyway), big cam, head work and tripple dcoe's and yeah i would believe it!

  • This car should be around 160hp(net) at the crank with a mild cam, SM needles, L26 crank, and 10.5:1 comp ratio... 300hp it would have to be a stroked 2.8 with Triple DCOE's and and heavy cam...

  • yeah true i think ur right its probly only around 160 -190 hp at the flywheel

  • i call bullsh!t on that claim

  • lies. I'd be a little more convinced if you ran triples.

  • sounds like you running on one carb Is the mooter stroked with a L2.8 crank ?

  • 300 hp from an l24? Whats been done to it?

  • Nice! I like those wheels
