CLEAN COAL? That is an oxymoron. OBAMA is a liar, crook, & a fraud. Coal is CLEAN energy? OBAMA wants to back the COAL UNIONs. OBAMA says he is for clean energy, but it is just a bunch of B/S. It means more dues for his UNION cronies. Same with CAP/TRADE, raise your taxes, & energy prices saying you take that money for windmills, BULLSHIT! All going to state deficits to pay off the UNIONs outrageous salaries & pensions!
turbines which is coupled to electric generators to turn it around . the first layer of water (superheated to 1000F) Steam can be much higher than 212 degrees F as long as it is sealed in super strong pipe system and heat exhanger used to boil the second layer of water at lower temperatures ( probably 300 degree or so) the first layer of radioactive water is smaller in volume but it can boil the much bigger second layer of water system. Interesting?
sogg if everyone is sick of paying utility bills and everyone burns firewood, can you live with that??? You will not be able to see your hands infront of you due to the smoke all over! When you dust , you will see blackish soot on your dustrag. You will not live long.. Use your common sense be more considerate of others.. Some is very sensitive .. Pay your friggin' uitilty bills!!
Coal is dirty from start to finish! and it's residue is on the hands and dollar bills of the industry that profits from it! We need solutions that are decentralized, renewable and don't produce toxins.
hey junkyardnut ever thought of moving to a subdevision some where where wood is not commen cause i dont see why your nabor would care about where you live thats just as much your option as it is his i tell you this just cause my nabor came over and told me my wood smoke choked him up that does not offer a salution for me most people who burn wood are sick of paying for heat why don't you pay his gas bill mabe he would stop burning
One of the best ways to save the environment is to elect Officials that will focus on reducing immigration.
In America, nearly all the population growth in the last 40 years has been via immigration, over 100 million more and we are on track to go to 500 million in a few decades. The world does not need 300 million more American consumers and America does not need 300 million more immigrants. Go to Numbersusa for more info on immigration and to fax your senators for free.
Almost exactly an open secret it's a minor crisis and I am clearly confused but I hear a deafening silence now that we are alone together we have to find the larger half. Ahh CLEAN COAL,
Coal does not have to be part of our energy future at all. Why are we even talking about it? It's the dirtiest fossil fuel and it's killing us. Get rid of it! Or there will be civil disobedience to occupy/shut them down.
It's embarrassing for me that we're even having this conversation as a country. How could anyone think coal is clean? It's true what they say: if you repeat it enough, people will believe you.
LOL, only Americans believe what they hear on TV; they're the most brainless people on Earth. I live in America but am Armenian, so don't accuse me of using a double standard just 'cause I live in this shithole. I have to deal with idiot Americans everyday so I know I'm right that the stupidest people in the developed world are without a doubt moron Americans.
UN global warming conference currently underway in Poland is about to face a serious challenge from over 650 dissenting scientists from around the globe who are criticizing the climate claims made by the UN IPCC and former Vice President Al Gore. Set for release this week, a newly updated U.S. Senate Minority Report features the dissenting voices of over 650 international scientists, many current and former UN IPCC scientists, who have now turned against the UN.
You again... what, you just go to every video that is enlightening people to the propaganda people like you spread and posting this same exact message?
As I've already pointed out on another video, this "list" is total bunk fabricated by Sen. Inhofe.
i just cannot stand those irrational commentaries usually made by experts on TV or Internet.. we are still burning firewood, for heaven's sake!! spewing so much soot and particulates far more than the combined total of all coal powerplants.. Why?? All of our chimneys and stove pipes are not even regulated by EPA. They are just blowholes without any filters or scrubbers or whateve.. Just blow soot and particulates all over the neighborhoods and everyone start wondering why they have allergies..
Where did I talk about "clean" firewood? Besides, there are not the same levels of toxins in wood as there are in coal. Stop talking about things you obviously know nothing about.
You will probably not think you will ever have to talk about clean firewood simply because people dont care... So why should we care about you and clean coal?? Get the drift... It is all about fairness... Also farmers and ranchers are burning crop waste and dead branches,... for what?? When you mulitpy it by thousands or millions of them.. This is serious stuff, man! Weathermen start using charts on TV show cautioning "no burn" or "clean firewood".. You dont seem to dig it, eh?
Do you mean firewood that doesn't have paint or other treatments? Because there is an important difference. There is no such thing as "clean" coal, so I don't know what your talking about.
Why do you keep asking if I "dig it?" What is there to dig? You aren't making any relevant or even logical comments.
Are you ready to trust that everybody would not toss something toxic in the open fireplaces anywhere? You know how kids is... I am sure that you smell somehting really nasty from time to time and wonder what that idiot is burning in the house. Are you telling me that there is such thing like clean firewood? , I think not.. Pound for pound, coal is more strictly controlled than firewood. EPA doesnt cover individual polluters but just corporate polluters. Individual polluters are so scattered.
California is boasting no coal plants but actually is importing 20% of electricity from Nevada and other states that burn coal. California is not aware of that. Coal is everywhere and you will have to turn off a lot of lights to get rid of coal. Firewood can be your source of lighting and clothes drying if you want. It is pure fantasy to call it no such clean coal.. The coal guys are working on it while yo are tossing tomatoes and eggs at them.. it is a thankless job.
Farmers and ranchers dont have to burn anything just to clean up areas.. If it is not toxic , then it definitely is climate changing to burn unnecessary crop waste and dead brancehs . This is a good place to start as far as climate change is concerned. Firewood and charcoal is other good area to reduce.. Every bit helps.. We dont need to burn anything.. It would be wonderful if we are able to obtain even 50% of our electricity from green energy. We are not even there by a long shot..
Also, the CO2 released from burning wood and plant material is part of the existing carbon cycle. The CO2 released by fossil fuel burning is carbon that has been sequestered and out of the carbon cycle for millions of years.
That is an extremely important distinction and the crux of AGW.
C02 is not toixc and it is only 10% of the greenhouse gases.. Water vapor is 50% of greenhouse gases. Why hasten release of C02 by burning? Why cannot you let wood decay naturally .. Funny, you never mention soot and particulates.. Plus chimneys is much closer to you than coal smokestacks.. I can go on and on... What about weather reports that start including firewood alerts.. They are already starting to declare no burn days when air gets bad.. Air do get bad with firewood smoke.. wake up
CO2 is acidifying the oceans, it's not toxic but just because a substance isn't toxic doesn't mean there's no problems.
I never said I was okay with burning wood willy nilly - your suggesting emissions from wood fires are comparable to fossil fuel burning, they aren't.
The air isn't made bad by the firewood smoke - it's made bad by industrial releases - the firewood smoke contributes, but is not the source of the problem. If all we burned was would there wouldn't be a problem.YOU wake up!
I will feel a lot better if pollution controls are required for firwood enthuisasts at home. Neighobrs should have the right to complain about excessive firewood smoke created by enthusiasts. There is still billions of diginant poor people burning firewood, cow dung, you name to cook food , keep warm.. There is still so much smoke , soot, paritculates floating around in the poorer countries.. There is a lot of untold stories . You did not hear it all.. So dont be so fast to think you know it al
In the United States or elsewhere? I fully agree with you that the world needs to stop people from cutting down rain forests, etc. to burn for cooking, etc. - but we need to provide those people with economic alternatives (like solar ovens, etc.).
I know all about what your talking about - I've traveled to some of those countries. You should stop being so fast to think you know all about ME.
I still don't get where this "firewood enthusiast" bit of yours is coming from - it's comical.
There is many people who are unnecessarily tolerating daily bombardsts of firewood smoke wafting into their houses from firewood enthusiasts around the clock. There is a world of difference between occassional firewood users and diehard daily firewood users.. Sure . some coal mines should be closed because of environmental threats. But the majority of coal mining is enviromentally sound with reclamation programs. Nobody is even talking about how to replace coal that supply 50% of US electricity.
Do some research and look up the totall tonnage of firewood burned in the US vs the total tonnage of coal burned in the US. Then add in the total tonnage of all other fossil fuels too. Then research the emissions from all those.
Firewood is nothing. Stop this inane argument.
Many people are working on how to replace coal-fired power plants. We can replace them all with wind and solar within the next 10 years if we so desire.
The pace we are working on is stlll at snail pace... At this rate, it will still take decades if not centuries to replace all coal fired plants. Everyone including you is squabbling and doing little... You are all talk... do little... You are counting on investors to the fooitng of the bill while you coast back and do talkings... This is not going to happen much as you would hope... Remember ... we have to replace one watt of coal with three watt of solar or wind generally speaking. Groan!
Your accusations are completely incorrect and ignorant .
I work for a non-profit to specifically stop the construction of new coal fired power plants. I help organize local communities opposed to the plants and fight them at both the legislative and regulatory level.
The rest of the staff in my office works in a similar way to me, only they work to incentivize and promote renewable energy and energy efficiency.
I expect an apology, and you're incorrect about the 3/1 ratio.
My analysis is certainly inaccurate to the penny but is easily well within the ballpark.. Dont waste your time cricitize my accuracy... I am giving you a rough picture of the sheer reality you are facing. Our economy just cannot stop standstill just in the name of environment or our government will start issuing IOUs to every lackey everywhere.. Get a life... Do what you can right now to minimize the imact on our climate changes... Firewood is a good start.. There is so much we can do ...
Again you cite "Firewood" as a way to minimize the impact on climate change. Firewood has ZERO impact on climate change.
Tell me to "Get a life" one more time and this conversation is over. I don't tolerate sh!t like that.
I've already addressed all your bogus "concerns" about transitioning to a green power system. You also seem to think that we are advocating for this to happen overnight. That is untrue. The time line for this is 10 years, and that is doable.
I never said that I want solar and wind stopped in its path ... NEVER.. I welcome green energy with open arms... I also happen to believe that firewood shoiuld be comparable to coal and should be banned in general.. Sure, we will always have speical Christmas yuletides. I dont think we should act like cavemen any more.. Firewood is a really dirty fuel and it is much closer to us than coal even with billions and billions worth of pollution control installments all over America.. Firewood, nada.
Just because you "believe" it should be comparable doesn't mean it is. Firewood doesn't have the same amounts or kinds of toxic substances coal has (they share some, but in all cases the amounts are far less in wood). And I've already commented on the CO2 bit...
Almost no one relies on firewood for primary heating anymore. Why are you so stuck on this pointless firewood rant? Forest fires account for far more wood burning than firewood in homes.
Note that when I say no one uses firewood for primary heating anymore I mean in the United States - I had assumed that's what you were talking about, but now I'm not sure.
Can you please be more specific about what you're talking about? I reiterate: please also provide cited information to back up your claims.
Firewood is used primarily in mountain ranges, ranches, farms and even in suburbs. I never said that firewood is toxic like coal, but firewood releases a lot of soot and particulates that ends up lodged deep in your lungs.. Firewood smoke is really bad , period! Nasty, too. Coal powered plants are outiftted with expensive pollution control systems to remove sulfur and fly ash. There is 600 coal plants already in existence in US not counting the rest of the world. Herculean task to replace!
How does any of what you are saying suggest that the problems associated with wood burning are in any way the same kind, or at the same scale, as coal plants?
Lets say everyone did focus on wood and solved the problem. It is a problem totally unrelated to what we are talking about here - global warming and the issue of how dirty coal fired power generation is.
Ok ok you go dismantle those 600 coal plants in ten years and come back . I will have another job for you.. to dismantle millions of chimneys and stove pipes... Oh , gosh! there is 200 more coal plants already on drawing boards so make it 800 coal plants.. WheW!
No, there were 150, and 100 of those have been stopped because of people like me. Try again.
I'll be glad to work on making wood burning cleaner when other issues are taken care of. It is still not a contributing factor to global warming or climate change - unless you include deforestation.
Wait untiil you have some kind of respiratory diffculties, you will hate firewood smoke and similiar smokes that you were used to before. There is many people with marginal health issues putting up with idiots burning firewood and stuff.. Pesticides, you name it.. There is so many terminal cases that doctors are "clueless" about causes.. Firewood smoke is one of the most obvious causes.. I am working hard trying to raise the awareness about "unimportant" pollution.
Why dont you go ask China and India to do the same thing about their coal powerplants? They are far worse than our American plants. They are planning hundreds of new coal plants. 100 or more new fossil wattage are planned against less than one new green watt all over the world in general. I thought that we would be on a crash course to reverse that, so far ... nothing.... You probably should also deal with private property owners to make allowances for new powerlines to connect the grid, too.
Recently, analysts are starting to chortle that solar movement will be coming entirely in small packages meaning rooftops only... This is not going to help the green energy movement much in a timely manner. it is much faster to do megawatt installments than rooftops. There will be involving a lot of trips for installers to get the job done as contrary to mega watt installations. If you want to have your own solar rooftop , fine with me. You are not going to rescue our Earth fast enough..
That's completely incorrect. The future of solar is largely going to be in distributed generation on rooftops, over parking lots, on sky scrapers, etc. Large "plant" systems are not needed, nor even the most efficient or effective method (and never have been).
Our economy is at a standstill not only because of financial disruptions. It is also because we decide to stop growing our economy to temporarily stop our growing impact on the climate. Meanwhile, people is still squabbling over who, what, where, how, why, when to go about the green energy movement as if time is a luxury.. China and India wastes no time going forward with new coal plants. We are foolishly waiting for the green light from our government stimulus or whatnots. Investors sat out.
You really are serious about the firewood eh? Did you grow up with asthma or something? Coal has way more toxins released than wood. Then there's other things out there like pesticides, PCB's, paints, resins, glues, insulating foam, houses burning, margarine, trans fatty acids, rubber dust from tires, asphalt, free silica...etc all much much worse than firewood. Maybe you just like to run your mouth to get a rise out of people, this would be the only thing that makes sense out of your posts.
You are not as concerned about firewood probably because you do not smell it everyday.. I do. This is the big difference. I am sure that I am not alone. Asthama or not, it makes no difference. I have a right to breath clean air. My neighobr is using firewood just to harass me . Again, I know I am not alone... I am speaking up for all who are tolerating daily bombardments of firewood smoke needlessly. There is hot spots everywhere where help is needed badly. Police doesnt seem to understand.
I am already aware of all assortments of toxins all around us. However, It struck me funny and strange that you among many others continue to be unmindufl about firewood smoke. It seems to me that you block out the firewood smoke mentlally, probably because you are distrustful of your local utility . You might feel the need to possess control over what to use for heating your house just in case your local utility jack up your bills. You dont realize that you are making others sick from smoke.
Fair enough I don't burn wood unless I'm camping or having a bon fire, and no the smoke doesn't bother me a bit. Can't really say I've ever met anyone who hated it, yet not saying there aren't people that it effects badly, I'm sure there are plenty.
Any particulate matter in haled into the lungs is bad for you. Some worse than others, some effect one person and not another.
@junkyardnut lol thats the reason you start a camp fire.....to keep the ones away....that don't like it. You might like an 800 lb Bear roaming around your camp site but I sure as shit dont.
@Dt0x75 Bears still roam around campfires with a nose for any loose food lying around. My point is that bears dont care for the smell of smoke as it interferes with its forage for food unless the odor is so strong . Smoke mean forest fires and bears had to make sure there is not any nearby... I smell like a bear and I hate smoke. I understand how bears feel..
@junkyardnut they will follow the scent of food true but you are also not suppose to be stupid enough to leave anything laying around. I live in black bear country if you leave food lying around when youre camping then what ever happens is your own damn fault. I for one have been camping in the mountains here since I was 11, and I have yet to even see a bear while camping. I know what youre saying though but the smoke doesnt "bother" them as much as it is a simple warning.
@junkyardnut lol speaking of food, and animals. Last summer we went camping and people whom I will not name, and nvr take with me again were throwing food that fell on the ground into the woods, and after about an hour of telling them not to do it they stopped. 3 Hours later after the fire died down guess what was roaming around the woods? We think a Bear, and later on a few Coyotes. Some people have to learn the hard way I guess...lol (Typo Repost ^_^)
I appauld the recent new regulations on diesel truck emissions. Diesel soot and paritculates is reduced in new models. I was so thrilled about that. I also believe that same should be applied to firewood as well. They are almost similiar despite comparisons of toxins... Soot and paritculates toxic or not is all the bad the same.. They are horrible !! Truck drivers dont breath diesel soot themsleves, same thing can be compared to daily firewood users who dont breath the smoke, but neighbors/??
But neighbors ought to wake up. Most neghbors dont use firewood on daily basis except on bone chlling days or during emergencies.. I would suggest a gas wall heater which is cleaner and function like a fire because of direct heat as opposite to ducted in heating tpically found everyhwere which is not as satisfiactory . I know that. I am considering instaling one but it costs $4000 to install a $200 wall heater. HVAC guys are crooks! Firewood got to go , basically speaking, sorry to say that.
oh yeah you are also right about those other pollutants. People have different sensitivities. people do burn batteries in the fireplaces. You can burn anything toxic in the wide open fireplace or woodstoves. Can you burn them in your electric furnace or gas furnace? I dont think so. This is the real danger!
it is true that firewood is cheap way of heating homes, but it will cost you in health care costs later on. Your neighbor will get sick and go to hospital because of you! Your insurance will go up! You lack comparative analysis ! What is the worst evil ? Firewood hands down! It is the worst of all! You can smell taste it.. Can you with those other you mentioin? They are not as frequent as your pricky neighbor who burns firwood everyday while you play outdoors.. C'mon! get real!
Air resource boards measure air quality at airports or top of skyscrpaers to determine if it is ok to burn today or not. They dont measure the air right over my roof to see if my neighbor should burn firewood today or not..
Look, 600 coal plants or 500 gigawatts/ hour of electricity capacity to replace with green energy. Are you sure you want to replace coal first then nuclear? Nuclear has 100-200 gigawatt/hour capacity in US alone. There is 440 nuclear plants in the world. Do you know how much manufacturing capacity we have in solar ? I dont think there is more than ten gigawatt/hour manufacturing capacity yet. Remember you have to mulitply by three to replace coal or nuclear. .. continued
If you multiply coal of 600 gigawatt/hour by three, you get 1800 gigawatt/hour or 1.8 terawatt/hour. We manufacture enough solar modules to replace at most about three coal powerplants a year at best. So at this pace, we will need 200 years to do the job not counting fufure economic growth minus energy conservation. In 200 years, we will quadruple our energy demand. Overall, your solar gang is not even keeping up with the future growth in electricity demand. You are way TOO SLOW!! HJRRY UP!
First, I don't manufacture solar, you seem to think I do. Second, you assume that the current rate of solar production will remain constant, which is completely unrealistic. You're whole argument is pointless.

GOD bless coal mines, oil refineries and all the other advancements that took us from a quasi feudal system where more than half of newborns died at birth to the modern Western world where we have seen man in outer space, heart transplants and marvels that a mere century ago t would be considered impossible. I like living in a modern age. You can go back to famines and week long carrriage rides if you want.
You should visit MD Anderson Cancer Hospital in Houston and see what our great greedy unsafe chemicals are doing to babies, children and adults. You will be amazed at the number of people there.
Technology can be done with safer methods but companies are not willing to put the equipment in because it will cost them their extra bonus/house/cars, trips, etc.
you should read some of the pentagons reports on biowarfare along with the writings of globalist scum like prince philip who says he wants to be reincarnated as a virus to kill people/everyones getting cancer because of the mercury in the vaccines the contaminations in our food and water/WE ARE UNDER ATTACK ,and its being done by the same bastards who push for this one world order agenda/RESTORE THE REPUBLIC /RON PAUL 2012
I'm an Independent who voted for Obama and I can't believe how all the Democrats are going for "Clean Coal." Tell Obama not in Illinois - not anywhere. We must go to the White House, not by petitions or e-mails, we must be there to get on the news. If it doesn't happen on TV, it doesn't happen, remember? Even Bush didn't want this plant. Are you environmentalists or just Democrats?
Wow this video was pretty crappy, i didn't like the fact that they focus more on the conspiracy with CNN rather than the facts. Although i don't support "clean coal" it still wasn't convincing enough.
There is a debate over clean coal because we do not burn crude oil. Power plants do run on refined oil products but not crude oil. We no longer refine coal in this country as we once did. If you want to leard how to produce clean coal read the Chemistry of Coal Utilization. This work explains the uses of coal and it is from 1945

warming debate aside theres still the issue of pollution . we're all in the snowglobe together and he shit doesnt disappear when it goes into the sky. the clean coal technology is called integrated gasification combined cycle btw. coal is turned into a gas and then burned somehow. the first three statements of this vid are ambiguous as hell. yeah it probably is lagging thanks to "drill baby drill' bullshit
This is a reply to why are ice caps melting then? Yes they are melting. We have gone through 6 ice ages. It's not you doing it. You can sleep nights. you can't kill the earth. Going green is a business. I'm all behind keeping things clean and green, Not false crises for business.
As for HARD coal It's cleaner that oil, wood & pellets for home heating . your electric comes from soft or bit coal, now that's different.Which one are you talking about?? If coal worries you unplug your tv & ref.
So we have to quit mining coal? What about iron and every other thing used to make anything that isn't biological? You can say we gotta quit mining coal because it makes a little mess. You need a better reason than that to quadruple the financial burden this country already had on it's shoulders. Honestly people. Quit using one liners. Of course clean coal doesn't exist. It's just a term that is used to represent a wide variety of clean coal technologies.
The energy alternatives will not be reliable enough to make up 51% of electricity production in the US anytime soon. We can't quit mining coal in this century. We just gotta change a few things about how it's done.
If everyone is so caring about the environment why don't they go to China and spend 1% of the money and get 500% of the work done? China has no standards at all.
It's hypocritical.
We would still need coal for all of the chemicals n shit. You couldn't use a computer without coal.
Well you heard about the Ash spill. What happens with that is. They have slurry when the mix the bottom ash with water after they burn the coal/lignite. They put that mixture into a huge slurry pond which goes down into the water table that goes into the creeks/rivers that get treated with chemicals that come out your water faucet. Now go get that nice big glass of water and then about that when you drink it.
if yyou watch the documentary of mining on the sundance channel it will open your eyes, its on feb 8th at 900est.trees have alot to do with global warming the forest have alot to do with the atmospere, and weather!
no one wants even to consider alternative like solar and wind power even things like methane caused by landfills are better than raping the land and destroying it !
First of all, coal is dangerous by mining and uses billions of gallons of deisel to mine and transport. Same with uranium. The life risk is unacceptable. Thencoal is treated. the hazardous product is stored to be burried only to contaminate our water table in the future. NOT clean coal.
You foolish people. There's NO global warming . we are NOT causing squat. Your being feed garbage from the wackos and the drive- by media. The New York crimes news paper after all.I have a bridge in NY. Cheap.Dumb ass
Okay idiot. If you want to make a point in a video, maybe you should show images of something that actually contributes to global warming. You are showing cooling towers, which release nothing but 100% water vapor. It is the same as the water vapor that fills your bathroom when you take a shower.
Do you like having electricity? Do you like reasonable prices for electricity? If you answered yes, maybe you should do some more research before trying to make a point.
The reason for global warming is CO2 from..... people! We breathe out CO2. The increasing population is the reason. Reduce the population and save the planet.
I worked at a lignite/soft coal plant for 5 years and got sick. It's the chemicals they put on the lignite/soft coal. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS CLEAN COAL. We are breathing in dead dino's and the chemicals that come along with it. We need clean alternative generating power not breathing dead dinos. I need to get off my but and say something because I worked in it and I know what it does.
I am against mining altogether. It is too dangerous and unneccessary. It is also an exploitation of labor by regional financial circumstances. The deisel that is used in mining and transport is enormous. Not to mention the danger. That is weight with an exception no other trucks can haul. People die every year because of this alone. Coal may be cheap but the price is high.
nice editing vid but it didnt explain why there is no such thing as clean coal?mabey in my opinion its other companies tryin to get people not to use other peoples product.
They didn't mention the yuppie suv's and cars that dump tons more pollutants in our country ever day or the millions of miles of asphalt roads that catch the suns heat increasing the earths temp.
IN ORDER TO CLEAN COAL, THEY HAVE TO TAKE THE ACID AND SHIT OUT OF IT BEFORE BURNING IT. WHERE THE HELL DO YOU THINK THEY PUT IT? THAT THE ARSENIC JUST DISAPPEARS? NO! THEY PUT IT (LIKE MUCH OTHER PARTS OF COAL) INTO A HUGE SLURRY DAM.
ONE DAM BROKE NOT TOO LONG AGO IN TENNESSEE, BUT IT MAY AS WELL BEEN IN YOUR SINK BECAUSE WE ALL DRINK FROM OUR RIVERS AND STREAMS.
Anthracite accounts for 1.25% of all coal mined. Let me heat my family with it and build 150 new nuclear plants to make up for the bituminous electric plants & you'll lower coal polution by over 98%. I refuse to give any more of my heating money to the Arabs.
Burnt organic material is still burnt organic material. "Clean coal" no matter how clean it is from toxins will still produce CO2, a gas that is one of the leading causes of climate change. And you keep mentioning that you'd rather not give any more money to Arabs. Coal has nothing to do with this. We are not buying energy (electricity) from Arabs. We are only buying gas from the Mid-East; until you state a way to replace gas usage with coal usage, your point lacks validity.
Until I converted to anthracite to heat my house I spent far more on fuel oil than gasoline. YOU burn more coal than I do. If your electric bill is $120, you just bought $60 worth of coal, and it's bituminous, not anthracite. I generate power with a wind turbine, so I'm using less bituminous but I'm no longer sending the Arabs $3,000 a year for heating oil. I now give an American $1,200 to do the same job.
Actually my city and surrounding metropolitan area are hydro-powered (water dam) which we are very fortunate to have. And I agree, economic self-sustainability in all aspects of the economy is a goal that we need to move towards steadily.
CO2 is not a leading green house gas, water vapor is the largest green house gas. And climate changes reguardless of human intervention and ice core records show that CO2 rose after temperature change. And he does make a valid point we do send billions a year to the Middle East and other countries. Also nuclear power is the most effective source of power and me should use it much more than we do.
"so y has cnn been saying this?" i bet u think its some liberal conspiracy to defeat ur way of life huh? u conservatives get wackier and wackier by the day.
I think that hydrocarbon fuel in general needs to go away. Nuclear, Solar, Hydro, and Wind power are the future. Coal mining is dangerous.
While the towers in the back may be cooling towers from a coal plant (YES THEY HAVE THEM TOO) the video makers still put clouds of steam in the background in a video about pollution. Maybe they're hoping people are too dumb to notice, or that we'll associate it with that stigma, nuclear power. Either way, it's wrong, and it shows a lack of knowledge.
People WTF is going on? CLEAN COAL IS NOT AN AIR QUALITY ISSUE,IT IS AN WATER QUALITY ISSUE! Have the ozone discussion all you want. The EPA has NO regulations on the ash dumped into "red pits" and the clean coal strageties only take more out of the smoke and concentrate it in a new form of ash. IT IS TOXIC AS ALL GET OUT! contains almost every toxic heavy metal including arsenic and lead. Entire communities have seen new "unknown" cancers. CLEAN COAL IS NOT POSSIBLE EITHER WAY. wake the f up!
Coal is safe as coal, add heat and it unleashes, Tar, Co2, Sulfer, Etc, these products have to go some where, and we are told they will be trapped in water and pumped under ground, whats clean about this. Co2 when in a cola bottle is safe but unscrew the top and its released, just as the gas and other poisons will find there way through any cracks underground,
I wish you would learn the difference between bituminous and anthracite. You are going to kill the anthracite industry. You ask what clean coal is...it is called anthracite. Thousands of us heat our homes with it. It is far, far cleaner than the bituminous that electric companies burn. I prefer to give my heating dollars to an American rather than an Arab.
I wonder if you keep that philosophy every time you fill up your Truck. Anthracite is "cleaner" but it still releases C02, and the mining of anthracite is just as harmful as bituminous. Coal has had it's time, but that time is at it twilight, accept it my friend or are you still holding on to your Flat- Earth Society Card.
Isn't the whole idea behind investing in *new* technologies... or researching potential *new* technologies... that they don't exist *just* yet?
This video doesn't even address the fact that clean coal technology is very *possible.* If research is lagging, then perhaps we should make it more profitable.
Is a lightbulb going off in anyone's head?
Oh, and the cute little "CNN's making 10 million off of this!" has nothing to do with whether or not clean coal technology actually works.
Clean coal is a myth. It's a marketing gimmick to sell a lower sulfur coal, or refers to scrubbers at coal plants. Either way, burning clean coal emits CO2 big time contributing to global warming.
Nuclear energy is emission free? Nope! Uranium processing for nuke plants, plus the standby power nuke plants needs = an additional coal plant, which is where this energy comes from not to mention nuclear energy is terribly expensive & dangerous.
i made an invention that i call the clean coal solution it does not allow any smoke or soot to leave power plants or smoke stacks it also recycles the smoke and soot back into reusable fuel check out some of my videos
Clean coal is a concept; it's a goal. It's like the automobile, the airplane, the internet. The fact that our technology is limited today doesn't take away from the concept of developing improved technologies to use coal as a power source while reducing byproducts. There are alot of things (including most technologies) that didn't exist, but now do.
Unfortunatly, the goal is unlikely to be reached if its development is railroaded by a bunch of missinformed, tree hugging hysteria mongers.
Clean coal dosent exist? dont worry, neither does man induced climate change(or is it global warming? - depends on nature of the current hysterical news item......)
Erushbass, just because some have gotton economic benefits from the production of, or the use of coal doesn't have ANYTHING to do with it's cleanliness, or lack thereof. Coal isn't the problem. Mining coal by clearing and blasting mountains is a problem, and burning coal causes tremendous environmental harm both locally (N02, SO2 & mercury) and globally (CO2). It should stay in the ground, and we should find other ways to get power - period, or keep the lights OFF.
What you call a "Goal" is being taught as existing Gospel by the twin-party Candidates.
Most Americans, who have neither the time, nor inclination to learn facts or even History, do not know that "Clean Coal" is not an existing technology.
McBama touts that we need to promote/ invest in "Clean Coal".
That equates to promoting another, filthy, polluting, limited resource that is owned and controlled by powerful corporate donors.
that was actually mckaine who said clean coal... anyway there is such thing as clean coal but its really expensive you brake down the gas and filter it but obama never said clean coal it was john mckaine we need solar and wind power :o
Who cares if its not clean? It better then oil. I dont care how much pollution comes out of clean coal. People shouldnt live near coal plants if they dont like it. Its better then driving a sissy hybrid and having those stupid solar panels on your roof.
I burn coal to heat my house for $800 @ 80 degree in the during the winter. Oil would run me $5,000 to keep my heat @ 70 degree. It's a no brainer, I'm sticking with coal. My energy dollars are staying here and not to some govt that hates us...

This is some weak evidence. The first guy appears to be a commentator, not an employee of CNN. The next guy, a reporter, says "People are split on the cleanliness of coal."
If you're making the point that CNN is biased in favor of clean coal, you need more than this!
If clean coal does exist, I sure hope Santa is leaving it in the stockings of big coal execs this Christmas.

One of the best ways to save the environment is to elect Officials that will focus on reducing immigration.
In America, nearly all the population growth in the last 40 years has been via immigration, over 100 million more and we are on track to go to 500 million in a few decades. The world does not need 300 million more American consumers and America does not need 300 million more immigrants. Go to Numbersusa for more info on immigration and to fax your senators for free.

i just cannot stand those irrational commentaries usually made by experts on TV or Internet.. we are still burning firewood, for heaven's sake!! spewing so much soot and particulates far more than the combined total of all coal powerplants.. Why?? All of our chimneys and stove pipes are not even regulated by EPA. They are just blowholes without any filters or scrubbers or whateve.. Just blow soot and particulates all over the neighborhoods and everyone start wondering why they have allergies..
junkyardnut 2 years ago
That is a total lie. Emissions from firewood burning are not more than coal plants. Even when you include wildfires it isn't more.
Stop spreading lies.

junkyardnut 2 years ago
Um, what? Are you mentally stable?
Where did I talk about "clean" firewood? Besides, there are not the same levels of toxins in wood as there are in coal. Stop talking about things you obviously know nothing about.
Pandonodrim 2 years ago
You will probably not think you will ever have to talk about clean firewood simply because people dont care... So why should we care about you and clean coal?? Get the drift... It is all about fairness... Also farmers and ranchers are burning crop waste and dead branches,... for what?? When you mulitpy it by thousands or millions of them.. This is serious stuff, man! Weathermen start using charts on TV show cautioning "no burn" or "clean firewood".. You dont seem to dig it, eh?
junkyardnut 2 years ago
Do you mean firewood that doesn't have paint or other treatments? Because there is an important difference. There is no such thing as "clean" coal, so I don't know what your talking about.
Why do you keep asking if I "dig it?" What is there to dig? You aren't making any relevant or even logical comments.
Pandonodrim 2 years ago
Are you ready to trust that everybody would not toss something toxic in the open fireplaces anywhere? You know how kids is... I am sure that you smell somehting really nasty from time to time and wonder what that idiot is burning in the house. Are you telling me that there is such thing like clean firewood? , I think not.. Pound for pound, coal is more strictly controlled than firewood. EPA doesnt cover individual polluters but just corporate polluters. Individual polluters are so scattered.
junkyardnut 2 years ago
California is boasting no coal plants but actually is importing 20% of electricity from Nevada and other states that burn coal. California is not aware of that. Coal is everywhere and you will have to turn off a lot of lights to get rid of coal. Firewood can be your source of lighting and clothes drying if you want. It is pure fantasy to call it no such clean coal.. The coal guys are working on it while yo are tossing tomatoes and eggs at them.. it is a thankless job.
junkyardnut 2 years ago
Farmers and ranchers dont have to burn anything just to clean up areas.. If it is not toxic , then it definitely is climate changing to burn unnecessary crop waste and dead brancehs . This is a good place to start as far as climate change is concerned. Firewood and charcoal is other good area to reduce.. Every bit helps.. We dont need to burn anything.. It would be wonderful if we are able to obtain even 50% of our electricity from green energy. We are not even there by a long shot..
junkyardnut 2 years ago
Also, the CO2 released from burning wood and plant material is part of the existing carbon cycle. The CO2 released by fossil fuel burning is carbon that has been sequestered and out of the carbon cycle for millions of years.
That is an extremely important distinction and the crux of AGW.
Pandonodrim 2 years ago
C02 is not toixc and it is only 10% of the greenhouse gases.. Water vapor is 50% of greenhouse gases. Why hasten release of C02 by burning? Why cannot you let wood decay naturally .. Funny, you never mention soot and particulates.. Plus chimneys is much closer to you than coal smokestacks.. I can go on and on... What about weather reports that start including firewood alerts.. They are already starting to declare no burn days when air gets bad.. Air do get bad with firewood smoke.. wake up
junkyardnut 2 years ago
CO2 is acidifying the oceans, it's not toxic but just because a substance isn't toxic doesn't mean there's no problems.
I never said I was okay with burning wood willy nilly - your suggesting emissions from wood fires are comparable to fossil fuel burning, they aren't.
The air isn't made bad by the firewood smoke - it's made bad by industrial releases - the firewood smoke contributes, but is not the source of the problem. If all we burned was would there wouldn't be a problem.YOU wake up!
Pandonodrim 2 years ago
I will feel a lot better if pollution controls are required for firwood enthuisasts at home. Neighobrs should have the right to complain about excessive firewood smoke created by enthusiasts. There is still billions of diginant poor people burning firewood, cow dung, you name to cook food , keep warm.. There is still so much smoke , soot, paritculates floating around in the poorer countries.. There is a lot of untold stories . You did not hear it all.. So dont be so fast to think you know it al
junkyardnut 2 years ago
In the United States or elsewhere? I fully agree with you that the world needs to stop people from cutting down rain forests, etc. to burn for cooking, etc. - but we need to provide those people with economic alternatives (like solar ovens, etc.).
I know all about what your talking about - I've traveled to some of those countries. You should stop being so fast to think you know all about ME.
I still don't get where this "firewood enthusiast" bit of yours is coming from - it's comical.
Pandonodrim 2 years ago
There is many people who are unnecessarily tolerating daily bombardsts of firewood smoke wafting into their houses from firewood enthusiasts around the clock. There is a world of difference between occassional firewood users and diehard daily firewood users.. Sure . some coal mines should be closed because of environmental threats. But the majority of coal mining is enviromentally sound with reclamation programs. Nobody is even talking about how to replace coal that supply 50% of US electricity.
junkyardnut 2 years ago
"Firewood enthusiasts?" God, you're a nut.
Pandonodrim 2 years ago
The pace we are working on is stlll at snail pace... At this rate, it will still take decades if not centuries to replace all coal fired plants. Everyone including you is squabbling and doing little... You are all talk... do little... You are counting on investors to the fooitng of the bill while you coast back and do talkings... This is not going to happen much as you would hope... Remember ... we have to replace one watt of coal with three watt of solar or wind generally speaking. Groan!
junkyardnut 2 years ago
Your accusations are completely incorrect and ignorant .
I work for a non-profit to specifically stop the construction of new coal fired power plants. I help organize local communities opposed to the plants and fight them at both the legislative and regulatory level.
The rest of the staff in my office works in a similar way to me, only they work to incentivize and promote renewable energy and energy efficiency.
I expect an apology, and you're incorrect about the 3/1 ratio.
Pandonodrim 2 years ago
My analysis is certainly inaccurate to the penny but is easily well within the ballpark.. Dont waste your time cricitize my accuracy... I am giving you a rough picture of the sheer reality you are facing. Our economy just cannot stop standstill just in the name of environment or our government will start issuing IOUs to every lackey everywhere.. Get a life... Do what you can right now to minimize the imact on our climate changes... Firewood is a good start.. There is so much we can do ...
junkyardnut 2 years ago
Again you cite "Firewood" as a way to minimize the impact on climate change. Firewood has ZERO impact on climate change.
Tell me to "Get a life" one more time and this conversation is over. I don't tolerate sh!t like that.
I've already addressed all your bogus "concerns" about transitioning to a green power system. You also seem to think that we are advocating for this to happen overnight. That is untrue. The time line for this is 10 years, and that is doable.
Pandonodrim 2 years ago
I never said that I want solar and wind stopped in its path ... NEVER.. I welcome green energy with open arms... I also happen to believe that firewood shoiuld be comparable to coal and should be banned in general.. Sure, we will always have speical Christmas yuletides. I dont think we should act like cavemen any more.. Firewood is a really dirty fuel and it is much closer to us than coal even with billions and billions worth of pollution control installments all over America.. Firewood, nada.
junkyardnut 2 years ago
Did I accuse you of saying that?
Just because you "believe" it should be comparable doesn't mean it is. Firewood doesn't have the same amounts or kinds of toxic substances coal has (they share some, but in all cases the amounts are far less in wood). And I've already commented on the CO2 bit...
Almost no one relies on firewood for primary heating anymore. Why are you so stuck on this pointless firewood rant? Forest fires account for far more wood burning than firewood in homes.
Pandonodrim 2 years ago
Note that when I say no one uses firewood for primary heating anymore I mean in the United States - I had assumed that's what you were talking about, but now I'm not sure.
Can you please be more specific about what you're talking about? I reiterate: please also provide cited information to back up your claims.
Pandonodrim 2 years ago
Firewood is used primarily in mountain ranges, ranches, farms and even in suburbs. I never said that firewood is toxic like coal, but firewood releases a lot of soot and particulates that ends up lodged deep in your lungs.. Firewood smoke is really bad , period! Nasty, too. Coal powered plants are outiftted with expensive pollution control systems to remove sulfur and fly ash. There is 600 coal plants already in existence in US not counting the rest of the world. Herculean task to replace!
junkyardnut 2 years ago
How does any of what you are saying suggest that the problems associated with wood burning are in any way the same kind, or at the same scale, as coal plants?
Lets say everyone did focus on wood and solved the problem. It is a problem totally unrelated to what we are talking about here - global warming and the issue of how dirty coal fired power generation is.
Pandonodrim 2 years ago
Ok ok you go dismantle those 600 coal plants in ten years and come back . I will have another job for you.. to dismantle millions of chimneys and stove pipes... Oh , gosh! there is 200 more coal plants already on drawing boards so make it 800 coal plants.. WheW!
junkyardnut 2 years ago
No, there were 150, and 100 of those have been stopped because of people like me. Try again.
I'll be glad to work on making wood burning cleaner when other issues are taken care of. It is still not a contributing factor to global warming or climate change - unless you include deforestation.
Pandonodrim 2 years ago
Wait untiil you have some kind of respiratory diffculties, you will hate firewood smoke and similiar smokes that you were used to before. There is many people with marginal health issues putting up with idiots burning firewood and stuff.. Pesticides, you name it.. There is so many terminal cases that doctors are "clueless" about causes.. Firewood smoke is one of the most obvious causes.. I am working hard trying to raise the awareness about "unimportant" pollution.
junkyardnut 2 years ago
That's great. Everything you mentioned is more prevalent from industrial coal facilities.
Pandonodrim 2 years ago
Why dont you go ask China and India to do the same thing about their coal powerplants? They are far worse than our American plants. They are planning hundreds of new coal plants. 100 or more new fossil wattage are planned against less than one new green watt all over the world in general. I thought that we would be on a crash course to reverse that, so far ... nothing.... You probably should also deal with private property owners to make allowances for new powerlines to connect the grid, too.
junkyardnut 2 years ago
Recently, analysts are starting to chortle that solar movement will be coming entirely in small packages meaning rooftops only... This is not going to help the green energy movement much in a timely manner. it is much faster to do megawatt installments than rooftops. There will be involving a lot of trips for installers to get the job done as contrary to mega watt installations. If you want to have your own solar rooftop , fine with me. You are not going to rescue our Earth fast enough..
junkyardnut 2 years ago
That's completely incorrect. The future of solar is largely going to be in distributed generation on rooftops, over parking lots, on sky scrapers, etc. Large "plant" systems are not needed, nor even the most efficient or effective method (and never have been).
Pandonodrim 2 years ago
China is implementing more renewable energy programs than we are.
We, also, are responsible for far more of the anthropogenic greenhouse gases currently in the atmosphere (we've been burning fossil fuels far longer).
We have to commit to change here before we can go to work convincing everyone else. Nothing else is feasible, much less reasonable or ethical.
Pandonodrim 2 years ago
Our economy is at a standstill not only because of financial disruptions. It is also because we decide to stop growing our economy to temporarily stop our growing impact on the climate. Meanwhile, people is still squabbling over who, what, where, how, why, when to go about the green energy movement as if time is a luxury.. China and India wastes no time going forward with new coal plants. We are foolishly waiting for the green light from our government stimulus or whatnots. Investors sat out.
junkyardnut 2 years ago
You really are serious about the firewood eh? Did you grow up with asthma or something? Coal has way more toxins released than wood. Then there's other things out there like pesticides, PCB's, paints, resins, glues, insulating foam, houses burning, margarine, trans fatty acids, rubber dust from tires, asphalt, free silica...etc all much much worse than firewood. Maybe you just like to run your mouth to get a rise out of people, this would be the only thing that makes sense out of your posts.
ogremeisterdom 2 years ago
You are not as concerned about firewood probably because you do not smell it everyday.. I do. This is the big difference. I am sure that I am not alone. Asthama or not, it makes no difference. I have a right to breath clean air. My neighobr is using firewood just to harass me . Again, I know I am not alone... I am speaking up for all who are tolerating daily bombardments of firewood smoke needlessly. There is hot spots everywhere where help is needed badly. Police doesnt seem to understand.
junkyardnut 2 years ago
I am already aware of all assortments of toxins all around us. However, It struck me funny and strange that you among many others continue to be unmindufl about firewood smoke. It seems to me that you block out the firewood smoke mentlally, probably because you are distrustful of your local utility . You might feel the need to possess control over what to use for heating your house just in case your local utility jack up your bills. You dont realize that you are making others sick from smoke.
junkyardnut 2 years ago
Fair enough I don't burn wood unless I'm camping or having a bon fire, and no the smoke doesn't bother me a bit. Can't really say I've ever met anyone who hated it, yet not saying there aren't people that it effects badly, I'm sure there are plenty.
Any particulate matter in haled into the lungs is bad for you. Some worse than others, some effect one person and not another.

@Dt0x75 Bears still roam around campfires with a nose for any loose food lying around. @junkyardnut they will follow the scent of food true but you are also not suppose to be stupid enough to leave anything laying around. I live in black bear country if you leave food lying around when youre camping then what ever happens is your own damn fault. Truck drivers dont breath diesel soot themsleves, same thing can be compared to daily firewood users who dont breath the smoke, but neighbors/??
junkyardnut 2 years ago
But neighbors ought to wake up. Most neghbors dont use firewood on daily basis except on bone chlling days or during emergencies.. I would suggest a gas wall heater which is cleaner and function like a fire because of direct heat as opposite to ducted in heating tpically found everyhwere which is not as satisfiactory . I know that. I am considering instaling one but it costs $4000 to install a $200 wall heater. HVAC guys are crooks! Firewood got to go , basically speaking, sorry to say that.
junkyardnut 2 years ago
oh yeah you are also right about those other pollutants. People have different sensitivities. people do burn batteries in the fireplaces. You can burn anything toxic in the wide open fireplace or woodstoves. Can you burn them in your electric furnace or gas furnace? I dont think so. This is the real danger!
junkyardnut 2 years ago
it is true that firewood is cheap way of heating homes, but it will cost you in health care costs later on. C'mon! get real!

Remember you have to mulitply by three to replace coal or nuclear. .. continued
junkyardnut 2 years ago
Again, your "multiply by 3" ratio is incorrect.
Pandonodrim 2 years ago
If you multiply coal of 600 gigawatt/hour by three, you get 1800 gigawatt/hour or 1.8 terawatt/hour. We manufacture enough solar modules to replace at most about three coal powerplants a year at best. So at this pace, we will need 200 years to do the job not counting fufure economic growth minus energy conservation. In 200 years, we will quadruple our energy demand. Overall, your solar gang is not even keeping up with the future growth in electricity demand. You are way TOO SLOW!! HJRRY UP!

It's just a term that is used to represent a wide variety of clean coal technologies.
guitarplyr2255 2 years ago
'A little mess'? Are you stupid? Energy alternatives will not only help the economy, it'll help reverse the damage our stupid mistakes have done.
RandomChat 2 years ago
The energy alternatives will not be reliable enough to make up 51% of electricity production in the US anytime soon. We can't quit mining coal in this century. We just gotta change a few things about how it's done.
If everyone is so caring about the environment why don't they go to China and spend 1% of the money and get 500% of the work done? China has no standards at all.
It's hypocritical.
We would still need coal for all of the chemicals n shit. You couldn't use a computer without coal.
guitarplyr2255 2 years ago
Well you heard about the Ash spill. What happens with that is. They have slurry when the mix the bottom ash with water after they burn the coal/lignite. They put that mixture into a huge slurry pond which goes down into the water table that goes into the creeks/rivers that get treated with chemicals that come out your water faucet. Now go get that nice big glass of water and then about that when you drink it.

First of all, coal is dangerous by mining and uses billions of gallons of deisel to mine and transport. Same with uranium. The life risk is unacceptable. Thencoal is treated. the hazardous product is stored to be burried only to contaminate our water table in the future. NOT clean coal.

I need to get off my but and say something because I worked in it and I know what it does.
gymmom51 3 years ago
I am against mining altogether. It is too dangerous and unneccessary. It is also an exploitation of labor by regional financial circumstances. The deisel that is used in mining and transport is enormous. Not to mention the danger. That is weight with an exception no other trucks can haul. People die every year because of this alone. Coal may be cheap but the price is high.

internetaccount122 3 years ago
Anthracite accounts for 1.25% of all coal mined. Let me heat my family with it and build 150 new nuclear plants to make up for the bituminous electric plants & you'll lower coal polution by over 98%. I refuse to give any more of my heating money to the Arabs.
Frxdy 3 years ago 2
Burnt organic material is still burnt organic material. "Clean coal" no matter how clean it is from toxins will still produce CO2, a gas that is one of the leading causes of climate change. And you keep mentioning that you'd rather not give any more money to Arabs. Coal has nothing to do with this. We are not buying energy (electricity) from Arabs. We are only buying gas from the Mid-East; until you state a way to replace gas usage with coal usage, your point lacks validity.
sinan32121 3 years ago
Until I converted to anthracite to heat my house I spent far more on fuel oil than gasoline. YOU burn more coal than I do. If your electric bill is $120, you just bought $60 worth of coal, and it's bituminous, not anthracite. I generate power with a wind turbine, so I'm using less bituminous but I'm no longer sending the Arabs $3,000 a year for heating oil. I now give an American $1,200 to do the same job.
Frxdy 3 years ago
Actually my city and surrounding metropolitan area are hydro-powered (water dam) which we are very fortunate to have. And I agree, economic self-sustainability in all aspects of the economy is a goal that we need to move towards steadily.
sinan32121 3 years ago
Stop obsessing about the Arabs. You're sounding ridiculous.
internetaccount122 3 years ago
CO2 is not a leading green house gas, water vapor is the largest green house gas. And climate changes reguardless of human intervention and ice core records show that CO2 rose after temperature change. And he does make a valid point we do send billions a year to the Middle East and other countries. Also nuclear power is the most effective source of power and me should use it much more than we do.

CLEAN COAL IS NOT POSSIBLE EITHER WAY. wake the f up!
rcacad 3 years ago
Coal is safe as coal, add heat and it unleashes, Tar, Co2, Sulfer, Etc, these products have to go some where, and we are told they will be trapped in water and pumped under ground, whats clean about this. Co2 when in a cola bottle is safe but unscrew the top and its released, just as the gas and other poisons will find there way through any cracks underground,
Just my thoughts.
Colin.
col1n1234 3 years ago
I wish you would learn the difference between bituminous and anthracite. You are going to kill the anthracite industry. You ask what clean coal is...it is called anthracite. Thousands of us heat our homes with it. It is far, far cleaner than the bituminous that electric companies burn. I prefer to give my heating dollars to an American rather than an Arab.
Frxdy 3 years ago
You do realize, that coal, is still coal right?? compressed organic material?? hardly any differences.
Swansen03 3 years ago

Jingleman0 3 years ago
Can you substantiate your claim that "clean" coal is possible?
By more "profitable" do you mean that government should throw money at it?
The $10 million does make a difference, however, on how it gets portrayed... wouldn't you agree?
And even if we can scrub coal "clean" economically, burning it will always let off carbon, a greenhouse gas.
Oh, BTW, do you recognize this word....."PHYSICS"...?

Clean coal is a myth. It's a marketing gimmick to sell a lower sulfur coal, or refers to scrubbers at coal plants. Either way, burning clean coal emits CO2 big time contributing to global warming.
Nuclear energy is emission free? Nope! Uranium processing for nuke plants, plus the standby power nuke plants needs = an additional coal plant, which is where this energy comes from not to mention nuclear energy is terribly expensive & dangerous.

JJCarbon 3 years ago
Unfortunatly, the goal is unlikely to be reached if its development is railroaded by a bunch of missinformed, tree hugging hysteria mongers.

erushbass 3 years ago
Erushbass, just because some have gotton economic benefits from the production of, or the use of coal doesn't have ANYTHING to do with it's cleanliness, or lack thereof. Coal isn't the problem. Mining coal by clearing and blasting mountains is a problem, and burning coal causes tremendous environmental harm both locally (N02, SO2 & mercury) and globally (CO2). It should stay in the ground, and we should find other ways to get power - period, or keep the lights OFF.
Hithard177 3 years ago
What you call a "Goal" is being taught as existing Gospel by the twin-party Candidates.
Most Americans, who have neither the time, nor inclination to learn facts or even History, do not know that "Clean Coal" is not an existing technology.
McBama touts that we need to promote/ invest in "Clean Coal".
That equates to promoting another, filthy, polluting, limited resource that is owned and controlled by powerful corporate donors.
