HI CAN U CHARGE THE 2 BATTERIES AT ONCE????THE OTHER QUESTION IS THE SOUND IN THE CAR STOPPED WORKING LIGHTS OK ANY IDEAS SHOULD I CHANGE THE FUSE?????
@FERSAV1974 You might want to ask at the website (modifiedpowerwheels ), but yes I can charge the batteries with a 12V charger if I want. Usually the sound on a powerwheels is a separate device with a small battery (AA I think). Go to the website and ask there about your specific model.
I am going to do this to my sons 6V Lightning McQueen, but I would like to had a high & low switch. Will a "off" & "on" switch work if I connect both batteries like in video & run switch through the positive wire on the second battery? That way when, turned "on"
@tonylozzi Sure you can do this with a relay. I would look on the website (forum.modifiedpowerwheels) for "turbo switch" and you can just change that to not be a temporary switch and call it "high"
@italianxTc I aspire to add crappy speakers to my '88 tercel like you, but alas I grew up. No I didn't. Thanks for the comment though!
When the zombipocolypse comes you can attract them with your speakers pounding and picking your nose videos (really he uploaded videos of both) and I will kill them with "terminating two wires on a battery."
Thanks for u quick responce well i will do what u say and not convert it to 24 volt because i do not want to shorten it live so u say it will be ok to convert it to 18 volt or that can ruin it too Thank you .
Thank you man for ur reply but i have a 12 volt jeep the big one that sell for 700 us $ can i change that to 24 volt i see some one did so will it burn the moto thank you.
@naambacchus You can, but it will shorten the life of your vehicle. Remember I speak from experience. I have owned 30 or so powerwheels and please visit the website for more opinions of course. Anyway this was a 6V vehicle, so one motor on 24V is certainly not going to be good, but a 12V to 24V will last a short while. It will be really fun, but short lived in my experience. 18V is plenty of fun. Perhaps a 24V turbo button. Check out the website forums for more information.
@9Tracer9T No. The motors on a 6V powerwheels are actually the same as on a 12V, but there is only one. No series or anything on 12V, each motor gets 12V. So you are ok. The main failure with a 24V setup (this is only 12 mind you) is the speed ruins the gears. They melt.
@naambacchus Well the Grauchos can be modified a bit more. Ask at the website. I haven't had any of those. You should see the speaks in my tercel though! @italianxTc hooked me up!
@RICKYGVB You know better than to suggest these batteries. Do not use anything but SLA (Sealed Lead Acid) Any car battery or open top will leak or spill when tipped. Not safe for kids IMO.
i see ppl with Lightning Mcqueen on 24 volts is that hard to do or it the same way you showed it for the jeep i got a Lightning Mcqueen and i want it to go faster
I wanted to get my son the 12V Power Wheel Jeep, but my In-Laws beat me to it,
as it has taken me some time as money is tight. Anyway, my In-Laws got him the 6V Lighting McQueen! The worst part about it is that the little punk neighbor kid has a Hummer and passes my son pretty good. Every time I take my son riding, this kid comes out harassing him and slamming into him and making fun. My son is always asking me why his car does not go fast? Anyway I can put little more pep? 12V battery maybe? ty
@tonylozzi yes. You can usually just add another 6V in series or a single 12V battery to get it up to speed. a 6V car only has 1 motor (normally) and probably cannot handle 18V. Never go 24V.
@naambacchus Not usually. The 6V and 12V cars use the same motors and gearboxes usually. The main difference is 6V cars only have 1 motor and gearbox. So you can go to 12V pretty safely, but never 24V and probably not 18V either. Anything above what was sent with the car will shorten its life.
Now all you need to do is cut the side walls out of 12in bike tires, slide them over the tires glue them down. It will give you better traction. I prefered to use a motorcycle battery in all three of my kids power wheels.
@snugglebunny26 i recently put a 12 volt lawnmower battery in my daughters barbie 4 wheeler...will the rubber on the trire..more traction cause gears to strip? just wonderin..thans
I did basically the same thing on my sons Mustang GT but using a walmart lawn and garden 12v ($20) vs the powerwheels battery ($60) and use my Die Hard charger like once a month instead of every 8-10 hrs We ride through the local cruise nite
@koblags Yes. AH is how long they will last. So if you mix a 5AH with a 10AH the 10Ah will last 2X longer. The 5AH will be run below empty and this can cause problems. I do not have a problem with different Voltages, but AH should remain the same.
@jasncab I see, and conversion means you are only allowed One step forward...means twice the voltage of your current voltage...right? beyond that would burn your motor? is this correct?
Hey, I'm just getting into this stuff with my son.....I understand changing a 6v to 12v won't damage the single motor...correct? Can I replace a single 6v to (2) 12v batteries to make it 24? And if I do, would I need to change the motor? Thanks for the info, my boy's gonna love this!
Im 26 years old and when i was 5 i had a power wheel jeep, it looked just like that one but it was tan with camo, and my dad did something simular (involving a car battery) to make mine go faster, its amazing how long ago that was now
in the shifter there is 2 switchs and if you dont have hi low the shifter does not hit the 2nd switch so if you take it out of the shifter box then you can have hi low with the 12 volt to make it even faster :D
and you can get better motors i got 2 14.9 volt motors from the hobby shop and then i run 24 volts just put a 12 volt regulator in to drop the 24 volt down to 12 volt that way you get the longer life
nope. not with 12V. 12V is ok and lasts a long time with one motor. The gears and motor on a 6V powerwheels are the same as those on a 12V powerwheels. Now put a 12 year old in a small 6V powerwheels and something will break - that is why larger PW have 12V. anything more than 12V and you are correct the motor or gears will break down. I had the powerwheels shown for some time and passed it on to my nephew when my daughter was too old. I believe it is still going. If anything the batteries died.
um no. You need to google parallel versus series and use firefox (it has a spell checker). When you add a battery like this you get 12V. If you use the other method you get 6V and more AH (run time). 12V gives you more speed, more AH gives you more time. My setup does allow for either.
@pyroman675 Yes, You are right. If you hook a 6V and a 6V in parallel you still have 6V but you will get double the amp hours (run time). If you hook them in series you get 12V with less than 1/2 the run time as parallel
Because: 1. I already had a 6V charger, 2. I have about 30 other videos showing that easy mod :) and 3. adding a battery allows me to make it slower for the younger kids. - why did you have to be so rude?
Weird is Sweden in another universe? What is really a shame is that Pirate Bay no longer exists in Sweden :( oh wait - it just came back up. down again.. Back!
I am assuming that the power wheels that you converted here is a super 6? And you still had to get a second connector for it to work.? I like the quick disconnects but still is there a way to get it to work without using a second connector? Just seems like going with just one 12v would be a better situation.. Especially assuring a good charge for each battery..
See my comment above. one 12V would serve that purpose I suppose, but I posted 3 good reasons for THIS video above. I have plenty of other videos with other configurations, this is just one way to do it.
preety cool! I adapted a marine 12v battery to my son's 12v and it would run for days without charging. Can a 12volt powerwheels be adapted to 24v without frying the motors?
