thanks for the info. Removing the bumper seemed less of a headache to me than when I tried to do that back when the bulb went out. Also if one bulb goes out people, it might be a good time to replace both as a pair!
USE A MEDIUM SIZE SOCKET 7MM TO UNSCREW THE SCREWS HOLDING THE BACK PLATE. I HEAD TO UNSCREW WITH MY FINGERS AND NO SOCKET WRENCH, JUST TWIST THE SOCKET WITH YOUR FINGERS.
YOU DON'T NEED TO REMOVE THE BUMPER TO REPLACE THE PASSENGER SIDE LOW BEAM!!!! MOVE THE FUSEBOX AND YOU CAN ACCESS THE BACK PLATE COVERING THE BULBS. YOU CAN ONLY REMOVE THREE OF THE SCREWS HOLDING THE BACK PLATE, BUT YOU CAN TWIST THE BACK PLATE ENOUGH TO ACCESS THE LOW BEAM BULB.
I'm just curious.. are the HID bulbs and standard Hallogen bulbs different? I have a 2008 CTS4 with I believe an HID system and today a low-beam went out on the passenger side. I went and picked up some Sylvania Silverstar Ultra's from the auto-parts store, but now I'm beginning to believe that I need a different kind of bulb to work with the stock HID system. These Sylvania's are H11 fitment, but I believe they are Hallogen and not HID. Any help would be appreciated guys! e-mail/comment here.
@ryanoconnor98 those bulbs will definitely look different. My advice is to go to the dealer with the last 8 of your vin and tell them in the service dept. you want a copy of the build sheet. That info should be on there.
If you are changing the driver side bulb the bumper DOES NOT NEED TO BE REMOVED. Remove the air filter, we did remove the wheel and the shroud in the wheel well, I was able to remove three of the screws, on the forth one I drilled a 3.8 hole to line up with the fourth screw, then removed it using an extension inserted through the hole, the dust cover and replace the bulb. Pu-ting things back together is a snap..ltmeuer@tx.rr.com
Don't get me wrong great video..just can't believe I have to go through all this just to change a light bulb. I was wondering what I was doing wrong..
@00walk....I have an 2007 STS. If I order the HID lights...do I just need the bulbs or the entire kit including the ballast? What did yours require???
@00walk Thanks man. I was able to change the light in my 2006 STS in about two hours time thanks to this video. It'll be even quicker next time I do it because I know what I'm doing now. This video was HUGE help - especially when I saw that I didn't have to FULLY remove the bumber cover.
@00walk not at all blue at first, cuz my old cts 3.6 were stock ,then after like 4or 5 min they turned white again,,im about to buy the 2006 v8 sts like in a week.
@mr010tommy010 they were bright white no blue, very short life though, like six months. I got syllvania xtra vision now, still hyper white, I love them
Important question... I don't need to replace anything I just need to align the headlight flash beam higher than what is currently aiming... do I need to pull out the bumper?
If I'm not mistaken you should be able to do that under the hood with out removing everything, I'm not 100% sure but if you don't see a way to adjust by pulling out rubber plug on the back our side of lamp, I don't recall it say I know @eneoeneo
@eneoeneo if you pause the video at 3:43 you will see a gold looking rod on the left side of headlight on screen. That is how you adjust the headlight! you should be able to access that with no problem at all.
It cost me $150 to change one headlamp bulb on my '06 STS...... so, to change a headlamp myself, I need to remove the tire, front tire well, and the bumper? That's one of the craziest things I've ever heard. Thanks for the video! I think I need to purchase some new tools.
@JJ9715 If i remember correctly I was told a number between 300-350. Its all based on the model of the car for maintenance. Buick got a nice line up that has a lot of options so it varies. Consumer reviews has a lot of of the maintenance price info.
@jmemixx This is a way for gm to try to get more work in their shop. I wish I could help you. Try to look for similarities with yours and mine. Maybe you just need to move the airbox or whatever is in the front to replace?
Hey mixx...I'm tryin to do the same thing. My parking lights are always burning out, and I'm tryn to figure out how to change them myself instead of taking it to the dealer everytime they burn out. 00walk: I turned my front wheel so that I can see inside, but I don't know which one is hooked up to the parking light....help? thanks
@misslady104 , You should be able to get to the park light from under the hood. In my 2008 sts all I Have to do is remove the air box on the driver side and remove the fuse box on the passenger side just enough to gain access to the small panel on the side of the headlight housing. Hope this helps. You'll need a short screw driver.
@00walk I was able to replace the parking light. I just turned the wheel and stuck my hand up inside, and I was able to replace it. Now, I'm just trying to figure out how to replace the headlight bulbs. My mechanic said it's gonna be around $300 to replace both lights...is there an easier way?

I think GM designer guys were high on some shit when they designed this! If you think of replacing anything like this might as well go all out, but aftermarket fog lights, HID bulbs and do it all at once. Also if one bulb goes out replace both...you do not want to do this shit all the time!!!
I cant confirm nor deny the similarities of the two. call the dealer and ask how much it cost to replace the headlamps and if they give you an outrageous price you can guarantee its the same procedure. They will tell you if bumper removal is necessary.

How much would this cost if you went to the dealership? Would a Cadillac be a lot more than a Buick as far as maintenance/repairs?
