  • Just blistering brilliance. Patti is assured a place in the Bard's House in Valhalla.

  • The name is "Horses", too. The best album of the world.

  • What album can i find this song on ??

  • If Patti Smith didn't exist she would have had to be invented. Most of punk was trying to be her and rock today owes her an immeasurable debt. Nobody has had her concentration of creative energy before or since she emerged. Jon Landau thought the future of rock was Bruce Springsteen at about that time. He hadn't realized it was Patti Smith.

  • Oh Patti! You can be with me after the show!

  • and I dream of Life, we're just kids

  • i can't even find the words to describe patti smith. she's just beautiful, energetic, powerful, strong and effortlessly cool.

  • man that voice just cuts right through the bullshit. so watchable on stage

  • I went totally mad when I first heard this... I just discovered punk rock and immediately thought : "this is just insane poetry on raging rock'n'roll", and got conquered for life...

  • @kuttersprodukt ... sums it up EXACTLY for me...

  • Hahaha! Joyce Grenfell at the end is priceless!

  • She has proper sex appeal, not like the manufactured shit you get these days. These singers were sexy without even trying. I fucking love Patti Smith x x x

  • @jcotter1888 amen brother,

  • Drives me nuts, I was there, people call it HORSES and not LAND and do not know about Joey Land, trust fund baby, her friend, died of stupid heroin recreational use in the '90s, leaving so many in the lurch, the crudbag. Patti was quite nice to know, have no bones to pick with HER, just hate all this wrong stuff. I mean, could you get the title correct for, um, posterity?

  • PJ Harvey and Patti Smith remind me a lot of one another. They are both very intense and wrapped up in their ideas. Both are much lower key off-stage than on. I'm sure Patti had to be some kind of inspiration for Polly Jean.

  • such a tiny voice, then when she's onstage...POWER!

  • Patti Smith is the greatest ever female artist bar none.

  • i want a girlfriend like patti smith...

    hehehe

  • Thank you Youtube, haven`t heard this for years.

    Man, I`m old...:-(

    Must search the damned CDs

  • I love the two very conservative-looking English people at the end admiring her!

  • That's the kind of music I wanna make.

  • She has such a nice girllike voice when she speaks...and a punkgoddess one in singing...I love her so much, she was my youth...she is eternal...

  • She's magic! Love ya Patti...

  • me too

  • i thought she was dead

  • @vic19861986 she is eternal

  • she is lady punk deluxe!

but also her lyrics are like dylan..borroughs and

the unvorgetten mr. chuck henry aka bukowski..

    i love you..patti :o)

  • @koboldfranz Spot on!

  • great

  • you know alot of people sing songs and its all bullshit this thing about rock and roll changing things especially during the 60s what a bunch of crap those people turned out to be

  • She blows my mind.

  • the godmother of punk

  • the name of the song is "land"

  • love it!

  • i love this song but i laughed so hard when johnny rotten said: patti smith...horses, horses HORSE SHIT! HAHAHA

  • @47rockgirl johnny goes a hatin'

  • She is my muse in dreams, in my own poetry, in my pictures existing or not. She is a climax to me, is so amazing, wise, hard, honest, clear... I adore her, her voice, music, lyrics, poetry, prose. I'm searching in my city any of her books, i wish find at least one.

  • @dismaldoll I think you would enjoy listening to an interview of her by Charlie Rose on Bloomberg Radio today (September 1).

  • nEAT

  • toni ramoni poni cannolli ? Poor Fred..

  • Such a good song!

  • Dancinboy, fucking grow up & enjoy the music !

  • richard hell fronted the voidoids and your saying that he wasn't punk? you seem to have the misconception that punk is strictly hardcore; fast, aggressive, and angry. would you also say that the Ramones are not punk? if so than you are the fool. and if you agree that they are punk than your still the fool because the Ramones and Patti Smith went hand in hand as the originators of the New York punk scene at CBGB.

  • i don't know what kind of "chill" you're talking about dude its the most amazing performance I ever saw in my life the music got a soul and a personality not a label or a mix the live performances defines what kinda artist you're listening to not the mixed out blown up bullshit studio versions

    never buy records

  • I love her rambles, ruwlllz!

  • Patti Rox!

  • I like that piece of jewelry she's wearing, looks like a guitar.

  • that's a joke, right?

  • If you¨re a male, and choose other than female. you must take the responbility of holding the key to freedom

  • ...what?

  • @ whathuhwhere: it's just a line in the song.

  • Me encantá esta canción!! rolasaaaaaa

  • she is pj harvey's mom... literally

  • tell me the vocals from 3:45 till 3:57 dont send chill through you. Just awesome! Absolutely brilliant performance here. Go rimbaud!

  • All hail the QUEEN!

  • whio are the proper Brits at the end?

  • Pure genius

  • yep

  • No it Rules!!!!

  • Hell Yeah!

  • its not punk you fuckin imbecile i hate it when idiotic toolbags refer to any music related to the punk scene as punk its not

mc5 was alternative new york dolls too garage bands, glam rock you name it but its not punk DOA, the exploited, GBH, black flag thats punk at its finest there isn't any comparison i don't know wtf are you talking about

  • "punk" is just the general term, i guess. it's about as wide open as "rock" or "jazz" or whatever.

    genres are stupid anyway.

  • punk is not an umbrella term if thats what you're saying I mean I would call this rock n roll .. anything but punk, theres complexity in the music and don't mention the 3 chord thing even hard rock music got that.

if they're seperating people I think it would be a-ok to seperate music

  • Check the era, influences, sub-cultural attraction, consumption styles, and intent. She's more on the artsy side of punk, but punk nonetheless. Punk isn't strictly "hardcore".

  • punk is not all hardcore yes I know, specially today's punk its just blink18200s weak style of playing and a useless rant U2 style for lyrics even the drumming pattern is pathetic, but patti smith is NOT and never will be punk, its a distinguished style I would call it at least psychadelic specially this song, maybe rock n roll but its completely off the punk genre got that? its not fuckin' punk she was in the punk scene with CBGBs and the voidoids plus her extreme lyrics but that was just it

  • there are several sub genres of punk such as Oi, garage punk, hardcore, etc. Bands like GBH and Black Flag are hardcore punk. But most will agree that Patti Smith along with Richard Hell and the Ramones were the originators of the punk scene. She isn't called the Godmother of Punk for no reason.

  • She is not punk, her music is revolutionary yes but that only inspired a lot of punk artists richard hell only spiked his hair and got in dopehead bands she is called the grandmother of punk because she influenced a lot of punk artists by her lyrical style and her ability to just control the audience by her music but if you say patti smith is a punk artist you would be a complete fool.

  • You're a tool. Read Legs McNeil's book "Please Kill Me". He's the man who applied the term "Punk" to the music going on at Max's and CBGBs and guess what bands are the emphasis of the book? "Patti Smith Group" "The Ramones" and "Richard Hell and the Voidoids"

  • are you retarded?

  • you know if you say something to other people enough times that makes it true? ohh- you seem to already think that.

  • your point exactly is

    wait a minute

    nobody cares

  • dude, i thought punk was just music played by a few kids that was more rebellious then most music... right?

  • no its not about being all "rebellious" its a common misconception, I don't blame you for not establishing any kind of music, shit the world is full of idiots. It was the purest form of music expresses more directively frustration, politics, other lifes bullshit etc etc. Its more powerfull and stripped out and .. well you have to listen to it and feel it.

yes it is raped by know-maybe when it became a "genre/cult" too. todays punk is shit

  • "and the name of the band is fuck you" that's so fucking hot... up there with the version on i never talked to bob dylan where she says " and the name of the band is, aw shit, holy shit" and then it erupts

  • when does she say this?

  • 3:33 she says "fuck you"

but the other one "aw shit, holy shit" is on a bootleg

  • patti smith is one of the very few singers i like to see/hear live (along with tori amos)

  • Teehee, those two at the end... "What's that she's saying? 'Johnny's laying there in his sperm coffin'? Oh how marvelous!" ;)

Patti Smith is incredible and sexy. Iluv'er.

  • She is AMAZING!

  • she sounds so young here!

  • I am old ish I remember this so well My girlfriend thought she was intellectually blessed Patti beat her senseless with her power!
