  • Fantastic to see your boat from the sky. The ocean looks even bigger from up there. I'm going to try and do a kite cam of my boat now.

  • This is so great that we have to give it our finest recommendations for the exquisite footage and the ingenious camera technique. If you ever wondered, what it would be like to be named Jonathan Livingston Seagull, this could give you an idea ;-)

I think it's usually called "Wing and Wing"

    Totally awesome video.

  • I've watched this video numerous times and it remains one of my favorites. So simple and beautiful. Captures the feeling of a man sailing his boat as content as can be.

    Thank you for making it!

  • @cstall13 "Love the poled-out twin heads!"- Is that what he's doing there? Twin Genoas, and 2 spinnaker type poles, with mounts on the mast? Is there a name for that technique/rigging? Would he need a topping lift for each pole?

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!! Amazing, and great boat handling! Love the poled-out twin heads! Whenever I'm feeling down I watch this - makes me smile! Sailing is THE BEST!!!!!!!!!

wer scheut sich nicht vor der artlantica-passage ins land der weltentdecker und pioniere?

  • innovative. =)

    The Modern Aquatic Voyager

  • i want this boat but i wan a wheel to steer with lol. darn

  • NICE NICE NICE!!! No need for helicopter and pro videographer. Can see you're a pro single handed sailor with a self steering vane, and very important safety harness ;) Good Job!!! Thanks for sharing.

  • Almost need a Dramamine. This is on my to do list before I die. Thanks for a beautiful video.

  • Well, so many comments that pretty much say it all but how about this: I saw this video and was so inspired that I bought a nice little Kent Ranger 24' sailboat and have learned (am learning) to sail and having the time of my life. Truly inspiring. Captures the essence of my dream in just a few minutes. Yes, like the others I will have to try this too. Thanks, many thanks!!

  • This is so cool. Beautiful at 2:50. how does it work?

  • Just gotta do that!!!

  • Nice, really nice. Don't know quite what it is about this vid - something of the essence about what it is to sail I guess but the camera work, music and the gorgeous, understated little boat brings it all together somehow. I can't explain...

  • great, ,GREAT !..

  • are you a "sola"? i think yes. the kite is on the table.. the cam on the wire can't work.. because the picture can't be so stable.

    this is only a cheat.

  • @alessandrogm ahuahuahu sei un grande "are you a SOLA"

  • please direct me to any osts on how to rig use a kite cam.

    Rob

  • Hi.

    Perfect video.

  • hey shit head you stole my idea..see you in hell...jesus christ.

  • Great idea, have to try this :o)

  • Dana 24 looks like a sweetheart.

  • Beautiful video, what is the Name of the song ??

  • This is completely inspiring.

Like many others who have seen your video, I would like to be able do the same thing when I am sailing. (East - West across the Atlantic this November)

Coull you post "a how to do it" video?

    showing equipment and rig etc?

or post a google doc .

    Many thanks in anticipation

    Nick

  • Wicked cool !!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 Love it!

  • jajaja muy bien

  • That's retardedly awesome! The snackiest thing I've seen in a while on 'utube

    WIND POWER!!!

  • And what if wind suddenly dies? :PP

  • nice little boat , what make is she

  • I want to do this with a wide lens attached... I bet it would be a spectacular shot. Make it look like you can see the edge of the world.

Great video five stars because I can't rate any higher.

  • I like it. This would sure work well for some of the videos I make.

  • Really inspirational. I wanna do that with my boat now.

  • Excellent Video. I Love Pacific Seacraft Vessels.

What type of headsail are you using towards the end of the video?

    Who manufactures them?

It must make downwind runs a "breeze" :)

  • great idea!!!! I have an Oregon scientific camera wich will be great 4 this ¿How do you mount it on the Kite? How big should the kite need to be? Can you show a video or pic of the kite plus the cam?

  • Fantastic idea. I will have to try this. Almost as good as having a helicopter buzzing about taking shots. I'd love to see the rig he used (what kite/cam)

  • how did you do to record this with your cam?

  • Yeah this is Great! Awesome idea and post. Thx!

  • really nice

  • Fantastic, beautiful video! Would love to see pictures/video of the kitecam and how you control it.

  • Man, you have really piqued my interest. What did you use for line to control the kite? It disappears in the video. Is the line visible on the higher quality original video source?

  • I bet another very popular video would be a series of instructional videos on the construction and use of a kite camera. Amazing videos and a great looking boat!

  • beautiful video

  • Just Beautifull!

  • I needed that....thx:)

  • i found this video so wonderful, i cant wait to finish college and bought my own ship

  • i just started university, and bought myself a 25 foot sailboat.. needs a little work o nthe interior, but i got it for a great price, and im going to the bahamas for 4 months after second semester.

no need to shell out lots of money on a new boat.. a well aged one, with a bit of tlc, can be everything you need, and youll get it that much sooner.

    good luck!

  • Sweet! This is what it's all about! Powerboaters, you too can learn, just find a ragbagger, we will gladly take you to the freeside. Sailing is like learning to ride a bike Its not that hard come join us!

    Sail on !

  • Thank-you for posting this. I watch every time I'm stuck in the office, the wind is piping, and I want to sail but can not. There is no better medicine than a birds eye view of a classic boat on a reach "sailing away"

    Well done and thank-you again.

  • greetings from alameda

  • Awesome!! I love sailing. Great job on the sail trim. For a small boat it seems to balance really good.

  • This one still rocks!!! :)

  • Sweeeeeet!! Nicely done!

  • No doubt about it, this is still my favorite video

  • very nice

  • very good vids chumann1

    congrats

  • wow:D

  • orinaco flow by enya i found it!

  • whats the name and album of this song!

  • Now I realized how you did it: Rent a helicopter and hold a bloody worthless rope in the air ;-))))))))

  • FANTASTIC!!!!! I just hope that did not only show the essence of 384 trials and countless wasted cameras in the water. Man, this is great, maybe you could share with us how you did it. Keep on sailing!!!!

  • wow ! the Kite idea is fantastic !

  • Wow! Cool camera work! :) (not to mention my favorite Enya and sailing song.)

  • Wow.

This is by far, the MOST outrageous sailing video I have ever seen! I have a cam at the top of our Vagabond 42. But this blows it away. Would love to know how you do it.

    Cheers!

  • Mothafuckin ENYA in the haaaaaaauuus

  • Fantastic. How did you rig that up?

  • Great kite work , Great yacht, well done.

  • You are a great sailor indeed!

Please, open your website and sell camera equipped kites. I'll buy one!

  • Wow, that's some very impressive multitasking. Great footage too.

  • That is absolutely brilliant. I am a single handed sailor and like to do a few videos, never would have thought of this. Do you do anything to protect the camera in case of mishap?

  • I would really like to know what type of kite and cam. that you used does anyone know?

  • Great video, the first few times I saw it I was wow, this wee boat gets along real well, but now I notice that it is running on its diesel inboard, but hey looks neat anyway.

  • Fantastic idea! I see you installed a tiller pilot, makes it a bit easier! Your yacht seems very well kitted out, esp. for a 24 footer, nice!

  • well done very clever.

  • good idea with a cam. Cons!

good sailing as well. flying an assymetric and playing around with a kite. Singlehanded.?!!

    No easy task.

You are a good sailor mate!! :)

  • Beautiful! Thank you!

  • Wow! I have no idea how to sail, and I can barely fly a kite, But watching this made me feel like a bird at sea, flying along with your boat.

  • I've lost count of the number of times I've viewed this video. Awesome!

Have you shared your design of the kite cam? I'd be very interested in attempting this with my boat.

  • Very Nice!!! MY PASSION SAILING

I WISH I WAS A SAILBOAT AND JUST SAIL AWAY

  • nice vids !

  • I love this video and your little sailboats setup... Man, that's amazing radar and all. I have a Sovering 23 and this video makes me feel like I don't need anithing else to get out there.

  • Way Cool Mate!

  • Outstanding video and such a clever concept.

This explains what draws us raghangers to the water better than anything I can think of.

  • your really on to something there, good luck and happy sailling

  • Icredible video...I'm planning on heading out next Oct for 3-5years...Could you please tell me what kind of setup you have on the kite...Did you buy it? Make it...I MUST have one!!! Please?

  • I am a new-bee sailor, what is the forsail you are flying when you are running ? Thanks Cape Dory on the Bay

  • Thanks for the note. The headsails are twin 150% genoas sewn together on a single luff. They're made from 1.5oz spinnaker cloth. They're great for long distance down wind sailing like in the trades but a bit of a bear to set up for short runs on the bay. They really move the boat along and are more forgiving than a spinnaker.!

  • Very good fantastic video.

    Regards from Canary islands

  • Thanks a LOT dude. :-{ My wannabe sailor-hubby found this video and now he's even got ME wanting to try this activity because of this video. Beautifully done video...perfect music! No wonder you sailing-types like this stuff. Dang...now I suppose we'll really be buying a little sailboat after all. :-{ :-}

  • brother, this vid got me through some gloomy ass days in the office.

    Sailed through it though >:)

  • i thought you nearly lost it at the end, nice sails too, new sailor here, thanks for the vid' rock on.

  • Bravo!

  • Now that is just jammy....lol How did you shoot it and where can I buy Kitecam?

  • Your a pimp, running a spinnaker and a kite cam single handed.

  • A great value for money idea that gets the job done and solves a problem I faced while taking footage of my sailing adventures. Any chance of getting more details on how you set it up and with what equipment?

  • that...is amazing! impressive the kitecam worked so well. very clever, and cool.

  • Brilliant. I've watched this several times and still enjoy. Great choice of music - Fits perfect.

  • Also, sure that she would round up nicely, loved that you didn't have to - good sailing & loved the wing wing.

  • The dana 24 is my goal. Have a 20 ft Seaward fox which acts much the same - wide beam, stable as all - and a beautiful shiplet. If you ever need a hand single handing, let me know.

  • Brilliant idea mate - how is the kite so steady?

  • Great videogood edit..I now know what my next boat has to be..a Dana 24.

Fantastic Yacht for some serious Blue Water Cruising.

  • THRILLING!!!

  • most wonder thing I'v ever seen...

  • may ur waters be calm.

  • Simply Fantastic

  • Amazing! Very simple and good idea!

  • very cool!!

  • impressive,this is my dream.sailing away forever

  • awesome, I don't know how you did this video but it was great! :-)

  • Great video, looks like a real solid boat, do you have auto pilot?

  • Great Videos, Can you share your set up. Thank you in advance,

  • Too bad you can't get a Dana 24 in Europe. Most small GRP boats here are flimsy, light displacement rubbish.

  • Absolutely wonderful, great job and very nice ! Good sailling and i hope to see more a next time ! SUPER !!!

  • wonderful video! Thanks for sharing

  • Wow i have to try that on my laser... very cool

  • very nice - thanks for the video

  • Please tell me how to make one, or where to buy one. Thanks!

  • Great work,I will give it a try on my islander 30.

  • on a cold Iowa day this is a real treat, way to do it...

  • Hi there, great video, I always fly a kite

during the Gulf stream passage. I never thought of a camera on it !!

After seeing your video , I definetely want to try that!

Also I ve discover your sailboat the Dana 24 from Pacific Seacraft, great sailboat man keep it up ! I want to buy a Dana 24 too and go to sail around the world, very inspiring !

  • That gives me warm and fuzzys.

  • That is freaking SWEET!

  • magical

  • Is that a para-foil kite your using?

  • you, sir, are an inspiration!!

  • This is so cool!!!!!

    I must have one!

  • sweet!

  • Some of the very best arial photos of a sailboat. Wonderful work. Would love to know how you did it.....so I can do the same on a June trip to Bermuda on a lovely Freedom 33. On my knees here.

  • Great vid but one question, how did you keep the camera facing the boat when it was 100-150ft up in the air?

  • The camera needs to look down the string. It's a very stable direction. If possible use a dark string.
