This is so great that we have to give it our finest recommendations for the exquisite footage and the ingenious camera technique. If you ever wondered, what it would be like to be named Jonathan Livingston Seagull, this could give you an idea ;-)
I've watched this video numerous times and it remains one of my favorites. So simple and beautiful. Captures the feeling of a man sailing his boat as content as can be.
@cstall13 "Love the poled-out twin heads!"- Is that what he's doing there? Twin Genoas, and 2 spinnaker type poles, with mounts on the mast? Is there a name for that technique/rigging? Would he need a topping lift for each pole?
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!! Amazing, and great boat handling! Love the poled-out twin heads! Whenever I'm feeling down I watch this - makes me smile! Sailing is THE BEST!!!!!!!!!

OutSTANDING... I'm in awe. I'm (hopefully!) not too far off from living my dream and moving onto a 33' boat. I have got to get a set up like this! What a great idea, and what cool footage. Thanks for sharing!
NICE NICE NICE!!! No need for helicopter and pro videographer. Can see you're a pro single handed sailor with a self steering vane, and very important safety harness ;) Good Job!!! Thanks for sharing.
Well, so many comments that pretty much say it all but how about this: I saw this video and was so inspired that I bought a nice little Kent Ranger 24' sailboat and have learned (am learning) to sail and having the time of my life. Truly inspiring. Captures the essence of my dream in just a few minutes. Yes, like the others I will have to try this too. Thanks, many thanks!!
Nice, really nice. Don't know quite what it is about this vid - something of the essence about what it is to sail I guess but the camera work, music and the gorgeous, understated little boat brings it all together somehow. I can't explain...
Like many others who have seen your video, I would like to be able do the same thing when I am sailing. (East - West across the Atlantic this November)
great idea!!!! I have an Oregon scientific camera wich will be great 4 this ¿How do you mount it on the Kite? How big should the kite need to be? Can you show a video or pic of the kite plus the cam?
Fantastic idea. I will have to try this. Almost as good as having a helicopter buzzing about taking shots. I'd love to see the rig he used (what kite/cam)
Man, you have really piqued my interest. What did you use for line to control the kite? It disappears in the video. Is the line visible on the higher quality original video source?
I bet another very popular video would be a series of instructional videos on the construction and use of a kite camera. Amazing videos and a great looking boat!
i just started university, and bought myself a 25 foot sailboat.. needs a little work o nthe interior, but i got it for a great price, and im going to the bahamas for 4 months after second semester.
no need to shell out lots of money on a new boat.. a well aged one, with a bit of tlc, can be everything you need, and youll get it that much sooner.
Sweet! This is what it's all about! Powerboaters, you too can learn, just find a ragbagger, we will gladly take you to the freeside. Sailing is like learning to ride a bike Its not that hard come join us!
Thank-you for posting this. I watch every time I'm stuck in the office, the wind is piping, and I want to sail but can not. There is no better medicine than a birds eye view of a classic boat on a reach "sailing away"
FANTASTIC!!!!! I just hope that did not only show the essence of 384 trials and countless wasted cameras in the water. Man, this is great, maybe you could share with us how you did it. Keep on sailing!!!!
This is by far, the MOST outrageous sailing video I have ever seen! I have a cam at the top of our Vagabond 42. But this blows it away. Would love to know how you do it.
That is absolutely brilliant. I am a single handed sailor and like to do a few videos, never would have thought of this. Do you do anything to protect the camera in case of mishap?
Great video, the first few times I saw it I was wow, this wee boat gets along real well, but now I notice that it is running on its diesel inboard, but hey looks neat anyway.
I love this video and your little sailboats setup... Man, that's amazing radar and all. I have a Sovering 23 and this video makes me feel like I don't need anithing else to get out there.
Icredible video...I'm planning on heading out next Oct for 3-5years...Could you please tell me what kind of setup you have on the kite...Did you buy it? Make it...I MUST have one!!! Please?
Thanks for the note. The headsails are twin 150% genoas sewn together on a single luff. They're made from 1.5oz spinnaker cloth. They're great for long distance down wind sailing like in the trades but a bit of a bear to set up for short runs on the bay. They really move the boat along and are more forgiving than a spinnaker.!
Thanks a LOT dude. :-{ My wannabe sailor-hubby found this video and now he's even got ME wanting to try this activity because of this video. Beautifully done video...perfect music!
