She has a quite beautiful voice. I believe she was part of a group of back-up singers who provided the beautiful harmony on some of Sinatra's earlier recordings. (1940-50)
WOW - Just heard this version for the 1st time - man, does she nail it! Truly one of the greats - right there with with Peggy, Ella, Frank and all the other "1st namers" -
@iamalwaysawoman She recorded No Other Love with George Greeley on the piano on album titled "No Other Love", Capitol 1053 released on May 5, 1950. She recorded it again in 1963 on album titled "The Hits Of Jo Stafford" Capitol ST 1921 released in January of 1964, . I have the 1950 version in my mp3 library.
One of the greatest singers I have ever listened to. One of my very favorite singers. She couldn't help it, she was born with talent, musicality, and an exquisite taste.
Jo was one of the very best female vocalists and a special favorite of mine. I'm going to put a version of this on You Tube soon and it's daunting to follow this great lady's singing of it.
I used to love this song of Norah Jones'. Now I realise it never was hers. A bit late to realise that. But I just love this you can feel the soul, the passion, the soothingness.
@maidenofrohan -- What do you mean by "hers"? That Jones wasn't the first to record it? Neither was Stafford. That Jones didn't write it? Neither did Stafford. I love this version, and Stafford's singing, but the song belongs to whoever sings it.
@OldDunc Well, hers meant Jones, and obviously I realise that Jones wasn't the first to record it. And yes, I know there are older versions than Stafford's, I was just speaking in general, how I was mistaken the song was written by Jones. And agreed.
We loved her then, in the 1950'es - here she is for all new, young listeners! And I no longer need to cry over having thrown away such beautiful records!
This truly was a wonderful singer. Her control, restraint and sheer good taste graced so many recordings. Frank SInatra rated her extremely highly - and, if it was good enough for Francis Albert...This is sheer artistry, with peerless diction, beauty of tone and quite astonishing phrasing. Simply gorgeous. Thank you.
Songs of Scotland was the album that my Mom loved. In the late 50's we had the pleasure & instruction of listening to many great singers. (Yma Sumac). There are few modern singers that have this quality of voice! Oh that I had better ears to appreciate her fully!
Jo Stafford was such an incredible talent. Truly a unique voice & singing style. How sad she is no longer with us. But she left COUNTLESS wonderful recordings. This is certainly an exqusite version of one the most beautifully romantic ballads ever written. THANK YOU for sharing this delightful gem with us! :)
My first time hearing Ms. Stafford.Too bad I waited so long. Her singing voice is on a par with the heavy hitters. Her voice is so clear and soothing to listen to.Discovering someone this good for the first time is just wonderful.

Can you imagine "Lady Gaga" going up against Jo? One has class, talent and a magical voice. The other? Well, shock value I guess?

One of the great romantic love songs of all time. Marty Robbins also did a fine recording of this classic in the early 60's.

This wonderful song deserves a singer like Jo to
carry its timeless grace in the service of love. There
is no sound like that today; I even wonder if the
gentle concept of 'love' has changed in the art of music.

The reality of the matter is that we may never hear the likes of this genre again.
Songs of this ilk cut right to the chase while touching our basic emotions.

Unquestionably one of the top 3 singers of her era.
On a par with the Divine Sassy One and Ella--and that is as good as it gets.
Jo and Hoagy, impeccable combination.
