  • There are many women composers that were very famous and some performed in the most prestigious courts but society always focuses more on men composers (Mozart, Haydn, Bach family, etc.)

  • This is such a moving interpretation of this piece...it shows the power of understatement in the hands of a great artist. Thanks for posting.

  • lovely :)

  • awsome... I think Jaqueline was one of the best cello players in this world. I'd like to play this...

  • oh, this is lovely.

  • The composer is Maria Theresia von Paradis (1759-1824). She was Austrian and a friend of Mozart. It is believed that Mozart probably wrote his piano concerto (No. 18) for her. As a very young child (around age 3) she lost her eyesight. A doctor was able to improve her eyesight but only temporarily. She toured Europe and London, performing brilliantly. She also taught and then composed. -- Some play this melody quickly and destroy its beauty. This is how it is meant to be played.

  • God Bless You Jacqueline..I Like You.

  • The editor is SCHOTT (London). Arranged by Samuel Dushkin. S & Co. 3164.

    Jean Cassignol

  • This piece sounds so simple, yet so beautiful. Very unique melody

  • Very Nice...it's great, whoever wrote it.

  • Yes, I believe whoever composed it wanted the listeners to enjoy the music. They probably didn't want musicologists fighting about who composed it...

  • @silvr94 Oh what a beautiful piece, it was written by Maria Theresia von Paradis, its a hauntingly beautiful melody. <3

  • ok i know that it's a cello as two people have said to me i was simply saying that it also sounds great on the violin

  • good for you :-)

there are too many male composers - well, famous ones...

  • @silvr94 If they are good, It doesn't matter if they are men or women. But it would be nice if there were more female composers.

  • i have to play this 4 cello grade 6, i probably will end up not doin it tho, i dont even know how i got this far cus i'm crap at it, this is a chooon tho

  • Hey man, I have to play this for the same grade, keep at it, it's an awesome peice ;)

  • @crazybuslive If you have reached grade six then you have done well. The cello is not a simple instrument to learn but the sound produced is very special. This is a most beautiful piece. If it touches your heart then make it yours. Don't worry about the grades. Just learn pieces of music that you love the sound of and you will naturally progress without you realising it. Don't become stale. Best wishes Andy.

  • This is a beautiful song to play on violin, there is so much about it that when you play it just brings out this emotion in you that i can't explain. She's great! This sounds really good when it's the piano and violin together!

  • pity it's not a violin...

    it's a cello....

  • that previous comment was in reference to all the people commenting on the beautiful non-existent violin in this piece...

i have to play this piece atm, and oh god i feel awful playing it coz she was able to play it soooooooooooooo much better!

  • It 's not on the violin it's on the cello!!!!!

  • this piece is so beautiful!! I play the violin and I so want to play this piece....

  • fabulous!

  • for violin

  • what instrument was this piece originally written for?

  • I believe it was originally written for violin and piano. Some say the piece was written by Samuel Dushkin, others say it was Paradis and Dushkin only discovered the work. But usually Paradis gets the credit for this piece.

  • I love playing this on my cornet; though I must admit, the cello shines a different though equally radiant light on it.

  • no words...the most beautiful piece i`ve heard for a very long time!!!

  • perfection of the cello
