@JiaTV i'm almost 30 and yanking BET UNCUT was the first and yanking RAP CITY was the last straw for me. Even at 3am, a lot of underground bootleg looking and sounding artists got exposure! It was not about the girls or glorified street life, it was about seeing new artists trying to make it. You have to tell people to look at your music video on youtube, but BET uncut, you had no other choice but to sit back and watch what comes on next.

Every now and again, BET will have a special series on problems in our communities and things we should be concerned with, but i doesn't happen often. MTV and VH1 aren't the same anymore, they suck too.

I'm 22 going on 23, and even I understand what you're saying Miss Jia. Then again, I was raised on old school and the last generation thoughts so I understand the difference. I used to like BET back when the music had meaning, when the shows were somewhat uplifting. Even though I've never been a major fan of Rap, I used to love when Tupac came on, hell at least some of his music had strong meaning in our community. You know what one of the most annoying things about BET is, Whenever I flip the damn remote to the channel theres a little description on the bottom of my screen saying that there's supposed to be a movie playing. But to my surprise I find a montage of rap/music videos playing instead. How they gon have music videos playing instead of a movie LIKE WHAT THERES SUPPOSE TO BE, A MOVIE, NOT A BUNCH OF RANDOM ASS MUSIC VIDEOS. @lillyj I stopped watching BET (really before this date) officially November 2004 when BET banned a creative, abstract, and unique video by a group called Little Brother. Banning that video (Lovin' It) basically told me that Bet is really not about talent and innovation... Every now and again, BET will have a special series on problems in our communities and things we should be concerned with, but i doesn't happen often. MTV and VH1 aren't the same anymore, they suck too.

I used to like BET back when the music had meaning, when the shows were somewhat uplifting. Even though I've never been a major fan of Rap, I used to love when Tupac came on, hell at least some of his music had strong meaning in our community. Now, BET and pretty much everything it stands for is absolute bull____.

You know what one of the most annoying things about BET is, Whenever I flip the damn remote to the channel theres a little description on the bottom of my screen saying that there's supposed to be a movie playing. But to my surprise I find a montage of rap/music videos playing instead. How they gon have music videos playing instead of a movie LIKE WHAT THERES SUPPOSE TO BE, A MOVIE, NOT A BUNCH OF RANDOM ASS MUSIC VIDEOS. Banning that video (Lovin' It) basically told me that Bet is really not about talent and innovation... and about madonna you gotta realize that she was probably the only person who understood mj theres alot of simularities between the 2 icons so it would be very disappointing if her speech didnt pan out like it did. in pop music i think madonnas influence on the world is second to mj just a bit. but i dont think mtv was worthy of madonnas speech or janets performance. the whole show was outta controll i got my baby sister watchin who is a fan of mj see lady gaga do suicide on national television

idk jia i agree with you on alot but this time. mtv did a terrible job. i think bet did the best they could at that time and yeah i do think they should do another more worthy for mj. the only thing mtv did for mj was madonnas speech and janets performance... and on top of that it was merely scheduled as a opening...?... that pissed me off. though i dont like bet as a whole i thought thiers was better the ending was heartbreaking foreal. mtv was a circus

Everytime i turn to Bet i see something thats making black ppl look bad. Especailly at night its always negative nothing postive. And ur so right the bet awards was so bad. And i wish they would take of 106 already

This whole video is REAL TALK. and I'm 21 years old and completely agree with everything you said. I stopped watching BET almost 2 years ago. You dont really need to be of age to know that BET is crap, you just need to have some common sense, just a lil bit. I'm mad late on this video, but I just came across your channel, but I still had to leave a comment.

If it were not for cable companies bundling BET with other channels, and allowed BET(as well as other unwatched channelsT would be off the air for good.
No one would pay for BET, cus it is garbage.
No one supports BET, unless they are the typical kool-aid sippers.

BET has done nothing but perpetuate every single bad stereotype about black people. There is not one program that educates, uplifts and promote black success. All young people have to look at is stupid shows, soft-porn video about bling, cars and chicken noodle soap, and retarded movies like soul plane (serious...if I see soul plane come up one more time...). Lord knows I rather watch black and white silent films then one min of BET...at least that why im not ashamed and horrified...

Well, to be fair, they do have that movie making thing. You know the young directors show? Yeah, I think thats the only thing they got going on. And I hate the fact they say they'll bring one show then bring music videos in heavy rotation. I really would cancel the channel if I could..

i'm 20 years old and i know exactly what you're talking about. BET does suck. I don't wanna see a 10 hour marathon of The Game, then 2 hours of 106, then some wack ass movie.
I remember Video Soul & Teen Summit. Hits from the Street, Cita's World all that. BET is just ass now.
That's why I watch TVOne & I can't wait for that new channel Ecentric to come out. That seems like it's gonna be a good channel to watch. Maybe because Bob Johnson is behind it.

even when those two were there BET was in such bad presentation. 106 is still there, and nothing has changed. The hidden politic behind the shows on BET are the points we are trying to show. This channel emphasized too much on stereotype and make us think its ok to be as such. MONIQUE is a freakin hypocrite (there i said it) ;D

BET is just stupid and drained of education. TOO many damn videos. BET should bring back some classic black t.v. shows like Wayans Bros. Good Times, What's Happening, the Sparks bros. Martin, etc. And also have more news segments involving politics, faith, sports, and education. Help young people get more informed about the world around them instead of dumbass videos, etc.

I'm 21yrs old & I know BET still suck. I remember all the good shows..plus I don't like BET because... they took off "Midnight Love". Plus they show the same movies over & over. BET is just a mess. And that dang on preacher that screams all the time needs to go ASAP. Plus BET t.v. make it seem like Black people don't have any sense. But as long as people watch the shows their going to continue to produce BS.

My friend and I talk all the time about how BET used to be off the chain back in the day with Video Soul/Planet Groove/The List/Teen Summit/TAVIS SMILEY (HELLO!). I didn't realize it myself, but I really stopped watching BET years ago. There just ain't shit on it worth watching that I can be proud about. (The Corner? Really?)

Even though Madonna's speech was long, I found it extremely poignant and endearing. Remember how she had the ENTRIE audience hanging on her every word? I imagine it's because she was genuine in her expressions...which is a rarity when people get on t.v. claiming to have had love for Mike now-a-days...
But yeah, I feel you. Her delivery alone shat on every attempt of the BET tribute, which is got damn shame. Gone head and preach girl.
