I know man. That guy is like some kinda G Thug or some shit with his big watch and ring on his finger. Yet it's still a great quick start for any jerk wanting basic synth knowledge.
@maccagrabme hey, its nick.. really, the only thing that this can do that vsts cant, is keep u entertained when your computer is on the fritz. but lots of vsts have their own virtual patch mods so you can send envelopes and lfos wherever you want, but i first learned programming on this one so i know it better than any vst. also, the ms2k control surface has lots of nobs, so its good for controlling your software as well. i have a friend who uses his ms2000 to control ableton live. works good...
It can "do" communication with your hands. The whole point is that in a live situation you have a knob / slider for every control. If you produce music at a pc you can do many of the same things but not in the same way
Wish Korg still made the MS2000 - Now I have to cop one off ebay if one turns up. The Radias looked quite cool too, but this one has a certain charm to it.
@kipptumor agreed about the charm. ive owned a few and each time i bought it from ebay. just picked one up a few weeks ago, again. every time i get rid of this synth, i miss it and buy another. ms2k <3
@kipptumor picked mine up for $299 + $20 shipping. You just gotta wait and watch. People try to sell them for 4 - 500 or more all the time. And if you have the money and no patience, thats not such a bad thing. But there are reasonable people out there that either list them as an auction (which almost always end under $400) or will put a buy it now with a best offer option. I got mine on a best offer. Original list price was $399.
@kipptumor also wanted to say that the last time i had bought one (about a year and a half ago) i scored that one at about the $300 mark too. i don't think id spend more than that since i know with a little patience it is possible. both of my last 2 ms2000s were the BR model.
Love the sounds out of that machine. You can tell that Nick's musical genius gerbils are spinning the wheel in overdrive when he has his Vanilla Ice face on and his watch and hat worn G-style for that added urban flava!
nice, i really want one now but i think i'm still going to save up for a nord lead.. i've come to the conclusion that two oscillators are really all you need
yea i've got a micron now which i liked better than the microkorg.. the only way i think it's inferior is the microns LP filter is kinda low res compared to the microkorg, other than that you've still got modulation, vocoding, plus phrase transposing & sequencing
@d0gg0d actually its the MS2000BR. Apparently Korg fixed up some midi timing issues in ... the appregiator or something. Also comes with different default patches. One of my favorite MS2K patches come from the original though. A14, DWGS WaveSeq. Enemy DJ (or just Enemy) from Evol Intent fame used that patch in an old tune of his and it sounded sooooo mean. Wish I could find that old track. It had crazy drums. Anyway ain't trying to nitpick your post. Just throwing in some clarification

That was actually one of the first good explanations of how synths can work. You actually know what you're doing!

Is this kind of like the predecessor to the Radias?
d3p3ch3mod3 3 years ago
actually, its the big brother to the microkorg. the microkorg has the same sound engine, so its capable of all the same sounds.
but it lacks the sequencer.

the microkorg has 2 oscillators too. if you know how to program it, its deffinately worth the 400.
nord leads are awesome if you want to spend that much.
