  • Que hermoso tema..me hace volver cuando miraba entusiasmado superman..

  • I love this but the pitch is a little slow.

  • I like this Superhero movie theme better than Mr.Elfman's"Batman"movie theme tune. Thanks for creating "Supeman's"song..Mr.Williams.

  • A GREAT GENIUS!!! I LOVE HIM!

  • John Williams composed some of the top film themes over the past 30yrs. Superman we have here, Indiana Jones,Jaws,ET and Star Wars. This man is a genius!!!

  • goosebumps.....

  • John Williams captured the essence of Superman in a theme in the same way Danny Elfman captured the essence of Batman in his theme. Iconic.

  • BONER!

  • master john williams the big composer waaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.. he could captured all of essence of the best superhero ahhhhhhhh superman gigger yeahhhhhhhh.... I love them ahhhhhh greatest!

  • This is the best Superhero theme there will ever be. Long live Superman. We Love You

  • This theme is truly epic and meant to be played very loud, it makes you pop your chest out and try to fly!!

  • Good music. Bad video. Get a tripod.

  • adoro muito essa música

  • SUPERGOOD!

    choyrecords/stopaidsnow/

  • AMAZING!

  • this should get more views

  • How sick is this...Williams is a fucking G, what a ledge, he prob doesn't even know how much of a legend he is

  • They better use this in the new Superman Man of Steel movie

  • @USA553 They had better, or else I'll get my money back after viewing the film for like...2 or 3 minutes! Amazingly, Superman Returns stayed true to the theme song which is why I still have the dvd. Kudos to the director of the 2006 film!

  • @GenghisKhantGrill To be honest you would have to be a pretty stupid director to not use it in the Superman film. Considering all the other movies did.

  • @USA553 They better give you thumbs for your suggestion/command.

  • quiet possibly the greatest score ever made

  • lex lutor andou pagando para internautas votarem contra o video ate agora conseguio 9

  • SUPERMAN RULEZ!!!!!!! NUFF SAID

  • A masterpiece of Orchestral composition...nuff said

  • omg .......fuck yeaaaaaaaaaaaaah

  • People spend half of their time on Youtube getting in stupid arguments.

  • I've loved hearing the tune in the Smallville last episode, yay! I'm a freak, so what? xD

  • Sound a lot like Legend of Zelda, compose by John Williams.

  • @KevinVang1000 You mean the Intro of Zelda by John Williams was maybe inspired by the Superman theme he made back in 1978

  • But still, it's not original. I want it something NEW and unheard of, unno...

  • @KevinVang1000 Most Orchestra themes sound alike.... You can't change the Superman theme though, this is considered one of the most recognized themes in the world and it's already 33 years old :D

  • I am not talking about Superman, I am talking about Zelda. I prefer it to be original instead of taking the theme from superman. That is my point.

  • awesome...just awesome.

  • Best super hero theme song ever!

  • This Shoulda been the theme when Clarke in Smallville turned into superman!

  • I came when he started playing the intro

  • I remember when he came to Toronto to conduct the Toronto Symphony - of course he had to come out for an encore. The first encore was the theme from Rocky. He then turned to the audience and said, "and from one strong man to another...." which brought the house down because they knew this was coming. What other conductor/composer gets the treatment that rock stars get but John Williams? It's a crying shame he only scored the 1st 3 Harry Potter films - he should have done them all.

  • Along with Bernard Hermann's score for Vertigo and John Williams' score for the Star Wars Saga (especially for Empire), This has got to be my favorite film score EVER.

  • THE BOSTON POPS!!!!!<3 signé:un trompettiste de france...

  • I wish I could work with heaps of great artists like in this video!

When I was young I wanted to be a maestro but it doesn't look like easy work?

  • Comment removed

  • I wish i got an applause every time i left the bathroom !

  • Very Nice....!!!

  • damn show something else than the trumpets and trombones the whole freakin video!

  • 2-5-1?

  • im playing a super hero medley in band(: of course this is in it!

  • Does anyone else think that the music seemed a bit... slower than usual, for the lack of a better word?

  • @DCH13000 go back and watch your original superman movie, you'll find that the opening in this video is actually quite a bit up tempo from in the movie. The actual body of the piece seems to be right on tempo compared to the original movie.

  • Love the video.. but I kinda just wanna see John William Conduct! ha

  • John Williams an absolute legend of film music! Dare I say it, no one will ever surpass his skill in producing themes that stand the test of time!

  • Anybody else pick up the trumpet's mistake at 1:31?

  • @fifanb It happens, even with professional players.

  • John Williams' music is the music of my childhood. Indiana Jones, Superman, Star Wars. The best.

  • @hollywoodwerewolf Hell eyes! E.T., Jaws, Close Encounters....I'm SO SORRY for the kids of this generation that they didn't get to experience this WHILE it was happening in our childhood! I'm just so excited my little girl now loves it! I bought a 300" screen and made the room for it while designing my new house JUST so she and I could experience these amazing films in a theater setting! Its SO IMPORTANT to still be able to instill awe and wonder in your kids, they only get that gift for so long

  • Hands down the greatest movie theme and greatest Superhero ever! John WIlliams and Superman are awesome. :)

  • This theme will never get old! NEVER!!! I can't imagine there ever being a better or more iconic superhero theme than this!! :)

  • @lenzino7383 i agree it is the best but rocky is up there

  • why so brass centred?? its an orchestral piece, this vid doesnt show the rest of whats going on

  • @BedfordBears Yes the brass section plays a main role, because it's a marching tune called the "Superman March". It has the flavor of patriotism and heroism, and musically it's strongly based on American military marches - mixed with J.W.'s awesome symphonic orchestration skills. If you listen carefully to the sections where the brass section doesn't play forte, you can hear the strings, woodwinds and persussion. I have a copy of the score (John Williams signature series): it's beyond words.

  • The coolest brass chord is at 0:39!

  • Kind of makes you wanna fly doesn't it ahahhaahah..

  • Have to say this: Zimmer is good, but how can you seriously place him in the same category with Williams? Dark Knight, Pirates of the Caribbean, etc, are perfectly thrilling and good. ET, Jaws, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Schindler's List and the above? Those are among the finest scores ever written. Zimmer is in the shadow of Williams, and always will be. In fact, I would say Williams is the greatest film composer, ever. Like the Plato or Aristotle of film music...

  • @darkprose true..but zimmer cant produce memorable tunes like john did..pure magical!

  • @hans7474 Right, I completely agree, and that was my point. None of Zimmer's work, thus far, is as memorable as Williams' stuff. Which is not to hate on Zimmer, not at all. I like his stuff. But Williams is in a class by himself as far as I am concerned.

  • One of the GREATEST Movie themes EVER FOLKS! John Williams owns more Grammy's and Oscars than anyone for his work! AWESOME!!

  • The world seems a bit brighter when I hear this.

  • LOL i started crying when john williams walked out

  • @DonFlute22 I cried before he went out. I knew he was coming, just the thought of him, i didnt even need to see him, and then it just came. When he raised his baton i was like, no more, i cant take no more. And when they started to play. It all came. Im talking body fluids here. All of it. Tears, seed, poo-poo... all.

  • @varfordogjesus lolol sad but true. john williams is defidently our era mozart. it will be a real loss when we lose him.

  • Saw John Williams conducting The Toronto Symphony Orchestra years ago. He came back for an encore, starting first with "Eye of the Tiger" and after that was done, he wickedly said, "and from one strong man theme to another..." which of course brought the house down because we knew this was coming. Oh, so fabulous, Johnny!

  • this song always makes me want to fly :D

  • This guy really makes the music ring out!

  • We should make a movie serial based on the 1948 one with Kirk Alyn as Superman & Clark Kent. We can call it "Lex Luthor Gets Killed!"

  • dammit this gives me the chills every time!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It was not John Williams & the Boston Pops, but the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra that I watched/heard play this piece live. Though not the real thing, it was amazing enough to be listened to live, in a closed theatre. Quite something, with the beating and the drumming and the vibrations coming from different parts of the stage... Awesome. Brings emotions up pretty fast and effectively. Can only imagine what it must have been like when filming this video. Congrats to osc200 !

  • damn. this was nice. makes me miss christopher reeve.

  • I think the clarinetist all the way to the right was texting half the video

  • You might disagree with me, yet I think John Williams will be remembered as one of the all time masters of scores.

  • Just wondering, is That another tuba behind the trombones? Does their tubist use the other horn on various songs?

  • Lex Luthor made 7 Youtube Accounts to disklike this video

  • ;-))))))))))))

    Great comment

  • @GothSeiDank not just him he was with sith lords and the shark

  • @GothSeiDank LMAO

  • i hope John Williams lets Smallville use this theme when Clark finally puts the suit on and flies!!!

  • @jkoeni2 And they did! Well when he went to the roof anf ripped the shirt open.

  • @jkoeni2 John William did allow Smallville to use the theme when Clark wore the suit for the Finale

  • @edualym What suit?!?!

  • @jkoeni2 HE DID!!!

  • @jkoeni2 he did my freind he did

  • @jkoeni2 he will always remain a fuckin clark cuz he didnt fly

  • @jkoeni2 yes he does, the music is played towards the end

  • @jkoeni2 they did! O:

  • @jkoeni2 I guess he did. It was so cool too.

  • My alltime favorite musical score. Of all.

  • Standard orchestra in all way except for five French Horns.Made the entire piece pop.

  • I don't like your camera skills, dont just show trumpets and john williams next time, and if you do, show more of John, he's better

  • @shrillz I disagree. John is particularly boring here. This theme needs to be conducted with the energy and gusto of Leonard Bernstein.

  • Nice Film Job!!

  • To me, I always think of Chris Reeves. He WAS Superman. I miss him. The guy in Superman returns just didn't cut it.

  • Out with the old and in with the new, as they say. I grew up with this theme as the main Superman melody. But I'm confident that with the great Hans Zimmer at the realm, the new composition for the upcoming Superman reboot will be as good as, if not better than, this version. Hans is a creative genius; I'm sure he'll do well, and I support him all the way.

Like this if you're willing to pass the torch and give the Dark Knight/Inception/Sherlock Holmes/Pirates of the Caribbean composer a chance!

  • @ResidenceOfEvil In with the new? Yes, since we can't stop it anyway. But the old will never be "out" in this case. A new version would have to blow away everything you've ever heard to replace this one in most fans' hearts.

Zimmer (my 2nd fave film composer) will put his considerable talents to the task, and it will be interesting to hear what he does with it. Of course there will always be comparisons between the two themes, but I think that's part of the fun. I look forward to it.

  • Christopher Reeve is not dead. He just went home.

  • John Williams is a star without any doubt. It's a pity we only hear his music and not his superb conducting. Instead we see some musicians with a mouthpiece on their lips...

  • Perfect song for a man who could lift entire planets over his head with his bare hands.

  • Very good and profesional work, but my soul is iced and waiting for something more...

  • Brilliant melody. Played an arrangement of it in marching band

  • If you listen closely you can here Christopher Reeves being song. Its faint but it is there.

  • The new superman Tom Welling.

  • Does JW have all the rights to the songs he writes or does the movie producers have some of the rights?

  • @TonyODonnell01 the movie studios have a strangelhold on composers there is a legal textbook this business of music the film msuic chapter hasnt changed since the 1950s mancini tried to sue but didnt get anywhere richard rodney bennett said if you wont sign the contract somebody else will

  • cool!

  • Fantastic!

  • The final part of this theme is just legendary. It builds to the most incredibly epic climax!

  • Christopher Reeves :,(

  • Seriously..... who in their right mind would not geek out when they hear the Superman March!!!

  • I prolly would have cried. Holy crap, what a great song!!!!

  • Witnessing this performance in person (ie live) would be one of the best experiences ever! I'd pay a generous amount to be right up in the 1st few rows of seats!

  • whats that guy doing at 0.46 is he doing his nails or something? great music john (ahem) i mean Mr Williams you are the man without which star wars and others alike that you wrote music for would not be the films are today.

  • Truly amazing. Love it.

  • @nUedleProductions only Jackie Evancho could sing this song.....superwoman!!!!!!

  • @JackieFan123 Jackie Evancho sucks at singing.

  • Oh wow..... that's so damned awesome. I never throught that I could find here a live performance orchestra from these great theme of superman. It's fantasic. Since I was a child I was impressed from this music. It act to me so huge... And I like it when the sound raised up and you know: Now something will come to bet fantastic..... Absolutely great. It makes me smile

  • Music worthy of a comic book superhero...

  • @aaronjg682 Let's just say worthy of a HERO

  • @aaronjg682 Let's just say worthy of a HERO. This is the melody it's alll for, it gives hope in your heart just like a hero does

  • Comment removed

  • I am a huge John Williams fan and he is nothing short of amazing! But, no movie score will ever touch as one of Ennio Morricone's.

  • haha at about 0:47, you can see the oboist texting. Shame on you, oboist.

  • 1 thing JW is the MAN

  • Absoluteky brilliant....

  • Looks like the conductor went to the toilet first

  • John Williams is the Beethoven, Mozart, Grieg, Wagner, *gasp* Brahms, Handel, and pretty much every other great musician of the universe rolled in to one.

  • @SaulAdamTJ1234 I'm going to chalk that up to emotion and not reason. He's great but he's nothing compared to any one of those men. He'd agree with me.

  • @Lassannn Let me guess you think Babe Ruth is the best baseball player who ever lived too, right?

  • @Doza130 Bach is the greatest composer. Greatest ballplayer is up for grabs. Maybe Ty Cobb. Anyway, I know more about Classical music than you could read in 12 lifetimes, so shut up before you embarrass yourself.

  • @Lassannn true, but that's just my opinion. He would say that most likely to be humble. AND HE SHOULD BE!! If anyone else was like him, they'd be twittering about how good they are.

  • @SaulAdamTJ1234 I have the same idea. I'm not expert of course, Betthoveen, Mozart are great musicians, but "superman" or "star wars" sound better for me than several clasics like Handel, Brahms. Much of them are darks, whitout emotions, but the superman march, in exemple make me fly. In 100 years more Williams will be in the Olimpus of the all time musicians

  • @kinered you obviously haven't listened to those composers

  • @SaulAdamTJ1234 Don't forget the jazz influence. He didn't get those extended chords and dissonances from Brahms and Handel.

  • @SaulAdamTJ1234 His dad was a jazz percussionist and John himself worked as a jazz pianist with Henry Mancini.

His son, surprisingly, also was a lead singer for Toto. Brilliant band, by the way.

  • @HGSChicago CONSPIRACY!!!

  • @SaulAdamTJ1234 yes he is. williams is the master. he is one of the top greatest left now. john barry is gone. it will be difficult to replace any great conductors. SUPERMAN THE MOVIE is my favorite soundtrack. just powerful & beautiful.****

  • @SaulAdamTJ1234 please don`t exegerate!! i agree that he is a f*ing genius but please Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms and Handel rolled into one????? that would be pretty much God himself... so don`t exagerate....

  • @CactusG26 what's wrong with others' opinion?

  • i wish they'd release official HD recordings of those concerts

  • 5 people disliked this only because they're embarrassed it made them cry.

  • @evilsWa

    seriously it made me cry,

    i miss my childhood

  • @Posthuman7 you too, eh? Yeah sometimes having to be a grownup ain't what it's cut out to be; 'Desert Moon' by Dennis DeYoung does that for me too.

  • @evilsWa I was moved to tears and im not ashamed to admit it. Wow, what a piece of music, what a composer and conductor, what an orchestra. Of course, a mere sound recording cannot capture the power and grandeur of such an assemblage of talent, not even close. this can only be truly experienced live. I hope to witness this piece played live, conducted by Mr. Wiliams, by a group of this caliber one day before I die.

  • @evilsWa That's about the size of it, bub.

  • wonderfullll!!!!!!.... magico......

  • i play this when i come out of the restroom "S"

  • 0:50 Is it a bird?

    1:00 Is it a plane?

    1:05 NO ITS SUPERMAN!!!

  • John Williams is by far the greatest.

  • This is what I call "Flyin Music". :)

  • No he isn't shitting you!

  • This man is a Legend

  • Played very slow

  • Superman is like the best movie ever! The music, well, THE BEST!!!!!!!! I know how to play it on piano but the orchestra version is much better.

  • @144crazydude

Best movie ever?!? Are you shitting me?

  • Nice shots of the low brass, that's what I'm talking about. Gotta love JW's music.

  • I LOVE THIS SCORE.

    IT IS GENIUS!

  • Richard Donner actually admitted that he wasn't sure about John Williams at the time- but this score completely defined Superman. If you are a 70s or 80s kid like me, this brings back so many memories.

  • @TheGoldcountry That's why Richard Donner is an ass clown, and why he was replaced on the movie. Because he had a great idea and then tried taking it places it shouldn't have gone.

  • @Singact02 - Nonsense. Donner was fired because the producers kept getting pissed that he needed more time and money to make the film right. They wanted to go cheap and he wouldn't let that happen. So, get your facts straight next time. Oh and by the way, Donner was thrilled with Williams' work on the theme, so I have no clue what that other dude was talking about. Donner even interupted a take to let Williams know how pleased he was.

  • @MilkyLicker3587 Umm, ok. Keep telling yourself that. People are always replaced on movies because they're doing such a good job. I've seen both versions of the movie and half the shit he was putting in was useless and pointless in reference to the movie. Nice try though. Try harder next time.

  • @Singact02 - You're just flat out wrong, dude. You're just projecting your own opinion of his work onto the real story. The fact of the matter is that Donner had even gone as far as calling the Salkinds assholes, so naturally they felt the need to get rid of him. All Donner wanted to do was do the film correctly, but that costs money and they wouldn't have it. So, they hired Lester since they already owed him money. You need to read up on this more, dude. You're just talking out your ass

  • @Singact02 - And just so you know, Donners work on Superman The Movie was and still is very highly praised. The first film did really well at the box office, so no, they did not fire Donner because his work was no good. Go do some reading.

  • @MilkyLicker3587 NOT true..GO do your reading...

  • @UFOSPACE1999 - No, who the fuck are you? An alt screenname? LOL! Get the fuck outta here, chump. You obviously don't know shit about this.

  • @MilkyLicker3587 SAY mikelicker...Donner was filming two films at once...and finished 75 % of Superman 2. The Salkinds didn't have a schedule..no money was ever discussed and THE SALKINDS pulled this shit once before with 3 and 4 Musketeers....AND FAILED to tell certain people that there was 2 films...Even Lester sued the Salkinds...Donner should of been allowed to finish Superman 2 and WE all would of heard John Williams music and not ken thornes high school band!!!! SO fuck off.

  • @UFOSPACE1999 - UHhhh, duuuuhhh. Yes, there was a time schedule and a budget. Donner pushed it out when filming STM. Creatively, they were at odds and Donner hated the Salkinds, so they fired him. Yes, SII was mostly finished filming at the same time, BUT Donner would have reshot a lot of that stuff. Lester had to end up reshooting some of it anyway since he needed to have a certain percentage under his belt before the Guild would allow him to put his name on it as Director. So FUCK YOU.

  • williams is the soundtrack maestro of the popular imagination in the 20th and 21st century. i like that he stuck to his craft and didn't get involved in showbiz and in making his face well known. a noble artist who is peerless. the superman soundtrack is one of his finest works. the scenes of krypton and the opening credit score still gives me goosebumps. ingenious...

  • @naughtyboymessiah TOTALLY agree 100%. Amen.
