This was much deeper than a few bad apples, it was organized genocide under the guise of doing God’s work and the covert protection of heinous criminals. Priebke was by no means just following orders. He was part of a group that had more of an agenda than merely winning the war. Besides, the Nuremberg Trials showed that “only following orders” was not an acceptable defense for war crimes and/or genocide.
FYI, I would never take the lives of hundreds of innocent people in order to save my own life, and anyone who would do such a thing needs to be put out of his misery.

A murderer deserves death for his crime. If someone takes the life of an innocent person (let alone groups of innocent PEOPLE), then that person should not be afforded to learn anything. Whether someone committed murder yesterday or 65 years ago, the penalty should be the same death.
Priebke was not forced to commit these crimes. He joined an organization which was known for committing such atrocities.

This info can be found in the Encyclopedia Britannica (Vol. 6, 1957, if youd like to look it up). All armies that ever worked for the Vat, including the crusaders, have given their spoils to the Pope and/or Vat. Any gold found in conquered territories went to the Vat, and idols were "sanctified" by the Pope & venerated by Catholics all over Europe.
