@Goweaponshot no prob. as it's a common mistake to get them mixed up. the needle will move up is normal since you get whats called background radiation from everything. yes it picks up gamma radiation only. thing is these meters are so old only god knows how long it's been. also make sure your m-17 has nbc rated filters. they make two filters one is for tear gas other is for nbc. also the mask is useless per se if you don't have a suit on. sorry to blab so much.
dont you touch that thing without lead gloves on, it might have been used for radiation at one time. OMG. please wear a mask when you use a metre.

Yeah I messed up it is actually a survey meter but it does detect radiation in high doses.
I know I keep calling it a Geiger counter my bad.
