I tried this before, needless to say, I screwed up. I used a 60 degree lob wedge and Instead of hitting the grooves, I stood up in the middle of the swing and hit the bottom of the club on the ball sending it on a line drive about 150-175 yards.

who CAN'T put backspin on a lob wedge? really... put the ball back in your stance, your irons should still be in the downswing when it strikes the ball, leaving the divot about the size of a dollar bill in FRONT of where the ball was, therefore causing backspin. Opening and closing your club face is used for different reasons than putting backspin on shots the WRONG way. Food for thought.

In my opinion this video pretty much sucks to get more spin trap the ball more spin is generated by friction between the ground and the club. So trap your wedges hit your wedges pretty low and you will get alot of spin. Try to get the shaft ahead of the ball at impact the shaft should be leaing towards your left leg for the right handedgolfer. So trap the ball compress the golfball and you will get alot of spin.

@f0cusen I agree. I generate more backspin hitting down on the ball using the ground as well. What he is showing here is what I learned to be almost a flop shot. (Not saying I am a know all about golf though) Open the face and get the ball in the air with spin.
