well at that time nissan was pretty much the muscle car of japan. they made cars specifcally to be GT. honda/acura, toyota, mazda, mitsibushi could not even compete with them.

well at the time of this movie anyway, in about 5 years there was the toyota Supra, FD mazda rx7, Mitsubishi GTO,Evolution, there were heaps of cars the market was practically saturated with them.

Street Racing gangs were dominant on the street and the cops had no control over it. Japanese cops are kind of wimpy too.
