I used to work with an African American guy in 1968-1969.. at the Post Office in NY..and he too played jazz guitar.. and he personally knew Wes (how.. I can't remember).. and we drove all the way to Indy to see Wes play.. and we saw him play this very song.. then, in 1969 Wes passed.. and when my co-worker told me Wes died.. I cried.. My co-worker and I loved this song the best!

@wesm65 Nat wrote it, but without words. Oscar Brown Jr wrote the words and recorded the first version with vocals
