way to go kid. I wish i could get my teenager to learn some survival/self sufficiency skills. in this crazy world we live in you may actually need those skills one day.
Nice video. May I add something to your comments about the rule of three.....the Air Force survival manual also lists one more...."3 months without hope or companionship."
i bought a big painters tarp at Canadian Tire a few weeks ago and its great, it folds down small and has a large surface area when unwrapped. i think i got it for about $2 but its wite not blaze orange.
If you want the magnesium to catch the sparks, try funneling small shavings of it into one group on some tinder... Quick-light fire starters are also another good option
2. Just bring a lighter. The striker is good, but a lighter is better.
3. There's this thing called a space blanket. Its a blanket that you can fold yourself into. It's very warm, and it has a reflective coating. It folds up into the size of a wallet, and it costs like 2-3 dollars.
4. I wouldn't trust a thorn to catch a fish. Hooks are better.
a hook is far better than any thing you can make and fishing can save your life by occuping you and boosting moral and the first rule of three is 3 seconds without moral and what is survival without the will to live
trust me listen to bassman018 you should have fishhooks with you, they are much stronger and more reliable than those you do out of wood. then you should maybe consider to put some matches and maby even a lighter in your kit to. and the poncho looks to be the same quality as my shit! by something a little moore expensive like 20$. it will hold better. check out other vids on youtube you might get some moore ideas. but still a good vid keep them coming!
You need way more snare wire, Make snares at home and carry About 10-12 pre made snares and use 2 feet per snare that will increase your chances greatly at getting game. Also carry hooks they are much stronger than what you would make in the bush and you won't loose fish as easily on a barbless wooden hook

the three minutes without oxygen is for like diving into caves and you get trapped
packrat557 2 years ago
or say you build a snow shelter with out sufficient oxygen openings, there are multiple reasons but it's still good advice

Try taping a rough file to your magnesium bar for getting a lot of filings off at once and you will find that it will light every time.
