Maybe if you were to pay attention, you would see that a recession is not a president's fault. The '70's and 80's was due to OPEC embargo over israel. That is exactly why oil skyrocketed and people suffered terribly from inflation. The great Depression was because everyone wanted to sell their stocks all of a sudden and the prices plummeted and there was a CREDIT CRISIS while mass over production. So, take into account, a president doesn't control the economic situations.
For everyone that doesn't realize it, Military members & their families get free healthcare as a benefit. If we were to go to the socialized healthcare that Obama wants, that would just bring more chaos. Just experiencing the healthcare service for the military can tell you that many people will be waiting hours to be seen. Almost everybody would go in for minor stuff that could be taken care of @ home like a small allergy problem. Ever find it funny that Canadians run to the US for healthcare?
Canadians don't run to the US for healthcare! In Canada, when you're sick you go to a doctor, you don't stay home and get sicker because you can't afford it. When you're injured, you go to the hospital without worrying about insurance. Canadians can address their small health issues before they become big issues, which is why we have fewer surgeries and emergency hospital stays, we live longer, and are generally healthier than Americans. Our healthcare isn't perfect but it's better than yours!
Oh really. Maybe the reason why you have less surgeries and that is because Americans are quite numerous compared to Canadians. Unless you haven't noticed, Americans are much more obese and eat much crappier things more often than that of you. Canadians don't run to the US for cuts and scrapes as well as sniffles. The run to the US for more major stuff because they are sick and tired of waiting for crap service at Canadian hospitals. Ever been to Montreal?
We have proportionally fewer surgeries. Maybe if Americans could consult regularly with their doctors without worrying about the costs, they would be better educated about their health and take better care of themselves. And while I have been to Montreal, I haven't been sick there. I have, however, been sick in the States and while it was only a minor illness, getting treatment and a prescription was an insurance nightmare. I desperately missed my friendly doctor and free Canadian healthcare.
Canada is not the United States by the way. We have far more cultural diverse groups than Canada so genetics plays a huge role in the number of illnesses here. We teach people here on what needs to be done to be healthy. The problem is that people refuse to follow those. If people have insurance and have the necessary info, they wouldn't have a problem with insurance here anyway. My insurance company doesn't have any problems with medical facilities.
I'm well aware that Canada is not the US. We have people of all cultures and ethnicities living here, just as you do there, so it can hardly be argued that diversity accounts for American health problems. For those with adequate insurance, the American healthcare system may be just fine, but what about the tens of millions of people in your country who cannot afford insurance? What about those whose pre-existing conditions make it impossible to get approved? Don't they deserve medical care, too?
This might sound racist, but Mexicans tend to eat alot of starchy foods, & that doesn't necessarily help their weight much. We have alot more people of ethnic backgrounds from places were they tend to gain lots of weight. Alot of South American people as well as Hawaiian/polynesian people have that genetic problem. We have alot more than you do. America has millions of people without healthcare, but Bush passed a bill in 2003 that would actually help that. people need to research their insurance

Yeah,I do not know if there is really any such thing as a free speech zone because the police get away with violating those so often that it is not even funny. Basically,the police pull up and say we are the law,do what we say. Defy them,and you might get your head cracked open. As far as the popo are concerned,the law is what they say it is on the spot whether or not what they are saying is in compliance with the law or not. They get away with that all the time too. Democracy and freedom?

The very last woman interviewed said that the GOP base can elect McCain. It shows just how ignorant she is. This nation is 1/3rd GOP, 1/3rd Dem, & 1/3rd Independent. NOBODY can get elected without crossover support to bolster their base numbers.

True that. She WAS ignorant. She had better not ever go into politics. She would not have a chance. Being rigid and extreme will only result in you not getting elected when you are a politician. However,if you are just a regular Joe or Jane you can be as rigid and extreme as you like as long as you do not go breaking the law. Of course.:-)

dafttool, it's true that McCain needs ind. votes, but he needs to hold on to his base as well. That's why he continues to harp on a "small government" message.

Actually,from what I can tell, Obama himself has never said anything of a racist nature. Sure,some Republicans try to falsely accuse him of that by comparing different speeches that he makes to different groups of people but I am not buying that. He has never overtly done or said anything racist,to my knowledge,while McCain has. He voted against making MLK's birthday a national holiday. Obama got nothing to top that in terms of racist behavior.
