my favorite animated film of all time, Stevie singin this song made it that much more awesome, adding just the right touch of the surreal. Thank You for this post!
Can't believe the 30th anniversary of HEAVY METAL was just a couple of days ago. I remember being too young to get into the theatre in 1981; didn't see it in its full version until 1992!
Eye tried to get outta here but ALLAH-JEHOVA's Starz laughed and said "Donwstairs The Big Old House iz Mine - Have fun giving away Man-Shunz. I gave This Baron to Ewez in 1986."
""""And the guardian of ur challenge does not cry..........."""" One of my top fav Stevie tunes....so hard to choose a fav bc they're all favs, really............
@maxman1602 You've watched this film many times but can't recall this song? This should be a reminder to all just how easy it is to over look things that go on around you in every day life. Are you seeing all that can be seen? Are you hearing all that can be heard? Something to think about...
I saw the film when it was projected (I think it was in early 80's here in France). The animated cartoon Heavy Metal was inspired by a magazine named Metal Hurlant, a comic book, a mix of science-fiction stories and music... The sound track was very very good with such good groups like Chip Tricks, Blue Oyster Cult, Grand Funk Railroad ...
Both Heavy Metal films represent the state of the magazine at their respective points in time. This was when it was at its height, and Heavy Metal 2000 shows how it started going downhill in the '90s.
Ah a fan of HM magazine, did you know that magazine has influenced many movies over the years including Blade Runner to Fifth Element and now Avatar and Sucker Punch? it's true, James Cameron is a huge fan of HM magazine and this movie as he cited one of the influences was HM magazine for Avatar. You gotta admit that movie does have the feel of a big screen issue brought to life with it's story, world, creatures, half-naked alien chicks, warriors and that kind of thing.
Stevie Nicks was a hottie! who else saw this movie in the early 90's on TBS with Vampire Hunter D, American Pop, Robot Carnival and Rock and Rule? I DID when i was 12 about 18 years ago and they blew my mind. I bought VHD and Robot Carnival at 14 on uncut video, taped RockandRule on uncut MGM tape when i was 12 from one of my city's video stores and bought Heavy Metal when it hit video at 15 with Akira and Ghost in The Shell and bought American Pop at 17.
Most agree too! did you know both the magazine and this movie influenced Avatar and The Fifth Element? both of those movies were like HM issues and HM the movie stories brought to life. Both Luc Besson and James Cameron are major fans of the movie and magazine since it came in theaters. And do you think Neytiri of Avatar fame would have made the cover to HM magazine?
@Johnlindsey289 I always thought The 5th Element was kinda like HM just because of the taxi cab driver, but I have'nt seen Avatar yet.Previews looked like it was geared to much for kids, but I have heard its a good flick. Who is Luc & James? I don't keep up to much with the Hollywood shit.Lol
Oh rent Avatar it's like Heavy Metal magazine brought to life and James Cameron (The guy who made Terminator 1 & 2, Titanic, Aliens, True Lies and The Abyss) is a major fan of HM the movie and the magazine as he used those as some of his inspirations to Avatar, it's really a more adult version of the SW prequels as it puts those except episode III to shame. Luc Besson is the guy who did Le Femme Nikita and Leon a.k.a. The Professional as he did Fifth Element.
You should also check out other cool similar cult adult animated classics like Akira, Ninja Scroll, Fantastic Planet, Lightyears (aka Gandahar), Wicked City, Ghost in The Shell, fire and ice, Wizards, Urotsukidoji Legend of the Overfiend, Meet The Feebles, Pink Floyd The Wall, Heavy Traffic, South Park The Movie, El Superbeasto, Golgo 13 The Professional, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Princess Mononoke, Fritz the Cat, Fist of the North Star etc
Seen any of the others including Akira, Wizards, Ghost in The Shell, Urotsukidoji, Beowulf, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (aka Warriors of the Wind), The Wall, Fire and Ice, Ninja Scroll, Felidae, Wicked City etc.?
I know him with David Fincer, Zack Snyder, Guillermo Del Toro, Rob Zombie, Gore Verbinski and Jack Black are teaming up together for a new HM animated movie. I hear it might have different animation in each segment and i think they should hire that Ninja Scroll/Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust/Animatrix/Wicked City director for an anime segment or even Katsuiro Otomo of Akira fame. Maybe hire Will Vinton for claymation and do you think Fifth Element and Avatar are similar to HM?
0:54- 1:00 I think it sounds so sexy the way she sings that line. It was always my favorite part in the movie when they played this song in the background when Tarna is going to that space-era redneck bar and plus that's right before the part they play my absolute favorite song, "Through being cool"- by Devo!
Sorry I asked. I forgot I was in the land of the everlasting, world problem solving, cancer curing, intergalactic eternal all wise, all knowing geniuses. Hell, even Brian May of Queen says he has to "ask" sometimes...confer...consult..."hit the books" A lot of the great ones had to ask. But excuse me. You dont know yourselves.
@Hellrazer12 I personally played piano/keyboard in highschool, they offered it as a course, I learned how to play that, all sheet music. When I picked up guitar a year or two later I learned it, self taught from tablature, now I play Marty Friedman , Jason Becker, and Megadeth stuff, along with Slayer and Death :P
Den was the reason my Army buddies and I went to see the movie in the first place, after reading the entire "Neverwhere" saga in the early issues of Heavy Metal we couldn't wait to actually see it played out on screen. Den is my hero, my Avatar, searching for answers in a hostile world, but only finding more questions.
