  • @1dmeixner Nice.

  • i hate kindles with a passion

  • Double Thims up!

  • Wait a bit for 7 color or better color ereaders you will still be able to design book like images most ereaders have a show cover and text title.

  • What's this? You brought a bat to a shotgun fight?

  • Why not design Kindle Kovers ?

  • Why not design Kindle Kovers ?

  • Grow a sense of humor meridian. Keep clutching that Kindle and I will enjoy the iPad.

  • What arrogance and stupidity! If this is the best you can do to promote your profession then you deserve to go the way of the buggy whip makers. You come after my Kindle and I will defend it. You are not the only ones with bats.

  • Looks like we didn't have to smash the Kindle. I think the iPad will do that without our help.

  • The best reenactment of this classic Mike Judge scene I've ever seen :-D

  • what do i think? 1 star...unoriginal...anyone who's seen "office space" knows this. this vid is a waste of youtube space.

  • Awesome!, The kindle is a totally useless and redundant device IMO, and just got what it deserves in this video.

  • Awesome

  • cute vid.

give the kindle color capability and perhaps book covers can survive.

  • Awesome! Long live print!!!

  • Awesome! My wife and I were just talking about this wretched machine the other day. What is our obsession with gadgets? Ugh!

  • Never judge a book by its cover. It's about content, after all.

  • @fangednekoyasha

That's the ironic part...it's not a book. It's an over-expensive excuse of a book reader, when I can buy a nice fluent book for under $30.

  • Great Job! Loved it at the AIGA conference!

  • Too funny. Cheers!

  • I agree with Clay10mograf. The video is fun, but hoping it isn't our true reaction as designers. If so, we might as well join up with the Luddites in a futile cause : )

  • your my hero chaz!

  • welcome to the job centre guys

  • Great work chaz. It was a pleasure being able to present in the 20/20 with you

  • I saw this live at the conference and it had me laughing my ass off. Nice work

  • I HATE the "kindle". Much like records (and cds), the real fans of music know better and will keep packaging/hard copies alive!

Kindle = void of personality... bland... a story killer!

  • I understand what Clay is saying. However, I think this video is just for fun. It's filed under "comedy".

  • We have the exact same philosophy. Let's talk design sometime lol.

  • lighten up Clay.

  • Did no one get the 'Office Space' relation. Watch the movie, then you'll get it.

  • lol, yeah. I also got the reference immediately. I guess most people are clueless :P

  • This video is an expression of fear. It's a group of skilled and talented horse trainers smashing an early automobile in the town square.

Like crappy early cars, the Kindle is not the future of books. The Kindle will fail, for a variety of reasons. But make no mistake, it will not be the last of its kind. E-books will eventually succeed once publishers and readers are ready for it.

And designers: There's nothing to fear. Design will always be central to books, whether they're paper or digital.

  • You should clean up afterwards! ;)

  • 0:41 actually made me make a sound of guttural delight. props!

  • a modern exercise of impermanence... yeay!

  • No worries friends, books and print isn't going anywhere! The kindle has a thousand+ years of refinement before we need to worry about a take over.

  • The point is it was fun.

  • Hooray for print, go Charles. Plus, if you took a bat to a book, it wouldn't nearly be this exciting or shrapnel-filled.

  • Excellent video. And to those who think this is about people not buying books anymore, I suspect the real frustration with the Kindle is its overall lack of beauty and design aesthetics, not that people won't be able to see the pretty covers anymore. The Kindle isn't a lovely object. It's not pleasurable to hold or to look at. It's a disappointment. Plus, you can't see the pretty covers.

  • ...meh. I love books. I love my Kindle, and the ability to carry several hundred books with me all the time. The Kindle can't replace the book, but neither can the book substitute for the Kindle - which means, in essence, that you just dropped several hundred dollars in order to make a cheap Office Space reference, full of sound and fury, signifying... nothing.

Best of luck with the mad-on there, though. I hear they make creams for that...

  • Buying a Kindle isn't going to stop me from buying books- and the more advance the readers get, the more graphics they'll be able to show- hence you're not really threatened by the Kindle. People will still browse online before buying, and the cover art will still be important. Cute video though!

  • if people really wanted wanted a pretty cover, than people would go get a book. whats the point of making yourself look like complete tossers?

  • excellent.

now I need to go watch office space again...

  • So what's what scribes felt like at the introduction of the printing press...

  • Long live REAL BOOKS !

  • You were a hit, Charles.

  • YES

  • Good job! This video is awesome! I <3 books-real books that can actually turn the pages!
