No they shouldn't. It's a great old school style RPG that most people love. People shouldn't avoid it because YOU didn't like it, it's a great game. And not even boring.
Any of those games OR this game would be great for old school RPG's. This is a tribute to games like Final Fantasy, Lufia, and Dragon Quest. If you think any of those are bad however...
Indeed it was. Nostalgia was developed by Matrix, who did FF3 and FF4 DS, as well as their own game Avalon Code. All those games, and this one use the same engine.
yeah i got that mario and lugi shit the other day and its mad good.you should get kingdom hearts and this wizard of oz rpg game too because both those games are real good.
I hope the battles don't take too long to complete because the battle animations are for every little thing and they go out of the way to show them. Taking 2-3 minutes each battle is very annoying and slows down the game. (Based on other FF games on the ds)
i prefer easy rpgs like paper mario this might seem laughable to serious rpg fans but i like that u can reduce damage by pressing a but this looks good i might just play it
Ugh. I thought we were to the point where we've moved away from this stupid "take two steps and get attacked by enemies" bullshit. Even Final Fantasy is stepping away from this.
im really glad there are more traditional rpg games being made. Some rpgs these days are straying away from what rpgs are supposed to be, while its always good to try something different, some of them just do it wrong and dissapoint.
Both Ring of Fates and Echoes of Time have voice acting and a lot of it. It is REALLY terrible though IMO (Echoes is better than Ring though). I'm actually glad this game has no voice. They would likely ruin it.
im glad there is no voice acting as well. Even though sometimes its nice to hear some voice acting if its well done and the voice dosent sound uber annoying, sometimes its good to leave it up to the imagination what the voice would sound like. Old FF had NO voice acting and theyre the more popular ones haha :)
I know I know. It was just announced like yesterday, so that's fine that you correct me. I'll remove that comment saying there's no US release. Hehe. Happy am I!
Yes, this game uses the same exact engine from Final Fantasy 3 DS. With a few optimizations though to get more 3D models onscreen at once. Both this Nostalgia game and Final Fantasy 3 (and 4) DS are developed by Matrix. Cool huh?
No, all good RPGs don't have intense level grinding.
Level grinding too much can take away a gamers interest. Sure, level grinding is acceptable is certain areas of the game. But when the whole games seems to have too much level grinding, it just seems like you're wasting your time.
It is important that RPGs have the right amount of grinding.
Some of the best ranked RPG's have intense level grinding. FF6 and 7 for example. I don't consider FF7 to be the best game I ever played, but others do. As for this one, I had a go with the Japanese version. It's not really at all bad compared to other similar games. I got from level 1 to 10 in just a few rather short minutes.
that depends on your definition of grinding. As long as you can progress through the main story without having to go out of your way to find battles, I don't call it grinding.
I don't mind grinding at times, but only if the battle system is extremely fun (and this type of old-school turn based system just bores the hell out of me).
You are 100% correct that it's like FF. The basic gameplay is almost exactly the same as FF3 DS. AND the game was developed by Matrix, the company who made the DS remakes of FF 3 and 4. This game uses the same engine from both of those games. So there's nothing weird about its uncanny resemblance to the FF games.
what is the name of the game?
talzeraviv 9 months ago
@talzeraviv In the US, the game is know as just "Nostalgia". The dropped the Winds of when localizing it.

You want great old school style RPG's play the dragon quest remakes, etrian oddysey, or the dark spire.
This game not so much. It's like a tribute to the bad JRPGs from the snes/ps1 era

seems to me like its another final fantasy, but its not from Square Enix so nah i'm not going to play

Too bad you have to be narrow minded about it. But hey. it's your problem if you want to miss out on a good game.
(really though, who refuses to play a game just because it wasn't made by Square Enix?!?)

@granvillimus its japanese dammit!!! (lol)

I don't believe there is any voice acting. There are some cutscenes with people moving their mouths, but only text appears.

by this game Im guessing have you played FFCC: Ring of Fates?
now does that have voice acting or just Echoes of Time?

FF6 did not have that much level grinding. I'm talking about intense level grinding like the Final Fantasy 1,2,3 or Dragon Quest games.
Chrono Trigger is ranked as one of the Best RPGs, and it's level grinding is just right.
EnglishTurtle 2 years ago
FF6? You played that game right?
Kefka was one of the best villains ever.
BUT i had to spend countless hours grinding to even get close to 'em.
