Funny, she blames him for spending the money on whiskey when they needed food so bad then she spends the money her father gives her on one extravagant meal! She can't be that worried about starving.
@MrCateyanne i think its justified...she sold her most prized possession because he was too proud stubborn and selfish to collect his allowance, he finds the cash and spends all of it on boos for himself. he doesnt go to the market and buy supplies, no just buys bottles of useless swig for him to drown himself in that will lead him to abuse her later. no she was right to get something for herself, because she hasnt thought about herself the entire time.
Almost makes me wonder if the Nick is after her cause he knows she is with that jerk and wants to steal her from him as the jerk stole Nick's wife from him.
@happyhappy115 I'm really surprised he got 8 years. A man walks in on another man with his wife and usually anything that happens will be justified as a crime of passion. Even today if he pulled a gun and killed him, he's probably get off. In those days, I'm shocked he got any kind of sentence.
@Coleburg crimes of passion was first introduced in the late 1850's, and was more commonly known as temporary insanity. prior to that it was see as man slaughter or non criminal murder, he still would have been accountable and sentenced but with sympathy as he didn't intentionally set out to kill him.
She believes she loves him. It won't be until she gets to know the Nick fellow that she'll see what love is. And in those days, women never questioned their husbands behaviour...most of the time it was just accepted.
she calls that happiness?
