Ive seen this movie so many times that I can recite parts of it....just like Chuck with the Woodstock flick here! Sometimes, when Im watchin the movie, I recite the movie along with Chuck reciting the movie in the movie, and therein can be found eternity! Yup, they sure dont make pictures like that anymore;)
I liked Omega Man, I Am Legend was good, but the infected people were too much like zombies in my opinion, although the cloaks and sunglasses were a little lame, it worked, great movie-sic props
People these days are getting the wrong impression that zombies are fast semi intelligent creatures. Zombies are dead, stupid, and slow and thats how it should be and people calling "other" types of things like Ganados in RE 4 for instance, zombies, just pisses me off.
Many of you are missing the point of this sequence entirely! The reason he's watching a movie filled with hippies has nothing to do with politics. But, it has entirely to do with the fact that Robert Neville is the last man on earth, he's lonely, he talks to himself constantly, and those masses of people up there on the big screen afford him some level of comfort. Hell, he's seen the movie so many times that he mouths all the words. And anyway, when this film was made, he was still a democrat.
you're wrong dude. you're missing the point. C.H is lonely but he sure as hell is contemptible of the people in the Woodstock movie. I implore you to find any hint of C.Hs solidarity with the children of the revolution. There is nothing but contempt written on his face, and its appropriate that C.H dies at the end of the movie, while the off spring of the children of the revolution, drive off into the future.
I love to read folks' different interpretations of any form of art (film, theatre, etc.) and you gave me pause. Charlton Heston watching Woodstock? He had nothing in common with the people in Woodstock. He was from a whole other generation. The Omega Man was an awesome movie but this choice of movie for Heston to watch seemed a little bit out of place. Or maybe not since it fit into the whole seventies decade.
I thought the same exact thing!!! Charlton Heston was in some of the greatest movies, but sometimes they cast him in roles or scenes he was to old for. That scene of Heston watching the Woodstock film is a perfect example. When he was romancing Nova in Planet of the Apes is another. . .
Hope Mr. Heston is with Jesus. Knowing that Jesus is in your heart. So to speek. Is what it's all about. Not the acting stuff. Jesus is coming soon. Are you ready?
Alright, bro, I'm gonna disagree with you on that one. Christians do rule the land, and have brought us nothing but war and hatred. They give crap to people who want peace, because "The Lord wants us to go to war with all the heathen nations!" I believe in God, man, and I think I have pretty firm grasp on the things he said. And I didn't get it from some talking head behind a podeum. Don't go to institutions for truth, because they will sell you a convenient truth (AKA a lie)
At the end of teh world we'll all just be sittin' back in the theatre, watchin video of how the world usta rock. How we usta have a war but we fought'n the street and brought it home, and stopped it. How we usta have an evil president but we impeached the bastard. How we usta have amber waves of grain.
Heston was a Liberal until 1972. Reagan's switch from Liberalism was also for selfish reasons rather than ideology. Makes you wonder if early senility was the cause for both men. Patriot Reagan acted in US Training films but never served and Heston to his credit actually served and walked with MLK.
Senility was caused by genetics. Alzheimers isn't a disease one chooses to get. Both men were smart because they knew the liberal path the Democratic party was going at the time, and wanted to stay true to the conservative principles they both believed in. Liberals have NEVER stood the test of time, because liberalism has and will continue to be the wrong ideology for people to believe in. The ideology puts people at odds with God,and that is NEVER good...
The United States of America had Liberal founding fathers. If this grand experiment dies it will do so at the hand of Conservatives and their backwards ideology as we are currently experiencing. Conservatism has little to do with God. Our Founding Fathers went out of their way to proclaim this country was NOT a Christian nation. If and when this land is ruled by Christians it will be the end of the USA. Even Liberals will not be able to save it.
Liberalism and conservatism are labels for collectivism.
The U.S.A. had founding fathers that appreciated the notion of HONORABLE INDIVIDUALISM, not collectivism.
Despite the shallow differences, liberalism and conservatism are both the same deep down as they seek to keep you from thinking and deciding FOR YOURSELF yet to help others when it's the right thing to do.
Libertarian ideas, not liberal or conservative ideas, are accurate to what the founding fathers had in mind.
I'm a libertarian, man. I agree with you whole-heartedly, and I'm sorry if I came across as anything otherwise. Being completely on one side or another is saying you've made up your mind to follow the crowd no matter what. Good to see a fellow thinker. :) Peace
do not confuse libertarian with left wing. you are not a libertarian, you are left wing. your comments above prove it. that for which you do not understand, you denigrate. moonman made a simple statement giving best wishes to heston. you have faith in nothing and therefore cannot understand why others do. as watcher said (who you agree with) "honorable individualish" is what moonman is expressing. you cannot accept it so you must destroy it.
Actually, I agree with you to some extent. I am, however, a libertarian, not left wing. Left wingers want more laws. And as far as anarchism goes, try studying it a little, you might learn something, if you have an open mind. you were right, it is borderline anarchy. I don't believe we can hire in change. We are the ones who make the changes, individually. Truly sorry if I offend anyone. Peace
Libertarianism is nothing short of anarchy. It is a cop out and will never amount to much. No two libertarians agree on anything. Just look at your Presidential candidate. Libertarians and Republicans are two sides of the same coin...both severely lacking.
They don't make pictures like that anymore and they don't make men like you anymore Mr Charlton Heston. Thanks for standing up and defending freedom. From my cold hands, I mean it as a act of defiance against gun control.
One should take the time to observe into the realism and accuracy of the information presented and carefully decides for them to be genuine or false. In poor health Heston was taken by an unkind type after genuinely accepting it into his home. Undoubtedly the outcome of the interview with the vampire transpired in Mr. Heston being blackballed by some, all because of a bogus scrutiny done by a narcissistic fool! History will authenticate, Heston an American Legend! Will miss you!
Well done sainters7 for pointing out Charlton Hestons record on racism also for your true description of bottom feeder M. Moore. Charlton Heston was an old fashioned guy who proudly wore his patriotism on his sleeve as did many of his generation. Whats so wrong with that Those who hate Heston and ole' Duke Wayne before him are living on a diet of Oprah, her fellow pedler of dribble DR Phil and lowest of all, the reptile who makes money from peddling lies and distorting facts, M.Moore
Heston was one of the last of a generation of men who were real men. Honest, loyal, patriotic men who did what needed done without complaint. Men who married and raised good children and stayed married and loyal. Men who did what was right even when it wasn't popular. Men who did all of this with humility and shied away from the spotlight and the temptations of fame. He was....no, IS a great man and he will be greatly missed.
clever. i'm sure Mr. Heston spoke that way of our brothers on the left. No, of course he didn't. You have decided to take the low road. See you in hell.
That was taken so out of context. When he said that, he was refering to the rifle in his hand that had just been given to him as an award for all his years of service, in other words, he'll cherish the award forever. It wasnt meant as Michael Moore made it seem, as an act of defiance against gun control lobbyists. Heston was an advocate of freedom who marched with Martin Luther King in the streets. That fat bastard Michael Moore and some creative editing tarnished his good name.
years ago i went to a anniversary showing of El Cid at the Hollywood Cinerama Dome.I could'nt even get near MR. Heston, but I did meet his wife and told her I was a big fan and a NRA . She took me by the hand and moved all the other "Hollywood Types" aside and introduced me to her husband ,He was a real gentleman and GodBless her Mrs Heaton was a real lady.

My family's deepest regrets and sincere expressions of loss and sorrow for his passing.
Truly he was a Ghost of the Magic Lantern in defense or the American ethic, and his legacy will be remembered and his memory revered for many years to come.
People don't realize he watches this movie over and over be cause he misses how people were when they were alive before the virus. People were free happy and content and enjoying life. Now he is alone........
"Romero has acknowledged the influence of the novel and its 1964 adaptation on his 1968 film Night of the Living Dead." - "Encyclopedia Brittanica" I stand forrected :-D.
NAH Im not an insider or an extra in the movie,im just someone who loved the book and both movie versions.I wish Hollywood would dig into the huge pile of scripts their sent every day and come up with something original.leave the classics alone and fund new fresh stuff.Remaking rarely works, look at Planet Of The Apes(another CHUCK classic),whats next?Chris Tucker in SOLYENT GREEN?!!!!!!!!!
This original movie was great. It had a good feel for the Black hostility of the time, but it was a hostility that had some style and soul and the Charleton Heston character appreciated it - king of like the last Conservative White guy in a Northern urban city that went totally Black, only Whites left around are PC Leftists trying to incite the Blacks to hate Whites - out somewhere else as all the Whites are gone.
Youre right, sometimes especially in the late 50s through to the 70s the movies coming out could give you a clearer insight into how people percieved the coming of the atomic age or feelings about Vietnam, and do it a way more truthful than any history book.
What do you think the infected dudes will look like in the remake?,with the first they were very Zombie like.Still with a degree of intellect and reason, but driven by hate in OMEGA,and I'll bet that they make them into some kind of 28days later type vampires in the new one.I had'nt thought about the well kept park lawns in LAST MAN,heh heh!! youre right.
I watched that for the first time a couple of days ago,and it still holds up well.I enjoyed both version and remember being about ten when I first saw OMEGA and it scared the CRAP!!! out of me.I am Legend has a good track record for being made into films...VINCENT PRICE,CHARLTON HESTON and..Will Smith?! I dont know I hope im wrong but if they just throw a whole lot of CGI and action at the screen I think we'll lose the story.Modern Hollywood's good at that.Like I say though,I hope im wrong.
I'm telling you. Heston was the bomb back then. He got on this Sci-Fi-Socio-Political trip with Planet of The Apes, The Omega Man and Soylent Green. All prophetic commentary on what is going down TODAY! Add 1975s Rollerball to the list and you have the perfect Retro Dystopian Movie Festival!
I just found out that the song is called "Comin' Into Los Angeles" by America. Thanks greatly PanzerMort. Now we all know & can find it for our collections of the past & the smiles of our youth.
My childhood. This movie is my childhood. It had such an impact in the way it told the story. A lot of us were thinking it might come down to that very soon. It was the 1970s. It was a cult favorite, then and now.
I know the first of the pair of songs is by Country Joe & Fish, but does anyone know the second one and who sings it/what's it called? The movie makes me smile - the world is much more terrifying that this movie but still poignant symbolically even today.
No way! The premise of the movie is still very politically relevant today. It may be a bit over the top, but even without a disease to turn people in mind-warped zombies, whats the possibilities of some TV news anchor/dirty liberal, becomming a new Rev. Jim Jones!?! Think about it!

ronstadtfanaz 3 years ago
No. It's Democrats and Republicans that are on the same coin. That is more the truth than you dare believe.
Both TELL you what to believe in.
Both invoke COLLECTIVISM at the expense of individuality.
Two good examples are the Red scare from the Republicans in the 50's and the Green scare from the Democrats today.
Both treat the Bill of Rights and the Constitution like they were printed on toilet paper.
Watcher3223 3 years ago 2
Libertarianism is about respecting each other enough to leave everyone else alone unless help is specifically asked for.
If help is asked for, then providing the help is done if it's the right thing to do.
Democrats and Republicans provide answers to questions no one asks. They provide help that is really the unwanted trifling in others affairs.
Being a Democrat or a Republican is being a spineless follower unwilling to question anything except each others agenda. That, to me, is a cop out.
Watcher3223 3 years ago
Yes, because advocating personal freedom and individual liberties is a "cop out".

No captain sir! I mean Dawn of the dead. The book I Am Legend is what gave him the idea to use a mall for his movie.

"Romero has acknowledged the influence of the novel and its 1964 adaptation on his 1968 film Night of the Living Dead." - "Encyclopedia Brittanica" I stand forrected :-D.

lol both movies are wild and awesome if you have a great sense of humor. It's highly cheesy and entertaining, in a good way.

NAH Im not an insider or an extra in the movie,im just someone who loved the book and both movie versions.I wish Hollywood would dig into the huge pile of scripts their sent every day and come up with something original.leave the classics alone and fund new fresh stuff.Remaking rarely works, look at Planet Of The Apes(another CHUCK classic),whats next?Chris Tucker in SOLYENT GREEN?!!!!!!!!!
fatorson1 4 years ago
Yeah, why can't Hollywood make an original movie?

And Will Smith will do a FUNKY rap theme tune,Oh!!!! and i'd bet my share of the virus antidote that he doesnt die at the end

What do you think the infected dudes will look like in the remake?,with the first they were very Zombie like.Still with a degree of intellect and reason, but driven by hate in OMEGA,and I'll bet that they make them into some kind of 28days later type vampires in the new one.I had'nt thought about the well kept park lawns in LAST MAN,heh heh!! youre right.
fatorson1 4 years ago
I watched that for the first time a couple of days ago,and it still holds up well.I enjoyed both version and remember being about ten when I first saw OMEGA and it scared the CRAP!!! out of me.I am Legend has a good track record for being made into films...VINCENT PRICE,CHARLTON HESTON and..Will Smith?! I dont know I hope im wrong but if they just throw a whole lot of CGI and action at the screen I think we'll lose the story.Modern Hollywood's good at that.Like I say though,I hope im wrong.

I hope this new film version of 'I Am Legend'
will be somewhat worthwhile and be a bit close to the Matheson novel but I'm not counting on it.

RetroDystopia 4 years ago
Will Smith BETTER NOT f this one up like he did iRobot!

Want to BE the "Omega Man?" Simply go to the late show at any movie theater on a Monday Night preferably during football season.
By the way who sues you for putting this up: The Woodstock people or Chuck Heston?

I just found out that the song is called "Comin' Into Los Angeles" by America. Thanks greatly PanzerMort. Now we all know & can find it for our collections of the past & the smiles of our youth.

My childhood. This movie is my childhood. It had such an impact in the way it told the story. A lot of us were thinking it might come down to that very soon. It was the 1970s. It was a cult favorite, then and now.

I know the first of the pair of songs is by Country Joe & Fish, but does anyone know the second one and who sings it/what's it called? The movie makes me smile - the world is much more terrifying that this movie but still poignant symbolically even today.
dearartist 4 years ago
Maybe Ten Years After? I don't remember exactly, but thought it might be them. A hugely important scene in the movie.

The Arlo Gutherie song can be found under Woodstock here on YouTube if you want to see the scene from the movie yourself.

loved this movie when teen. saw it recently.very dated and silly.

No way! The premise of the movie is still very politically relevant today. It may be a bit over the top, but even without a disease to turn people in mind-warped zombies, whats the possibilities of some TV news anchor/dirty liberal, becomming a new Rev. Jim Jones!?! Think about it!

Classic scene. When I was a kid (25 years ago) this moment was cool.
Heston watching rocking soul music. Just to really realize whats really important. If we can't all live together and be happy.
If you have to be afraid to smile at somebody, right ?
What kind of way is that to go through this life ?
No, they sure don't make pictures like Omega Man anymore.
