I love how this song has changed over the years. the riffs and the piano part. 2001-2004 made it sound awesome, and I know some of yall have the Helsinki Finland 2003 live version of this song too. This performance is great as well. you can tell that they still want to play their music for us
@ChocolateSmith88 Yes, it has 7 strings. Manson originally built it for a jazz guitarist, but the guitarist changed his mind so Bellamy bought it. The original recording of Citizen Erased, though, was recorded using only a six-string guitar (presumably turned down).
@MagicHetero you are right although this paticular manson he uses in this song technically isnt 'his' model, it was built for a customer who ultimately didnt want the guitar in the end. matt happened to be on the hunt for a 7 stringed guitar and said yes to this straight away as he was desperate for one and also it sounds amazing :D
@MagicHetero he's used more then the destroyer: Fender Aloha Start., Gibson Les Paul DC Lite, Gibson SG, Emex Londaxe, Ibanez Iceman, just to name a few. Since BHR Tour he has started only using Mansons before that he used more.
I am a states muse fan. A true muse fan. And I really wish they played this over here more. I've seen them 4 times. I want this. And showbiz tracks too. I wish they bring those back eventually. Can't wait for Reading and Leeds vids!
@ExesForEyesMusic: Vox FX run through the sound system is what it sounds like. You can hear them before that too. Probably because his hands aren't free to cup the mic to give it that soundbox-esque sound.
since 2010 I kinda get the feeling that especially matt is returning to a very "Origin of Symmetry"-esque mood. way he plays, way he uses his voice. This very performance is so much like the hullabaloo version from 2001. The very new Muse to me have passed the Resistance era and they will keep experimenting with sound, mood, themes and ideas.

But, yeah, if I had it my way, Showbiz, Muscle Museum and Sunburn would be regulars =)
@RoLLWithITOasis1 But i feel that they would loose some respect from some fans if they ditch some of the old classics in favour of the new not as good stuff. I would rather go to a gig with a good mix of both old and new but not if the setlist is compketely made up of songs that are played at virtually every gig. If when i go to the wembley 11th gig and they have a good mix then id be happy.
Take out Guiding Light, Supermassive Black Hole, Starlight, Where the Streets Have No Name, and put in Butterflies and Hurricanes, Bliss, MK Ultra, Take a Bow, City of Delusion, Micro Cuts, Muscle Museum. Imo
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
By the way, just to point out a typo, probably already noticed, but you put "Plug In Naby" in the setlist instead of "Plug In Baby" sorry its just bugging me. And on the subject of Glastonbury 2010..it sucked.
@jkcheese Thank you, I will correct this mistake. About Glastonbury, I think this is one of their best performances in a long time. What is wrong with it ? Setlist ? Performance ?
@MuseLiveVideos Both to be honest. The performence was rather lazy, Muse can perform better, but they don't like they used to. Back when they *needed* to perform well they were so much better. And the setlist aswell, I hate The Resistance songs live, because they can't perform them that well. Not that i have a problem with the album but the songs are rubbish live, especially Uprising and Resistance. The also ignore the Showbiz era which is more annoying and they ignore the fans nowadays.
@jkcheese this is a festival show, not a muse concert. of course they're going to play songs from their most recent album, because there's a better chance of this more general audience to recognize them rather be like WTF. someone else commented on a glastonbury 2010 video saying they were glad muse didn't play exogenesis pt 1, because that is far too "out there" for this festival. if you're gonna shit on any newer songs, do it on Guiding Light (or possibly) USoE, not Uprising or Resistance.
@jkcheese i agree with you, they do ignore showbiz. and i would ignore showbiz too, four albums later.
they've always ignored fans to a certain extent. i met them in denver once, and they had an attitude about them. not necessarily egotistical, but certianly not humble. they were just sort of real. it would be difficult to take that onslaught of praise they get to heart. oh, my band changed your life? oh awesome, you're the 100th person in this line to tell me the exact same thing.
@MuseLiveVideos setlist! man, i saw them the other night, and like theyre amazing, greatest band ever, but they always seem to play the exact same songs.
I wouldn't say it sucked. But it was sure disappointing. Setlist was the same as arena shows with the exception of this song and the U2 cover. This gig would had been saved if they decided to play maybe Ruled By Secrecy, Sunburn, Dead Star even?? But they decided to play guiding light and feeling good. And compare this to Glasto 2004, this sucked alot more in comparison.
Sorry, this is probably pretty silly of me to say, but this comment is just a brilliant reply. So many people would be tempted to say 'WHATCHA SAY OMGOMG YOU NO TRUE MUSE FAN NOMNOM' but you obviously saw no point in an online hassle. Haha, just had to point that out. Thanks mate!
Oh yeah - This performance is brilliant. Love Origin of Symmetry all the way.
@YourGuardianEngel Matt's voice is shoddy nowadays..he relies on Chris quite abit if you notice and he's alot more lazy than he used to be with his performences espicially in singing.
@jkcheese I disagree with his voice being shoddy nowadays, he seems to have FAR more control over his voice if anything. I think Matt uses far less effects for his voice these days showing that he's more comfortable with just the natural sound of his voice. You're only noticing Chris more because of the years the mix has become more balanced and this is by the far the most complete performances of CE in my opinion as the musicianship, sound, vocal performances are just spot on!
@MattTrueLoveMusic He never used to use effects at all. Its actually nowadays for things especially The Resistance album you can notice they put alot of 'artificial' stuff in it. You can see this by the way they perform the songs from the album live. The album and the live versions are not nearly the same. Where as back in the day, Muse's live was better than the album version. I definatly think Citizen Erased is a keeper but they must put more aswell into there setlists and there performences.
@jkcheese One of the reasons they don't play old songs like Muscle Museum (from the showbiz era) is that matt lost the effects pedal for that song. "never used to use effects at all" uh-huh. sure.
@dekanbackward according to musewiki: "As of January 2010, Howard revealed on TripleJ radio, Australia, he'd like to play the song live again, however, due to Bellamy losing the required (rare) effects pedal for part of the song, it's been left out of rotation so far.
@dekanbackward i do agree that it's certainly within the realm of possibility, i just hope matt will be okay with it being less than perfect (in terms of its trueness to the original) & i'm pretty sure all this talk of pedals and effects was to show that showbiz era muse did have SOME use of effects, but yeah, you've got Matt, with RATM being his favorite band ever, he's extremely influenced by Tom Morello & his use of effects. To criticize him & his influences is well...idk, confusing to me ?
@jkcheese yeah, he does use a whole lot more effects now than he used to. but i'm a huge fan of that. but his voice is stronger now than it's ever been.
is it me or does he have a slight chorus to his vocals?

If you notice, his vocals have changed every 2 years:
1999-2000 he has a lighter voice, where his screams sounded like screeches
2001-2002 he improves his vocals a lot and applies some operatic vibrato
2003-2004 his voice changes a bit with a more maturer voice
2005-2006 his voice dosen't change much through these years
2007-2008 his vocals mature, dosen't have the same ability for the high vocals as he used to
2009-2010 he kind of has started changing his singing but he'still great

By the way, just to point out a typo, probably already noticed, but you put "Plug In Naby" in the setlist instead of "Plug In Baby" sorry its just bugging me. And on the subject of Glastonbury 2010..it sucked.
jkcheese 1 year ago
@jkcheese Thank you, I will correct this mistake. About Glastonbury, I think this is one of their best performances in a long time. What is wrong with it ? Setlist ? Performance ?
MuseLiveVideos 1 year ago 34
@MuseLiveVideos Both to be honest. The performence was rather lazy, Muse can perform better, but they don't like they used to. Back when they *needed* to perform well they were so much better. And the setlist aswell, I hate The Resistance songs live, because they can't perform them that well. Not that i have a problem with the album but the songs are rubbish live, especially Uprising and Resistance. The also ignore the Showbiz era which is more annoying and they ignore the fans nowadays.
jkcheese 1 year ago

@MuseLiveVideos Yeah, most of the setlist did suck.
JEA21B 1 year ago
@MuseLiveVideos setlist! man, i saw them the other night, and like theyre amazing, greatest band ever, but they always seem to play the exact same songs.
adamgergich96 1 year ago
@MuseLiveVideos
But hell i still love Muse :p

Sorry, this is probably pretty silly of me to say, but this comment is just a brilliant reply. So many people would be tempted to say 'WHATCHA SAY OMGOMG YOU NO TRUE MUSE FAN NOMNOM' but you obviously saw no point in an online hassle. Haha, just had to point that out. Thanks mate!
Oh yeah - This performance is brilliant. Love Origin of Symmetry all the way.

anyone who said anything in the earlier videos from this show about matt's voice being a tad shoddy needs to watch this and stfu
YourGuardianEngel 1 year ago
@YourGuardianEngel Matt's voice is shoddy nowadays..he relies on Chris quite abit if you notice and he's alot more lazy than he used to be with his performences espicially in singing.
jkcheese 1 year ago
@jkcheese I disagree with his voice being shoddy nowadays, he seems to have FAR more control over his voice if anything. I think Matt uses far less effects for his voice these days showing that he's more comfortable with just the natural sound of his voice. You're only noticing Chris more because of the years the mix has become more balanced and this is by the far the most complete performances of CE in my opinion as the musicianship, sound, vocal performances are just spot on!
MattTrueLoveMusic 1 year ago
@MattTrueLoveMusic He never used to use effects at all. Its actually nowadays for things especially The Resistance album you can notice they put alot of 'artificial' stuff in it. You can see this by the way they perform the songs from the album live. The album and the live versions are not nearly the same. Where as back in the day, Muse's live was better than the album version. I definatly think Citizen Erased is a keeper but they must put more aswell into there setlists and there performences.
jkcheese 1 year ago
@jkcheese One of the reasons they don't play old songs like Muscle Museum (from the showbiz era) is that matt lost the effects pedal for that song. "never used to use effects at all" uh-huh. sure.
YourGuardianEngel 1 year ago
@YourGuardianEngel he lost it? i'm pretty sure that's not why they don't play it. because it was a whammy. and he has like three on stage.
dekanbackward 1 year ago
@dekanbackward according to musewiki: "As of January 2010, Howard revealed on TripleJ radio, Australia, he'd like to play the song live again, however, due to Bellamy losing the required (rare) effects pedal for part of the song, it's been left out of rotation so far.
"
YourGuardianEngel 1 year ago
@YourGuardianEngel it's a whammy, and a line 6 space echo. i can't imagine what that's refering to.

@YourGuardianEngel i stand corrected. but i feel like if these guys can do it, muse can. /watch?v=4b48apECGBw
dekanbackward 1 year ago
@dekanbackward i do agree that it's certainly within the realm of possibility, i just hope matt will be okay with it being less than perfect (in terms of its trueness to the original) & i'm pretty sure all this talk of pedals and effects was to show that showbiz era muse did have SOME use of effects, but yeah, you've got Matt, with RATM being his favorite band ever, he's extremely influenced by Tom Morello & his use of effects. To criticize him & his influences is well...idk, confusing to me ?
YourGuardianEngel 1 year ago
@YourGuardianEngel i don't understand why someone would be against effects in the first place. i've never understood that argument.
dekanbackward 1 year ago
@jkcheese yeah, he does use a whole lot more effects now than he used to. but i'm a huge fan of that. but his voice is stronger now than it's ever been.
