Trial and error really. I was getting tired of my hair being flat from when I'd pull it back to keep it out of my face while doing my makeup. One day I decided to push it forward instead of just pulling it straight back like normal and when I took it down after I finished my makeup, my hair had so much sbounce it was ridiculous, lol. :)

yeah dude, back in the olden days that was the only way people COULD straighten their hair. but sometimes if the iron was too hot or they left it on too long they'd actually burn their hair off.

i have thick hair just like yours and i love it straight! Instead of using a hair straightener or a curling iron i use a clothes iron. You hold a towel under your hair while you are ironing the top, and straighten all of your hair at once instead of in peices or layers. It works really well! Usually after i use a hair straightener to touch it up.

I straighten my hair, and to not have to look flat, is blow dry your hair upside down. Also when you straight it, straighten up, not down. I also use Garnier volume and body spray. It's in a round small bottle, and you spray it in your hair while it's wet then run your brush through it to put it all over your hair. Then when I'm done, I bend over and lightly spray hair spray on my hair to keep the volume, but not weigh it down.

Hey girl, try the Matrix All Weather Hairspray.  It's a finishing spray that isn't hard and it helps it from becoming frizzy or wavy especially in humid areas like you're in!

Ya' this stuff is great for that! In Connecticut, we get weather like that sometimes in the summer time. It gets over 90º degrees and when it rains...omg my hair hates me lol. I found this hairspray and never went back! If you can't find it where you are, let me know and I'll pick some up for you and send it!

Well, it helps that I don't wash my hair every day. I only wash it every other day. As for products, I use a different array of shampoos and conditioners...right now I'm using Nutrisse Garnier Sleek & Shine shampoo & Conditioner. Before blowdrying my hair, I spray on some Infusium 23 leave-in treatment, and sometimes I'll put a dab of Sunsilk Hydra TLC throughout my hair after brushing it out but before blowdrying it.
