  • Great stuff Dave! I'm just starting out and my strumming isn't so great, any suggestions?

  • @DawgPound86 Practice, practice, practice! Thats really all I can tell ya, I just get a feel for it and go with it.

  • @americanrides Thanks, you make it look so simple lol

  • @DawgPound86 Ya, I watch James Taylors hands and can't believe how easy he makes it look. Its just practicing until you don't even have to think about it.

    Dave

  • @DawgPound86 keep listening to the origanal n try to emulate. i found it came natural to me

  • Dude, do a favor for your lungs...

  • @6strings59 LOL, thanks man, I know I need to quit soon, or else.....

  • hey man - loving your work..

  • '63 Gibson?

  • @busby2 No, actually its a Yamaha, I don't know how old it is but I got it from my cousin about 33 years ago. Never been in the shop, stays in tune really well, I love it! I did just buy another Yamaha 6 string electric/acoustic for playing out. Thanks man! Dave

  • Brilliant, just brilliant, man, Why arent you famous?

  • @YooMaTTo Thanks bro! You know why I'm not famous? I partied my ass off instead of school, I never had the luck factor and never applied myself in my youth. So, if you happen to be young, all I can say is, get as much schooling as you can and network with as many musicians as you can. The most important thing is, ALWAYS find people to jam with who are better than you. The others cannot teach you anything, make sense? Thanks again for writing, and please check out some of my other stuff!

  • Fantastic job!

  • nice man except did you say brothers to blame? it should be buggers.

  • Thanks bro! Ya man, I have heard the song thousands of times, ya think I could get it right!!?? I might just re do the whole video.

    Thanks man!

    Dave the guitar guy

  • What is the strumming pattern?

  • Thanks for writing justkevy,

To be honest, I cannot read music, everything I do is from ear and watching musicians hands very closely. People always ask about strumming patterns, but I don't know how to explain it, I just try to do what the artist is doing. I'm probably wrong half the time anyway. Wish I could be of more help!

    Take care,

    Dave

  • try a7

  • A7th at what part of the song?

  • dammit i hate how you call it "simple" its so hard for me! :P

  • There are a few little finger movements in there that can be tricky. But, hey, I can't bake cookies!! So we are even!! LOL

    Thanks man,

    Dave

  • what is the note you played at 1:39? the one in the middle of c and a minor

  • Howdy, that is what I refer to as "walking down" from one chord to another. This scecific chord is E min 7th. You mute the low E string with your thumb, 1st finger on the A string, second fret, the 3rd finger on the B string 3rd fret. Hope that helps!!!

    Thanks for writing!

    Dave

  • wrong

  • I'm stil looking for your version.............

  • super, good job, good singer, and good teatcher, thanks, i like yours vidéos, and pink floyd .

  • Thanks for the feedback Indy, I appreciate you taking the time!! Thanks,

    Dave

  • Hi Dave I am in the beginnings of the beginnings of the world of acoustic guitar, and I can assure you that this video is a GREAT help! I look forward to checking your other stuff out! Thanks a lot!

  • Thats awesome man! Good luck and don't get discouraged, it takes a while, but the pay off is huge! I have a video on major chords only that you may want to check out.

    Thanks again!!!

    Dave

  • great job brudduh :) keep up the good work

  • Thanks bro! Have a great one!!

    Dave

  • ciggarette+guitar= MAD RELAXING COMBO

    Dave

  • I love it! Whatever gets ya motivated.... or not..LOL

    Thanks man!

    Dave

  • cheers for that big D

  • Right on! Thanks man!!!

    Dave

  • Thanks Dave great lesson, very helpful. Oh BTW - It's buggers to blame.

  • I’m a beginner I’ve been playing for a couple months now and i really like this song. i have the beginning part down, but I don’t really get how you do the part when you start singing " if you didn’t car" I would really appreciate it if you could tell me I little more about how to do that.

  • Not sure what you mean. When he starts singing, he goes to a C maj. chord. Hope that helps!

  • im just not sure what you meen by switching to Cmaj. do i play the same thing exept replacing the G chord with C ?

  • When I begin, I am simply switching between a G maj. and a C maj. by only moving two fingers. When the singing begins, switch to a full C maj. chord, then, add a pinky to the D string, on the 4th fret, on and off. Make any sense?? :)

    Take care, Dave

  • thanks

  • thanks for the lesson Dave! you make it seem so simple!

    PEACE!

  • Thanks Snafu,

I don't know if you are a beginner or not, but, really just playing ALL the time and loving it, brings you everyday closer to not having to think about switching chords and chord patterns, it will come naturally. Then my friend, you can play literally any song, break it down for an acoustic version!

    Take care,

    Dave

  • awesome man,

    thanks for the help

    rock on dave!

  • awesome man,

    thanks for the help

  • oh man, this is NOT a song for beginners.... at all.... anyway, you're just great... i also appreciated your work about floyd's "mother"... i like em so much ! you're really good and do your best, but i wish you could come here in italy and teach me !!! for now, keep up the good work and POST SOME MORE STUFF PLEASE!!!!!

    PS : (what's about some simon & garfunkel songs ?!? that'll be real challenge =) !!!! )

    Andrea

  • Well Andrea, send me a plane ticket and I will give you personal lessons!!! LOL

Really, how long have you been playing? Is there any way I can help you more? You can write me personally and I will answer ANY questions about the music. I have 14 videos up, check out my version of Breathe by Floyd, sounds great on an acoustic! Thanks for the nice comments, I dig it! Thanks again, Dave the guitar guy

  • @americanrides

I began playing on Xmas holidays... but I would need some strumming pattern lessons..I just can't figure it out.. you know, i'm a self-taught, and it's not easy, at the beginning.. I keep searching the utube, but everyone talks in english, and, even if I'm quite good, that is a "double effort".. (know what I mean ? Understanding and playing) anyway, what I'm trying to tell you is: I need strumming technique lessons!!!! I only go DOWNDOWNDOWN and it's quite boring after a while =)

  • its buggers not brothers

  • Ya, thanks. I've been told several times now. I did not know the English meaning of it before! Thanks for clearing that up for me! Take care man!

    Dave

  • great lesson, and your voice is just perfect for this song :)

  • @Nathantjee Thank you very much!!! Dave

  • Thank you very much, sir.

  • Not a problem Paul, rock on my friend! Dave

  • Wonderful video, Dave. Thanks for this.

  • No problem! Thank you!!! Dave

  • I like this dude. Actually made me remember how much I love this song and record it myself, its in my videos if anyone cares to look :)

Fantastic acoustic song, so unappreciated by so many!

  • Thanks dude! I will check yours out now!!!

    Take it easy,

    Dave

  • Good cover, check out my lesson tell me what you think

  • Thanks man! I will check it out now! Dave

  • Simple and easy to understand!

    thank you guitar guy! Greetings!

  • Thank you! Happy New Year!! Dave

  • i learned it but i wasnt a hit on the camp.. actually they hit me :( fucking fuckers

  • Damn, I hope you hit them back!!! LOL

  • haha youll be a hit arond the camp fire!

  • Well, I used to be, that used to be our favorite pastime, when I was single and drinking lots of beers...lol Take care, Dave

  • Cheers Dave, never got that quite right until now.Its funny about that whole bugger word here in England,it's a big insult to call someone a buggerer,or a mild swear word, say if you dropped something, you might say "Oh! bugger",and nobody would bat an eyelid!

  • Gotcha! Never heard the term before, I like it! Dave

  • You offer a good way to approach this song, Dave, but playing it precisely according to the album requires the full G to C-chord transition (frets: 330023 - 01023X, high-to-low strings). This means more motion for the fretting hand - less fretboard anchoring - but makes the sound prettier. I hope this is beneficial. Willing to offer more detail.

  • Thanks man, I appreciate it!!! Dave

  • Hey man this has always been one of the Pink Floyd songs I've been dying to learn but could never figure out how until i saw this video thanks a lot I think you're an amazing guitar teacher.

  • Glad I could help!! Check out some of my other Floyd stuff at dave the guitar guy, or americanrides. Thanks again, love the feedback! Dave

  • Hey there, it's really simple as you say but since I'm originally a classical guitar player who's started learning rhythm guitar on his own recently (nearly all the classical gtr teachers somehow tend to dislike other techniques, so I had to, haha), I love watching videos like this for inspiration (which I've found here), so all I want to say was... thanks, Dave!

    Good luck, Jan

  • Thank you Jan, I appreciate the positive feedback! Take care, Dave

  • What are the chords at 1:39?

  • OK, what I am doing is "walking" down from a C major chord to an A min. So, play the C chord, then, move your second finger to the second fret on the A string (or second fattest string) that is a B note. With your pinky, at the same time your doing the B note, put the pinky on the B string, 3rd fret, which is a D note. So, in summary, you are playing a C chord, then, what I described, then an A minor chord. I hope that makes sense, if not, PLEASE let me know! Thanks for writing, Dave

  • Yes, it is buggers to blame. Must be a British term, sorry!!!! Dave

  • hi dave yes buggers is a british term ,im scottish my self, the word is an insult but it refers to a sexual act like buggering sheep or a person .just in case you wanted to know cheers

  • Oh, cool! Now I can insult my people without them knowing!!! Thanks! Dave

  • you keep missing out the f though you played an f and was mentioned in the annotations....fuck how anal retentive am i lol......excellent choice to get people playing floyd you did awesome and the teaching method was very thoughtful aswell thank you

  • The only F chord is at the "brothers to blame part" I do play it, kinda looks like a C from here, but its and F. F is played twice in that little spot. Don't worry, I suffer from anality too....lol See ya, Dave

  • i always thought floyd sang "buggers to blame" as opposed to "brothers to blame"..ill have to look that up now....keep up the great work... awesome ..

  • You know, I think you are right. I listened closely and that is what it appears to be. Sorry!!!! Dave

  • yeah im sure it is buggers cos that fits with the concept behind the animals album...all the best from scotland big dave

  • It's definitely Buggers... It's a very big insult in England... Opposing army into sodomy or something of the sort... I can see why they're to blame...

  • bugers... not brothers

  • Yep. you are correct!!! Thanks, Dave

  • yo are no david gilmour. but your good. its a nice vid.

  • If I was Dave Gilmoure, would I be teaching guitar to beginners?

  • LOL!!!

  • Dave

Thanks for this, love your stuff, but any chance of you putting the actual chord progression on the site? I find it hard to see your hands

    Thanks again

    tim

  • Hope this helps Tim, I put annotations up, so, you can tell what chords I'm playing. Take care, Dave

  • Thanks Dave, fantastic

    Love your work!!!

  • I'm glad you enjoyed it!!! Don't forget to check some of the other videos!!!

    Happy Memorial Day!! Dave

  • No, actually it is a 1974 Yamaha, I have had it for about 31 years. It was my cousins and he gave it to me. My first guitar, been through many since, but, I like it's sound the best. The Supertramp song I did, on the Washburn 12 string, that was only about 300.00 bucks 6 years ago. Take care, Dave

  • Hey Dave! what brand of guitar are you playing is it a Martin?

  • that was sweet Dave, Keep posting these vids You really do a great job. I enjoyed all your vids. That supertramp song was a nice touch

  • Well thank you, that was very nice of you to say! I really like the feedback, that's why I do this, to help others! Thanks again man, take care, Dave

  • v good dave

  • Thank you my friend! Take care and have a Happy Easter!

    Dave

  • Maybe next time I will throw some fancy stuff in there for ya so the song will be unrecognizeable, and, dishonor the original artist. What a dufus you are buddy.

  • david you suck fuck regular a and b bitch

  • I would love to hear your version. This site is for beginners, so, if you think you are "dimebag" Daryll, I suggest you find a better instructor. Have a great day! Dave

  • Hey! Great video! Helps a lot. When I learn it better I'll post a video response!

16 Year old Pink Floyd Fan :)

Thank god I was raised on this stuff.

  • I am thankful you did too! The crap they throw out there for younger listeners now is terrible! Thanks for the comment and rock on! Dave

  • theres an F chord too, after the A minor during 'wondering, which of the buggars to blame'

  • Ya, thanks man, I screwed that up completely! If you look back a page on the comment section, I do admit my foolish mistake. (One of my first videos, please excuse me!) Thanks for pointing that out though, it will be helpful to others!!! Thanks again dude, have an awesome day!! Dave

  • nice job! now i try play this song

  • How's it going? Did you get it down? Thanks for commenting!!! Dave

  • How does the strumming go in this song? :/

  • Man, I'm sorry, but I don't even know how to explain strumming. I just keep listening to the song until I think I've got it. Thanks man! Dave

  • nice video Dave, I'm a big Floyd fan too...do you know how to play Fat Old Sun??

  • Uh Oh! Maybe I'm not as big of a fan as I thought, I have never heard it. I will check it out and see what I can see, OK? Thanks man!!!! Dave

  • It's on Atom Heart Mother. Very underrated Floyd album. Check out If as well. Wonderful acoustic song.

Keep up the good work Dave. You are a terrific teacher.

  • That was fantastic. You should change your last name to Gilmore. I'm a fan of the Floyd

for over 30 years. I cannot stop hearing them.

  • Very cool compliment! Thanks you and Happy New Year!! Dave the guitar guy

  • Maybe it's because I'm new.. but I can't see your fingers too well. But I'm assuming it's a regular open G followed by an open C. It looks as though you're using your pinky on the C though, so that throws me a little. The rest I think I got.. it's just that pinky on C. When I play it with the G on the high E string covered it sounds messed up. All well. Thanks!

  • Yes, I am throwing my pinky on the 3rd fret on the 3rd string (D string) you will hear and feel when you are supposed to add that. Anything else I can help with, PLEASE feel free to ask!!! Thanks man! Dave the guitar guy

  • u r the guy peace out lol cheers mte

  • Thank you! Merry Christmas!!! Dave

  • be carefull wiht the tempo please

  • What is the chord change around "wondering which of the buggers to blame" to "and watching"? I see AM to ? back to AM to ? again, then to ? and ? in which succession, and back to AM. HELP!

  • At the point where he sings which of the buggers, thats an F major chord. I know, I forgot to mention it in the beginning, sorry! But, ya, he switches between A min and F maj. And at the end, "and watching" is a D major chord. Play the D maj then add your pinky to the high E string on the third fret. Hope that helps! Any other questions, feel free to ask! Thanks, dave the guitar guy

  • Terrific. One more question (sorry): right before "watching" you do a quick succession of three chords. It seems to be AM => ? (very short) => ? and then to D. Sorry - I'm a beginner!

  • Right before "watching" I think you mean when I "walk" down starting on a C chord. In the C position, use your third finger which will be on the A string, 3rd fret, "walk" down with 3rd finger to the second fret still on the A string then play the A minor. If thats not what your talking about, PLEASE write back. Thats why I'm here!!! It is my mission to help, no question is stupid or bugs me, I promise!!! Thanks for listening! Dave

  • great job, thanks alot!

  • No problem!!!

  • Cheers, that's helpful. Great videos, by the way.

  • Very useful as always. It's a shame I haven't seen all your videos yet. I'll have to fix that!

It's weird that only a few people have seen your videos. They should really come here and see what a nice guy you are.

By the way could you tell me please what acoustic guitar is that you've got there?

    Cheers, Paul.

  • I like your cover! The sound and the pace and that little riff at the end is great. I put one up a few days ago, but I didn't teach it like you did. Good stuff!

  • Thank you very much! It's great to be appreciated! I am going to post some stuff off of the Wall album soon, my second favorite all time album :) I am going to your site now to check it out, thanks again! dave the guitar guy
