Dear Lord...may you please help this poor little soul..please bless him and find a cure for his illness..we ask this of you in the name of Jesus Christ..our Lord and Savior
Hello.. I have not read every single post here so forgive me if this question has already been answered. Does he qualify for CPAP? My daughter is has also had numerous cranio facial reconstructive surgeries and we also considered the mid-face foward at one point, but she uses the CPAP for now and it has made 100% difference! She used to sleep exactly like THAT! She also had her tonsils out but not the adnoids sue to bone structure. Did he have the face foward done yet?

Hm. it sounds like his lungs might be filling up with mucus, you might wanna sit him up straight, that way, his lungs arent compressed, rather they fall back to their natural position, that might help.
Hi, I am very afraid now, my son has started in December and took him to his pediatrician and he said he was congested and a little bit of wheezing, so we got an inhaler and it help a little but its been almost 2 months and he is still suffering from this, he stops breathing for about 4 to 5 seconds now and ithe inhaler medicine is not longer helping, I can;t wait for morning to come to schedule an appointment with a specialist. How are you doing now? how is your son?
I should update. My son had his palate closed after having his tonsils removed. His breathing did temp improve, but he is again having difficulty. Sleep study last week and cardiology referral from his pulmunologist. Plastic surgeon is referring him to a more experience craniofacial team for some major surgery to bring his midface forward which will open his airway. He is on medication for sinus congestion, but it is very complex. Just the slightest change causes him major problems.
@dolphinsdive Was his sleep apnea caused by his cleft lip and palate? I have a bilateral cleft lip and palate and have been having some severe sleeping problems and would like to know.
The condition itself may not seem so terrible but how it affects the cardiorespiratory system in response to several months of such insult is where the problem lies. Thankfully, there is treatment out there, thousands of scientists worldwide are looking at ways to combat it and progress in our understanding of sleep apnea is being made everyday!
If the docs can just open up his upper airways his young body will COMPLETELY RECOVER from this condition! I wish the young lad all the best!
Ooh, I don't like the sound of his breathing. I hope the surgeons can help open his nostril in the future. It seems like he's tryiing strictly to breath through his nose rather than his mouth?
my sons breathing and sleeping pattern mirrors this video- until he had gromits inserted and mucus drained from inside his ear. My sons ear canals are very small- a hereditary trait. He still has the problem of difficult with breathing, stopping breathing, gasping for breath, and snoring. The surgeon didn't remove his adenoids and tonsils as planned- but his problem isn't as severe now. I feel for you all
He has had overnight sleep studys and seen many specialist. CPAP is not an option for him at 2 years old. Tonsils and adenoids are not an issue with his palate wide open and never having any infections or swelling... Doctors also strongly recommend children with cleft palate keep their adenoids for speech reason. Top recommendation at this point is a temp trach.
Why don't they get an overnight sleep study on him. If it is obstructive sleep apnea, they can get him on CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine that blows positive airpressure that hold open his airway. Alot of times it is due to large tonsils and adenoids, which helps the problems if they are removed. OSA is very common and under treated.
I pushed hard for his nostril to be opened, but that too is not an option. Any work to his nose will be delayed until his face develops more. Doing something now would cause more scar tissue and more problems for him long term.
Maybe like mine as he grows his jaw will widen and adenoids and tonsils shrink will solve the problem fingers and toes crossed for peaceful nap time in days and nights for you lil one :)
poor kid i feel so bad for him he probly has alot of other problems i hope he lives a goood happy life

Poor little guy.
They thought I had it too because I have a cleft lip and palate.
It's very hard to have a cleft lip and palate.
Very hard.
