  • Robert Johnson didn't sell his soul to the devil in Clarksdale, but it's a good place for the devil to hang out. And it's funny how 2 churchs are arguing over whether Robert Johnson is buried in their cemetary or not. Notice 2 grave sites?Sold his soul to the devil and both chucrhs want him in their cemetary.

  • Greenville, Mississippi the unofficial capital of the Mississippi Delta

  • Nice job.

  • Thank you!) I cant find anything regarding this song, have no clue who sings it and if it is available in MP3, if someone knows, please let me know! The song is Amazing!

  • Guys... who Exactly singing this song? And which album I can find it at?... Please let me know. I'm just in love with this performance!

  • It was a song available via Youtube audio-swap when YT killed the Robert Johnson track originally used on this video creation. I believe The original Aberdeen Mississippi Blues was by Bukka White but this track is different.

  • this music takes me back to the very first south state blues with the black people. wow it's just amazing, can't explain it in words! wow

  • It is very spooky to drive near "The Crossroads" I didn't want to do it...so we turned around and went the other way...it just felt "evil"...Can't explain it.

  • it's because of all the slavery, and shit ! the pain will always remain there ;(

    fuck racism

  • dont worry its just a metaphor for drugs

  • @youngatheart77 rily ? at nignt i bet it look spooky huh . interesting story . :)

  • Nice slide show. 1:00 and 3:26 exactly how I imagined Mississippi.

  • That's a hell of a tribute, Quinoacat, and in more ways than one! The Robert Johnson soul-selling legend it helps illuminate is fascinating too, reminding me of another Southern song I love: "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" by the Charlie Daniels Band.

  • great song, excellent blues history, but us hoochie coochie men know this stuff, its in our souls!(if we ever get them back!)

  • It is rumored RJ prayed for his back as he was dying from the poisoning. His family produced a note they claimed in his handwriting where he stated he knew Jesus would call him from the grave.

  • no he didn't you just made that up

  • lol, I did not 'make that up'. The family actually did make that claim, whether it is true or not; it is documented and, if you wish , I shall happily provide you with that info and it's sources. Before you accuse someone of fabrication you should ask for sources rather than make unfounded accusations.

  • well it's the kind of stupid thing that people tend to make up about Robert Johnson, I highly doubt his family would know that seeing as the actual factual information known about him is in his recording dates, records, sales figures and through recolections of elderly people who probably had not even given robert johnson much thought in the 20 odd years of obscurity after his death and were prepared to say any malarkey for the right price. Always remain sceptical, especially on this subject.

  • I know people make up stuff about RJ all the time to exploit his name for money. Fake pictures are found of him on ebay and he has more than one gravestone that claims he is buried beneath them. I am very skeptical about all the RJ claims. But my statement was that it was a RUMOR and NOT a Fact. You accused me of lying about a rumor that really exists. My semantics were correct and your accusation misinterpreted my meaning. No harm No foul, ok?

  • There is little, except for recently, that recounts any such thing. If it was on his deathbed that these things were done, I'd call it insanity. Strychnine causes hallucinations, and pneumonia is no tea party. The old accounts say quite the opposite, that he was howling like a dog when he died. So you see it is likely pure rumor that MAY have been started by his OWN MOTHER. Robert himself loved to tell stories. He could have learned HOW to tell a fable from his MOM.

  • One last thing. At 6:07 in the video is a picture of the Gravestone I referenced with my response to bluespower about the 'RUMOR'. Your reply made me laugh because if you had watched the video and paid attention you could not logically have accused ME of starting the rumor.

  • Alan Lomax interviews his mother in his book The Land Where the Blues Began. Before he died, he told his mother that he was "Gods son now." Also according to his mother, he not only converted, he said that his guitar was the devils insturment.

  • I would be very weary of anything which Alan Lomax said, i'd believe it if there was a recording of the interview. The lomaxes tended to record everything they could.

  • Lomax won the National Book Critics Circle Award and the Ralph J. Gleason Music Book Award in 1993 for his book The Land Where the Blues Began, the story of the origins of Blues music. Lomax also received a posthumous Grammy Trustees Award for his lifetime achievements in 2003. Why do you doubt his credibility so much?

  • Extremely exploitative, look at leadbelly for example. Theres a video news report of leadbelly if you search for it on here should make it a little clearer

  • The video you mention only hints at it compared to other info I discovered on Lomax's exploitation of the Blues. One document cites his rights to remixes of songs making him more money than the Original artists ever made off their own songs. I will be researching him more as he appears to be a controversial can of worms. Thanks for the tip.
