why is so hard to realised, that it is not a mix of few composers (even Chausson, Debussy, Bartók), but it is real and independent genius - Karol Szymanowski?
It is very funny that people are still trying to high brow like it is just a coincidence that she has a nice rack. Suddenly all the greatest female violinists have great bodies - funny that. Admit it classical music lovers are just as shallow as everyone else on the planet.
@kzt333 No I am saying that Classical music and those that buy it are just as crass when it comes to sex as the rest of the music industry. Bond are naked on their album cover and that even tops Lady Gaga in the like are bodies buy our records and you are just that little bit closer to having sex with us stakes. I just find it funny that middles aged lawyers are just as pathetic as 15 year old boys when it comes to a pair of tits on a musician.
I am not a lawyer and most defintiely middle aged but while I can perceive beauty and appreciate it when I see it I can also admire excellent musicianship. Yes of course there is a difference between Vengerov and Bell, Argerich and Landowska, Pogolerich and Bishop Kovakevich! The list is endless.
Sex sells but do not hold that against Ms Benedetti please
@kzt333 No of course I don't hold her beauty against her but I do feel a little sorry that the door has now fully closed for less attractive musically gifted women even in classical music. I also find it a little funny that the superior attitude of classical music fans goes out the windows when you have more naked chicks on your album covers than Rock music in the 70's.
I think that Szymanowski's music is very challenging for the listener. It has many influences--the lyricism of a Chausson, the perfume of a Debussy, the harsh realities of a Bartok. It is troubled and troubling music. But so well worth one's time.
Many thanks for uploading this marvelous interpretation.
This violin concerto of Szymanowski has roots in the music of the Tatra region - Zakopane, Poland. The concerto is certainly challenging but Nicola's interpretation is fantastic. She is playing with a strong hand, as it should be played, in my opinion. Super!
She is so beautiful, musically-gifted, and dare I say it--sexy. She will give, if she hasn't already, Sarah Chang and Hilary Hahn a run for their money.
If this is a "young musician"performance it's amazingly good. Not just fine playing but also fine "feeling" very difficult to catch in this elusive masterpiece, which, IMO, has always been best interpreted by women! The orchestra, proficient tho a bit stiff & unmagical prevents the extatic phrases from soaring even higher. I tried not to look & be too influenced, but truly she has an unusual beauty & hypnotic presence.
The mystical and haunting - truly magnificent - atmosphere of Szymanowski's beloved Tatra mountains is pervasive in this concerto. Who knows the mountains cannot disagree, I think.
very good performance and yes :the composer is underrated ,he is one of the truly great ones of the 20th century.I am sure he will eventually be recognized for what he is:a genius!
It's a 24 minute piece with no breaks. You can only upload 10 minutes so unfortunately it has to be cut somewhere. I spent AGES trying to decide on this.
I saw the new girl Milica Ilic on the BBC the other night and she was playing the Cavatina from the Deer Hunter and Evie's Song? Mesmerising. Keep up the good work Nicola, we love you.
Thank you for posting. I am a fan of the violinist Regina Carter however it is wonderful seeing so many young people with the talent too. Thank you for sending chills up my spine!
That's utter crap, she is gorgeous and like Katherine, Milica, Natasha and Hayley is destined for the stars. They happen to have the looks, and the talent.
Not a big powerful sound but it's sweet and mesmerizing I like it. Good if she makes ugly faces she's focused on making music not being pretty. She is workin that dress to full effect though and there is nothing wrong with that either!!!!
yeah... Szymanowski is extremely difficult. this is an excellent performance, thank you for sharing it. i wish someone would upload his second violin concerto, i like it more!
To hpwratvr18. This is not the Proms. It's from "The Young Musician of the Year". I don't know if you can buy the Proms on DVD but it is shown on BBC4 and BBC2 in England.
Thank you so, so much for uploading this video!! You made my day on June 16th! Nicola Benedetti is such an amazing violinist. So you think that this wonderful playing is merely due to Miss Benedetti being what PG Wodehouse would have referred to as a 'corker'????
