i think kanye west is pretty gay. Some of his music is ok but the rest is just lame. He's trying to be something he's not and that's a producer. Should leave that stuff to the people that know what they are doing.

Buddy you really don't know what you're talking about. Kanye's use of the 808 on his newest album shows exactly why he's a genius. The guy is as good as they come. The difference is timbaland has more experience and is the one who's trying to rectify kanye's vision of the mix. That's the whole point of producing, he's got to say what can and can't be done sonically when kanye gets caught up in the moment.
The problem with these records is there's not a musician within 25 miles of these studios ( a mini syth triggering drum samples doesnt count) Put real musicians in that studio. Get ideas happening from 5 or 6 musicians & the quality will go through the roof. The machines are good for notepads. Then bring in real musicians to give it soul, a vibe

I used to feel that way. I still kind of feel that way but its not practical. Most rappers probably dont actually understand the music and if you listen the music is computerized and that is the genre. I feel like changing mainstream hiphop would be like making fusion jazz...it kind sounds like jazz but isnt at all jazz. There really aren't anymore famous songs made from scratch these days. That goes for rap anyways. Whether you know it or not or even like it. A lof of rap today has samples, ideas, something in some form or way from older songs. Especially the blues and funk error.

I disagree with the part about a drummer. A drummer can have as much part in production as any. Basic examples: Neil Peart from RUSH, Carter Beauford of Dave Mathews. Lookem up. soak knowledge. far as I'm concerned. Timbo, Kanye, Premier, blaze etc,an all other drum programers/producer are drummers in their own right without the physical talent. There are many Types of producers, sum more talented and or involved than others.Some dont have any musical skill besides jus knowing what sounds good.
Just to add on to your comment. Look at someone like Diddy who doesn't even make beats, he's renowned as a world class producer just because he has the ear to know what sounds good without having to put in the physical programming of it
A drummer is a member of a band, and only takes part in 1 aspect of the recording. An instrumental producer makes the entire composition of the music being heard, except for the vocals. Therefore, just as a record producer, the instrumental producer has the sound that he wants. He oversees pre production, but does everything himself, he also is responisible for the mixdown of his instrumental, so he takes part in the audio engineering process as well. An instrumental producer is a producer.
I agree for the most part. He has to know how every instrument is played and supposed to sound and beyond that. outside the box aswell. I disagree with outside the vocals. sometimes I'll have a chorus written out and will have a singer come into record it. Also you have to well versed in what sounds good and what doesnt as far as choosing artist goes. A producer takes part in all. least in mastering. though some choose to be present and/or take part in finalizing.
A beat maker is a producer too. They specialize in PRE production. That is where the beat is made. Yes, beat makers are also musicians, and YES you do not have to be a musician to be a PRODUCER. But beat makers are just a diiferent kind of MUSIC PRODUCER. They PRODUCE the instrumental only. PRODUCING an instrumental, is still MUSIC PRODUCTION. Therefore a beat maker is also a PRODUCER.

Of course no one can touch his body of work cause he is a founding father of hip hop/ hip rock. But as far as staying relavent to whats going on timbaland is the best hands down. timbaland, polow da don,soul diggaz and a list of others keep hip hop going today. I wouldnt say every Producer samples, but alot of them do it. Some sample just to see if they can do it, but never put them out and others sample to much. Be original and maybe one day some one will sample them.

His brain processes music in a certain way, so that no matter what he does, it sounds like HIS style. Ppl have said that about my beats too, and I produce many genres of music. thats only because most or all of the people he work with are rappers. dre doesnt do rnb or pop beats because "he cant." its because the majority of the artist that come to him are rappers. dre's beats make people famous, bottom line. only reason 50's album is gonna do well is because of dre's beats. only reason 50 sold 10,000,000+ was because of dre's beats. the reason eminem is so successful besides his rhymes is because of Dres beats. tim doesnt suck he really doesnt. but Dre > Tim. eat it.

You have lost ya damn mind chief. Dre is mos def a pioneer of producing, but Timbo is an evolution. His resume is ridiculously long and diverse. Every good artist, musician, composer, producer has their own distinct sound that makes them recognizable. Dre elevated hip hop no doubt, but Timbo crosses genres on multiple occasions and succeeds at it consistently. Not to mention he figures out how to go from A to D without going through B and C...the true mark of genius..Do YO research my nig

research? hell, 90% of the so called "greatest rappers alive" with the crowned #1 himself Jay-Z already co-signed that if they had to pick 1 producer to work with, itd be dr. dre. Timbaland is a overrated over priced producer. as i stated like 3-4 weeks ago to somebody else, only reason timbaland is much diverse than dre is because most of dre's clients are rappers, NOT because thats the ONLY area of music he can produce in.

I wouldnt say every Producer samples, but alot of them do it. Some sample just to see if they can do it, but never put them out and others sample to much. Be original and maybe one day some one will sample them.

I agree. It doesn't matter what beat Timbaland makes, it doesn't matter what genre, you can tell that Timbaland made the beat. His brain processes music in a certain way, so that no matter what he does, it sounds like HIS style. Ppl have said that about my beats too, and I produce many genres of music. I don't claim to be a Timbaland though! I have a loong way to go to get there! :)

most ppl don't understand that a producer is not just a beat maker any1 with a keyboard/computer/drum machine can make a beat but a producer brings out of an artist/song what other ppl can't hear or an artist didn't even know was inside them. many kids 2day are beat makers but don't know the first thing about production its like a t.v show/movie/play u need sum1 who can produce a project entirely dre, timbo, are sum of the best if not the best ever in the rap/rb/pop game quincy jones is a genius

people who make beats are not necessarily producers. making beats don't even need to be the producers job. get yo facts straight. producers overlook the whole outcome of a song or album, whether it be selecting a good beat for the track to picking the right mics to picking the sound engineer, whatever it takes for that track to sound great.

Yup, you got it right. Co produced and produced are different things ppl. Timbaland and Danja collab on beats all the time. Danja also got his own produced tracks that Timbaland doesnt "steal" credit for...buy albums and look at the liner notes. All this misinformation is from people making assumptions on the net and claiming Timbaland produced when he didnt even say himself!!

go to co produced just means he also helped produce the record but there is a difference between beat making and producing danja does make all of the beats and timbaland produces him just so he can get the credit. but timbaland does make some beats but all his new shit has been danja. sorta like dr.dre doesnt make all the beats sometimes mel-man or dj khalil make the beat and dre just produces it. get yo facts str8. and timbo is deffinently not da king
