I've had over 100 IV's, impossible to get a vein now. Also, my veins roll.
They start by letting a nurses assistant try even when I tell them they need a pro!
Well, after the assistant blows out 2 or 3 sometimes 4 veins, they bring in the pro, the pro usually blows out 1 or 2 before they get it and in some cases they have to get the Doctors ok to go in at my foot or ankle!
Just think, I came here to check out your Nova project and saw this to reply too! hah.
Hey! you looked dramatically concentrated and the procedure took almost forever. It was as if you were performing some posterolateral thoracotomy on a polytraumatized patient in the EM. DEPT. I'm teasing you. Very good job! Keep practicing. Sadly difficulties arise unexpectedly without prior notice. :)
Good job. Hand veins are the worst starting ivs on, they are thin, and easy to rupture.there is a good vein on the radial side of the wrist, its almost always patent, and easy to stabilize because its on the radius. It's called the Cephalic vein... try it! Might work better for ya. Good luck.
Really good job, and I know you were doing the IV on your wife, but for habit purposes, PUT ON GLOVES!!!

wrong manner of disinfecting the surface of the skin. it should be in circular motion from inner to outer.

No, you should wipe once starting at the proximal and moving to the distal part. Just like he did, only just once.

Wow, that was really sweet of her to let you practice on her. Do IV's hurt really bad?

Like hell. Or at least mine did. It depends on the student or nurse. In my clinicals, the student who practiced on me had no clue what she was doing.
