A really great soundtrack, but the fight should have been more based on the book which was much better, and in front an audience. When Harry walks back after just killing Voldemort, no-one would just ignore him or stare, they would cheer him, especially if he just survived the killing curse again :-)
what i loved about this scene was that harry never used avada kedavra on voldy, just expelliarmus. it means harry wanted to protect, defend and stop him but not kill anyone. even after all the trouble harry didnt have any malice in his heart and never changed. thats why jk rules as she inspires us, since we were kids. suck it meyer.
1:13 is the best part of the song. I remember I had goosebumps in the theater first day this came out. It's the scene where voldys killing curse is rebounding and the wand is recognizing it's master. If the wand was voldemorts master harry wouldn't of stood a chance. At all played out on luck in Harris favor.
Although I love how they finished Voldemort in the movie to make him look like Ashes, and the book shows nothing aesthetically pleasing for the movie (no special effects), I do love how JK Rowling described Voldemort's death, "Tom Riddle hit the floor with a mundane finality...". Although his death looked impressive in the movie, I missed the sort of.. "thud" feeling that he's dead. Instead, it was sort of... airy.
@MuniSheela I must say that I ORIGINALLY thought the book ending was better too, but after some consideration, I've realised that how they've done it in the movie is perhaps the best they could have done. This movie, and perhaps the whole series, was primarily about Harry's relationship with Voldemort, Snape's loyalties and Hermione's relationship with Ron. The movie ending succeeds in bringing all these plots to a close.
@TheRetroBandicoot Snape is long dead, so he doesn't appear in the ending. (Excluding his mention in the epilogue.) Hermione and Ron are seen fleeing Nagini, together. And there's no around in the battle between Harry and Voldemort, besides the two fighters themselves. That's how it should be. Nobody really cares about the minor characters at this point. It's all about the Trio's last attempt to kill the Dark Lord and thus, the ending decides to focus on nothing else.
@TheRetroBandicoot Also the fact that everything's done wordlessly, with the epic background music being the only sound we can hear, makes the thing a lot more beautiful. Dialogue at this point would have just been distracting. Lastly, the cheering as Voldy's killed was amusing in the book but in the movie, there's enough cheering after the McGonagall vs. Snape duel. To have cheering now would put the Voldy/Harry battle on par to the McG/Snape one; making it lose its epicness.
@TheRetroBandicoot That the characters processed the Dark Lord's downfall without really talking that much makes it more realistic. He was the darkest wizard of all times; people would be shocked into silence at his downfall. It would take a while for them to actually realise that 'wow. He is dead. The war's over.' That's just my opinion, anyways, The only negative thing is that Neville detracts from the action, but again that's an improvement on the way JK did the Nagini scene, IMHO.
@TheRetroBandicoot I totally agree with you. At first I was disappointed that there was no cheering, but when I watch that scene now it just looks like they're shocked, in a daze that Voldemort is dead. It's almost like a "What now?" situtation. They're also resting after such a hard-fought battle, not to mention they've lost some loved ones. I also love how Harry hugs Hagrid, because it brings it to a full circle, since Hagrid was the one who told him he was a wizard.
@TheRetroBandicoot Yes the movie succeeded in bringing the plot together very nicely but I don't think its the best they could've done. The beginning was amazing but the end could have been too. I still think they should have stuck to the book ending because although the movies do focus on Harry& Voldemort's relationship, the whole Wizarding community was also very much involved, and Voldemort should have been perished in the midst of this community like in the book.
The five dislikes are from Voldemort making two accounts under LORD VOLDEMORT, one account under TOM RIDDLE, then he got his two most faithful death eaters, Bellatrix Lestrange and Barty Crouch Jr. to dislike it as well... He would have gotten more, but everyone else abandoned him ;)
2:00-2:25 -- I feel like Lily was standing by Harry's side (invisible, of course) as he watched Voldemort disintegrate into pieces. As the ashes scattered in the wind, it felt right. It was a complete circle. Her theme playing as Voldemort dies is a subtle but powerful tribute to Lily. It reminds everyone that before Harry, there was Lily, and because of her bravery, incredible love, and sacrifice, Harry was able to live on and finally defeat Voldemort. He wouldn't be there if not for her.
I wish the kept the scene when they talk to Dumbledore's portrait and he puts the wand back into his grave. I also would have liked to see Dumbledore's past.
@RBP627 well maybe except Khloe cuz shes actually smarter then the rest of the bunch (she keot her work life on hold to be married unlike kim who just rushed into it)
When I see this scene, that part with Lily's Theme at the end really touches me. It makes me realize that Voldemort, too, was a human. Lily, Harry, or Dumbledore didn't want Tom to die, they just wanted him to be imprisoned or something. After all, like Dumbledore says, "There are plenty of things worse than death." Okay, that's not a direct quote, but IT'S CLOSE TO WHAT HE SAYS!
@bcid2011 I don't have the book on me, but I think it goes, Voldemort says, "There is nothing worse than death, Dumbledore!" And Dumbledore says, "You are quite wrong.", and then goes on to say something about there being other ways of destroying a man :p
The movie wasnt clear enough on how exactly Voldemort was killed, in the book the elder wand refused to kill its master and rebounded the killing curse which destroyed Voldemort. In the movie, we only see the final horcrux being destroyed, then he vanishes into ash. Could have been better... meh.
@TheLastAbacus I agree it should have been different but I thought the death was rather beautiful. With Nagini killed, it seemed his souls died as well, leaving a shell, weak body that is nothing without a soul.
This scene would be a bit better if the had "the face of voldemort" like you know quirrell being killed, that section of the music but at 1:13 you get a good sense of victory, and voldemorts death was like quirrells
I know I seem to comment on every video but I just have a lot of feelings towards this soundtrack. The reprisal of "Lily's Theme" at the end makes me think of how all of this was primarily for Lily, because of Lily and the love she had induced upon the ones who knew her. They were fighting for her son. Of course they were fighting to end the darkness over their world, but Lily just seems to me this consistent light throughout the series that everyone refers to and when Voldy dies she is set free
@xlupinsgirlx -- Beautiful. My thoughts exactly. When I hear her theme playing as Voldemort withers away, I know she was with Harry watching Voldemort die. It was a full circle.
I know we're all treating Voldemort's death with an artistic perspective, but I hated it. Sorry. For a film with this much "hype" surrounding it it's safer to remain with the book.
@thed0dgydancer I feel that the book's death is better - for all his power and followers, he dies alone and unmourned, brought down in a single instant - but we should also keep in mind the difference between the written and visual medium. For the past hour, we have been watching with fury - not simply reading - as Voldemort slaughters characters we care about. From a visual perspective, it would be anticlimatic to kill him that way... we'd feel cheated, as if vengeance had not been truly had.
@FreakForFilmScore I get your point, but people in Harry Potter do not disintegrate or, like Bellatrix, explode. It was like a money-making, sci-fi, Hollywood director had suddenly been employed for all the death scenes. I understand just dropping dead would not satisfy within a film, particularly in comparison to the magnitude of Voldemort's regimes, but just him slowly dying, or waiting nervously to embrace or react to the killing curse would have been enough.
Oh my gosh, i know alot of people will disagree with me but having Voldemort disintegrate was so beautiful and fitting. It was probably one of the most beautifully done scenes in the film. Voldemort dying quickly wouldn't have been fitting at all.
@hannahlauren24 It was one of the most beautiful scenes ive ever seen out of any movie in history. But the one thing is that the shot with Ron holding Hermione while falling onto the rocks after nearly being killed by Nagini ought to have longer by a couple of seconds. i love that scene! This finale is one of the greatest movies ive ever seen, hands down, although i bet its very different from the book itself. :(
@iamSnip3rOne i totally, 100% agree with everything you just said. There were so many beautiful moments in this film, which I'm so glad for considering it's the last one.
@hannahlauren24 Hey, I agree with you... it almost showed that death is painful to endure if you have no soul to withstand it, otherwise it's quite natural, "quicker than falling asleep". :D
@hannahlauren24 I definitely agree. For the book, him dying quickly worked well, but for the movie, it was great visually. Some things are better done on film, and others done better way when written. I was satisfied with both interpretations of Voldemort's death.
@BuddSidewinder Exactly, I feel like if Voldemort had just dropped dead, it would have been too quick. Like the ending of this whole huge series, that lasted 10 years, ended like that. It made it more real for me for Voldemort to die this way if that makes any sense?
@hannahlauren24 it doesn't matter how voldemort died, they had to kill him because he never would stop killing. Harry didn't kill Riddle out of revenge, he killed him because it was what had to be done. I think that if Riddle stopped all his killing and stopped fearing death, harry would have forgiven him and took him as a friend.
@joeydud13 I agree with the first part, but with the second part not so much. There are some things that can never be undone. And Harry never seemed like that much of a forgiving person. Take Snape for instance. Snape did some nice things for Harry, but he was never able to see Snape in a different way.
Not to mention the face that Voldemort was never going to stop killing and besides, for example, if a murderer stops murdering he still has to face up to the consequences right?
@hannahlauren24 I can see your point of view but it just seemed so inconsistent. Some people fall dead, other freeze and then are shattered (bellatrix), and then Voldemort disintegrates.
@LiveNewsCentre Personally, I think that Voldemort died the way he did, because there was nothing left of his soul. When someone dies, their body remains, but their soul dies( unless you don't believe that) but in Voldemorts case, he had no soul. So the only thing left of him was his body, and that's why it disenigrated. It just depends on how you look at it. Bellatrix made NO sense to me. Bellatrix should have just dropped dead in all honesty.
@hannahlauren24 I disagree... Since Yates is the director of HP movies he has never shown a dead body. Why? Because of his belief that ALL HP movies are for children, and children should not see a dead body. Bellatrix and Voldemort's disintegrate were silly.
@NivekztyleDj It just depends on how you look at it. I think Yates was taking the idea that Voldemort had no soul left, and the only thing left to die was his body. But Bellatrix dying in a similiar way didn't really make as much sense to me, other than the fact that she died in a similiar way that sirius did, almost as if she was frozen in place.
@hannahlauren24 I disagree because in the book he dies in front of everyone which made it more moving. His death in the book was so much better and more descriptive whereas in the film he just disintegrated. He should have died how the described it in the book.
@MissMistyHaze I see where you're coming from, personally I was very, very dissapointed when Voldemort didn't die in the presence of other people, only Harry.
I think what made the scene so beautiful was the music, and how peaceful it was. It was almost as if you could feel the relief of everyone there. that it was finally over. It's hard to explain how I feel, but I can definatly agree with you.
1:46 to the end is such a beautiful track Lily's Theme. I thought it was strange how it played during Voldemort's obliteration into flakes. Still great work by the composer.
Here we see a man who split his soul, who tried to kill a child and was disembodied, who drank unicorn's blood and infested an innocent man, who set a monster on those he did not see as pure, who feared no one except one man, who stole the most powerful wand in existence, who brought the world's greatest stronghold to its knees, who seemed to have eliminated the people's savior, and yet, here he dies without a cheer from his victims or a cry from his followers. An empty life with an empty end.
3 thumbs down? Yeah... is it me or someone just found the resurection stone and brought to life Voldemort and Bellatrix AND thought Umbrige how to go to youtube.
I'm going to get lots of thumb-downs/negative comments for this, BUT.....
this song did not seem "epic" to me. :-/ I hoped that when listening to the trailer music of this movie (even though trailer music and the official soundtracks are nothing alike) that it would live up to that expectation of "epicness."
In my opinion, Alexandre Desplat did not live up to my expectations of giving Harry Potter the final send-off, but if it were any of the previous composers they would have...
@FluteGal89 Have you LISTENED to 1:15 onwards?! Dragon Fight sounds like something out of Lord of the Rings, and A New Beginning is one of the most beautiful, poignant orchestral songs I've ever heard. After Part 1, I would've agreed with you; however, Part 2 changed my mind, and I think that even John Williams would have struggled to have produced such an epic score.
@Curseco personally i think snapes death wasn't suppose to be as dramitic so you would feel no sympathy for him. then you would see the memory and you would start to feel the emotion.
am i the only one that was disapointed that they took out Harry's big speech about remorse and how Voldemort never truly owned the Elder Wand? It was so symbolic and pretty much summed up the whole series to me! I thought that they would have it! or at least part of it.
Voldemort....best villain ever to hit the big screen or the pages! I will never ever forget my long-lived obsession with harry! When I would watch the happer harry potters, i would make jokes about voldemort or snape with my friends when I was younger, now i don't find them very funny at all, actually i find them kind of insulting!
1:13 The most exciting and anticipated scene of all time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It felt awkward seeing him in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade. o_o

Oh my gosh, i know alot of people will disagree with me but having Voldemort disintegrate was so beautiful and fitting. It was probably one of the most beautifully done scenes in the film. Voldemort dying quickly wouldn't have been fitting at all.
hannahlauren24 2 months ago 92
@hannahlauren24 I agree.
NumericOempa 2 months ago
@hannahlauren24 I definitely agree! That's why it's one of my favourite scenes in the film.

@hannahlauren24 totally agree.
johnkennedymcd 2 months ago
@hannahlauren24 I agree. It worked fine in the book but it's different trying to make things work when it comes to film. So it was a good choice.
TheStuartCarson 2 months ago in playlist More videos from HarryPotterArt
@TheStuartCarson a very good choice that I'm glad they made. Sometimes you need those changes to make it work.
hannahlauren24 1 month ago
@hannahlauren24 It was one of the most beautiful scenes ive ever seen out of any movie in history. But the one thing is that the shot with Ron holding Hermione while falling onto the rocks after nearly being killed by Nagini ought to have longer by a couple of seconds. i love that scene! This finale is one of the greatest movies ive ever seen, hands down, although i bet its very different from the book itself. :(
iamSnip3rOne 2 months ago
@iamSnip3rOne i totally, 100% agree with everything you just said. There were so many beautiful moments in this film, which I'm so glad for considering it's the last one.

@hannahlauren24 Hey, I agree with you... it almost showed that death is painful to endure if you have no soul to withstand it, otherwise it's quite natural, "quicker than falling asleep". :D
hippogriffkeeper 2 months ago
@hippogriffkeeper I..never..even..thought...of..this. you are a genius. a straight up genius.
hannahlauren24 1 month ago
@hannahlauren24 Actually I agree, because of one reason, because voldemort's soul is so mutilated there was nothing left of his body to destroy.
Shanethefilmmaker 1 month ago
@Shanethefilmmaker ahhh so true (: we think the same way
hannahlauren24 1 month ago
@hannahlauren24 I definitely agree. For the book, him dying quickly worked well, but for the movie, it was great visually. Some things are better done on film, and others done better way when written. I was satisfied with both interpretations of Voldemort's death.
BuddSidewinder 1 month ago 2
@BuddSidewinder Exactly, I feel like if Voldemort had just dropped dead, it would have been too quick. Like the ending of this whole huge series, that lasted 10 years, ended like that. It made it more real for me for Voldemort to die this way if that makes any sense?
hannahlauren24 1 month ago
@hannahlauren24 it doesn't matter how voldemort died, they had to kill him because he never would stop killing. Harry didn't kill Riddle out of revenge, he killed him because it was what had to be done. I think that if Riddle stopped all his killing and stopped fearing death, harry would have forgiven him and took him as a friend.
joeydud13 1 month ago
@joeydud13 I agree with the first part, but with the second part not so much. There are some things that can never be undone. And Harry never seemed like that much of a forgiving person. Take Snape for instance. Snape did some nice things for Harry, but he was never able to see Snape in a different way.
Not to mention the face that Voldemort was never going to stop killing and besides, for example, if a murderer stops murdering he still has to face up to the consequences right?
hannahlauren24 1 month ago
@hannahlauren24 I can see your point of view but it just seemed so inconsistent. Some people fall dead, other freeze and then are shattered (bellatrix), and then Voldemort disintegrates.
LiveNewsCentre 1 month ago
@LiveNewsCentre Personally, I think that Voldemort died the way he did, because there was nothing left of his soul. When someone dies, their body remains, but their soul dies( unless you don't believe that) but in Voldemorts case, he had no soul. So the only thing left of him was his body, and that's why it disenigrated. It just depends on how you look at it. Bellatrix made NO sense to me. Bellatrix should have just dropped dead in all honesty.
hannahlauren24 1 month ago
@hannahlauren24 I disagree... Since Yates is the director of HP movies he has never shown a dead body. Why? Because of his belief that ALL HP movies are for children, and children should not see a dead body. Bellatrix and Voldemort's disintegrate were silly.
NivekztyleDj 1 month ago
@NivekztyleDj It just depends on how you look at it. I think Yates was taking the idea that Voldemort had no soul left, and the only thing left to die was his body. But Bellatrix dying in a similiar way didn't really make as much sense to me, other than the fact that she died in a similiar way that sirius did, almost as if she was frozen in place.
hannahlauren24 1 month ago
@NivekztyleDj Dumbledore was shown dead. As were plenty of people in deathly hallows part 2. So was Dobby.
SBrooksie1995 1 month ago
@hannahlauren24 I disagree because in the book he dies in front of everyone which made it more moving. His death in the book was so much better and more descriptive whereas in the film he just disintegrated. He should have died how the described it in the book.
MissMistyHaze 1 month ago

@FluteGal89 We can't help that your opinion is wrong....
JewellMaster12 3 months ago
@FluteGal89 Have you LISTENED to 1:15 onwards?! Dragon Fight sounds like something out of Lord of the Rings, and A New Beginning is one of the most beautiful, poignant orchestral songs I've ever heard. After Part 1, I would've agreed with you; however, Part 2 changed my mind, and I think that even John Williams would have struggled to have produced such an epic score.

I was more sad about Voldemort's death than Snapes. O.O
The way Snapes death was filmed was.. weird and lame, with no emotional depth. On the other hand Voldemorts final gasp of air was brilliant!
Curseco 3 months ago
@Curseco personally i think snapes death wasn't suppose to be as dramitic so you would feel no sympathy for him. then you would see the memory and you would start to feel the emotion.

am i the only one that was disapointed that they took out Harry's big speech about remorse and how Voldemort never truly owned the Elder Wand? It was so symbolic and pretty much summed up the whole series to me! I thought that they would have it! or at least part of it.
