It's good to be the first to comment on this video. I'm in London with the computer on my lap writing these words on behalf of John Fante himself. Fante was a chance in a million but someone so ordinary and willing to say it plain and simple.
can anyone tell me what this video is actually discussing about Fante? Can we get subtitles, please?---I'm a big John Fante fan and there's nothing reported about him reported in the US, and that's a shame.
YOu're not kidding. It is a shame that there is nothing here. I grew up in an Italian American town in New Jersey that would love Fante but it seems to me that people haven't caught up with him yet, his genius, so Holden it's cool we're in the same boat. Let' s make a film about Fante, wouldn't that be something, Mr. Shed. Dweller
Hey I grew up in a small Italian town in NJ too! I'm 3/4 Italian. Passaic, NJ. We left one by one as racist blacks and Puerto Ricans moved in, called us "gringos" and dirty wops. My mother got knocked dow, her purse snatched, and three days before Christmas my father took a bullet to the heart in a local tavern after a hard day's work by men The Herald News described as having a "dark complexion."
Count me in for a film about Fante. I think his son the writer would cooperate.
Let's do it. I you related to Holden Caulfield? What did Fante think of Holden I wonder, I bet he digged it. Anyways, I grew up in Madison, home of the sloppy, joe, where it was invented, and Janeane Garofolo, and Neil O'Donnell. We can get them to chip in, and perhaps some Italians who would like to see the true Italian story told, not with all this violence and such, which has nothing to do with Fante. We think alike, Mr. Shed Dweller
