Cool. Chris actually showed my former band how to play this tune when we were rehearsing in his basement and had the chord progression wrong. Maybe that's when he got the idea to cover it.
Great one of my favourite bands covering another great bands song. Viva Blondie! Viva the Rolling Stones! And anyone in between in between who is trying to make it including me. OR AM I TOO OLD!
-sigh- I want this in studio quality darn it. I don't care what people say. They should so do a cover album of the best songs just indulge my addiction to their sound.
I love Debbie in general - but also love her for her daring - to just to what the F*ck she feels like doing or singing; I've never heard her do a cover version of the Stones - and this song is one of the BEST songs of the Stones she could ever pick. Don't you agree? What year was this video shot?
Debbie has done tons of Stones covers. I have been at gigs when she did WILD HORSES (1997) and GOT OFF OF MY CLOUD (2008). I think her best Stones cover is START ME UP (1982). I think this video was about 2006 or 2007.
nah, i wont say this version is better than the Rolling Stone's version, but Rogue Frequency's version sounds pretty bad, it sounds far too heavy for the song, it sounds better odviously by the Stones but i dont think Rogue Frequency understand the song's underlying messages that The Rolling Stones had. (interestingly the song is not about the Vietnam war, it was about one of the band members splitting up with a long term lover, though Kubrick uses it in 'Full Metal Jacket')
Their version's okay, but I don't like the way Debbie switches octaves between the chorus and the verses. I heard a bootleg of the Stones doing a very demonic and freaky live version of this in 1966 or 1967 ... it was pretty amazing. But if you had to choose between the modern versions of these bands doing this song, you'd probably do just as well with the Blondie version. My name's daveB and these are my opinions.
she's a woman! she HAS to change octaves, she couldn't sing the chorus if she sang it in the same pitch as the verses, it would be too low for her, and vice versa if she sang the verses in the same pitch as the chorus she couldnt sing that either as it would be too high lol
Did what? Paint it Black? Hell no, it was The Rolling Stones. Maybe Eric and friends made a cover song, but the original is by The Rolling Stones. Or what did you mean?
Blondie cant't beat the original version (RS) and I said that EB and NA did it. Weider's violin intro is just amazing and Burdon's vocal...no comment.
i seen blondie this summer and my fag brother made me leave before the oncore and i heard them do paint it black at the car and i wont see debbie that close again if i am even lucky to see her again.i never thought that time would ever come and toronto was fucked after that and i cant pay to see them in the uk.
I hate when people do that! They want to leave early just to escape the crowd. You see people do this all the time at the movies. It's amazing, I guess they don't care about what they'll miss.
Shit I arrived late at a Blondie gig in 2004 in Portland Oregon, showing up drunk around 10.30, (normal headline time)thinking there was no opening acts, only to find they went on at 9.00.
I caught only two songs!!
Lucky I caught them later at the Addison food festival in Dallas for $5 bucks, but they were twenty times better in Portland, even though I only saw them for 10 min.
i love Blondie but Mick sings this song the best of all !!! <3

I'm surprised; this is actually a very good version, even though it's incomplete. A lot better than U2's.

hmm to be honest at times the pitching was really badly off there...
rainmouse 2 years ago
the magic of harry's vocals....... black and white with blondie - there is NO grey...... like it - or ya don't - live or not.
'pitching' (on or off key) has been the issue of critics since harry/blondie stated recording!!!!!!!!!!!!!
....... don't forget cbgb's ....... the ramones, talking heads, ........ all 'pitch' concerns.........
the honesty is in the fact they don't bend and twist the vocals as they do today when recording, using digital technology. hmmmmmmmmm.

The Rogue Frequency cover of 'Paint It Black'
is by far the best cover version of this song.
If you like good music/ classic rock/ etc.
Also, check out their other videos are great too! Rogue Frequency!!!

Changing the octave has implications which I hear and dont like. It all feels rhythmically and harmonically distorted. Awesome song though.
