  • I am afraid those falls in Torino have shaken her confidence quite a bit. She's never looked less confident to me.

  • Sasha is such an elegant skater but her LP's always fall apart! That always puzzled me!

  • This is NOT about a dislike of Sasha. It is about clearly who deserved the most out of the others. Sasha wasn't clearly a favorite unlike Michelle Kwan who clearly was the favorite to win, but her injuries took her out so she wasn't able to compete. It is a shame that Kwan was then overshadowed by Sasha's success, but that doesn't mean that Kwan should be the one to be singled out or disliked in favor of Sasha. That resulted with Shizuka winning gold and Sasha, silver in the 2006 Olympic games.

  • @anne91276 Sasha's fans get cranky when someone refuses to drink the Sasha koolaid. Sasha was a beautiful skater but she's totally overrated. She's known as much for choking as she is for her artistry, which is why she never became a true champion. Most of her fans forget that results actually matter, and they put her up on a pedestal based solely on the potential she showed. She doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Michelle Kwan, who actually became an extraordinary champion.

  • not one of her best routines but i certainly can't do that so i don't blame her for not landing her jumps ice skating is challenging

  • @christinagetsfitx3 lol...I've seen Sasha's LP at 2010 nationals so I understand why you are cranky. Doesn't explain your lack of class but oh well...tootles!

  • @christinagetsfitx3 Can you read? Just because someone doesn't buy into the way Sasha's fans distor and inflatet her career doesn't mean they dislike her. It just means that some people prefer the truth. Sasha was a one dimensional skater who did not have the talent and skill required to become a true champion. That doesn't take away from the superb artistry she contributed to the sport, but it is absurd to ever compare Sasha to a champion of Michelle's caliber..Michelle was a winner.

  • @MissThingSings Sasha isn't as great of champion as Michelle Kwan but is great as most U.S. Champions were, has more impressive record than Kimmie Misner, Sarah Hughes, Nicole Bobek, Nancy Kerrigan,Tonya Harding & Tonia Kwiatkowski(who wasn't U.S.Champion but had successful made it to nationals numerous times and won U.S.Short Program(95), and also competed at some World championships)Sasha was U.S. Champion 1 time, 2nd-4,3rd-1,USJr 2nd-2.Olympics 2nd &3rd, Worlds 2nd-2,3rd-1,4th-2, Jr.World 6th

  • Effortlessly graceful. Her spins, spirals, and connecting elements were so difficult and so well executed that she could, as the woman said, afford a mistake on her jumps. Even her jumps ordinarily were technically superior to all other skaters. She did on occasion fail to properly execute the jumps as she did here but overall just the most glorious skater in modern history. And yes, she was at the mercy of the biased judges who greatly favored Kwan.

  • @HowsaBowsaYowsa Why bring Kwan into this? She wasn't even here and Sasha STILL couldn't cut it (Irina and Shizuka weren't as well). At the mercy of biased judges? That statement is lame. Kwan earned all of her medals... I actually think that she was UNDERSCORED at the 2000/2001 Worlds (where she landed 7 triples with a 3/3). They really wanted Irina to win. Sasha just could skate a clean LP at a major and keep her butt off of the ice! Stop blaming Michelle Kwan!

  • @HowsaBowsaYowsa Saying Sasha Cohen "did on occasion fail to properly execute the jumps" is like saying water is occasionally wet! It's unfortunate that Sasha's fans feel the need to change facts and rewrite history in order to accept her...Sasha was a stunning artist for sure, but she was the most inconsistent elite skater in history. She could never deliver when it really mattered...that is not opinion, that is a fact. Accept her for who she is...she deserves better from so called fans...

  • @MissThingSings What about Tonia Kwiatkowski she was an elite skater been to U.S. Championships numerous times won the U.S. short program (1995) but never won 1st place at U.S.Championship, or any Olympic medal, or any World medal?

  • @hydrolito Tonia was okay, but I wouldn't place her alongside the others. Mind you, my criticism of Sasha is due in large part to the fact that she had such extraordinary potential. It's really too bad that she did not realize her potential, and it's also too bad that none of her coaches were able to really mold her into a winner. Frank Carroll would have been great for her...he had backbone and would have stood up to her and quite possibly made her into a champion.

  • @MissThingSings I don't think Frank would have tolerated Sasha. Sasha was known for wanting to do things her way on her terms.

  • @purpleblumidnite You are right...I was just thinking how good she could have been if she had been able to submit herself fully to a coach like Frank. I bet he could have turned her into a real champion...she could have been unstoppable. Then again, that should have been the case when she worked with Tatiana...that certainly should have been a winning combination. It's too bad...her potential was without limits IMO.

  • @HowsaBowsaYowsa Judges are supposed to favor a skater who lands jumps cleanly (MICHELLE KWAN) over a skater who falls, wobbles and bobbles 99% of the time (SASHA COHEN). I swear, your guys must be typing these posts from atop the grassy knoll! Please direct me to a competition in which Sasha Cohen skated two clean programs and lost to Michelle or anyone who skated less than perfectly. Put up or shut up! Michelle Kwan was better than Sasha, period. Sasha was beautiful but she was not a winner!

  • @midnightblusky No...that would be Michelle Kwan but Kwan got inflated scores no matter...Michelle was FULL of excuses...even in Torino...she had a long plane ride (first class) and marched in the opening ceremonies...(of course...the photographers were out in force and it was all about FACE time)...no Shelly is the mistress of excuses...NOT Sasha...I think Sasha skated injured in SLC and earned the bronze that was given to Shelly.

  • @getrealandsee: Honey, you gotta give it up. It's time my friend, it's time.

  • @mlc2005 Getrealandsee (aka allenglandlawns, etc.) will never give up because he is sick and delusional. Two weeks ago Getreal posted on another video that Michelle Kwan earned her berth to Torino by performing oral sex on a member of the US skating federation. A lot of us disagree on things, and we all certainly have favorites, but only a classless piece of trash would stoop to that level. He tried to erase the post but I copied it before he could...he's unstable and racist IMO..and dumb!

  • @getrealandsee Only an idiot would blame Sasha's lack of success on a pro-Michelle judging conspiracy. Michelle was not present when Kimmie Meissner won the world title over Sasha, was she? Sasha Cohen was a gorgeous skater, but she was one dimensional and lacked the mental toughness required to be a true champion. Sasha never dominated figure skating, under ANY system, in Michelle's presence or absence. Sasha Cohen never, ever won a world title in Michelle absence or presence. Those are FACTS!

  • @getrealandsee Kwan's scores were almost never "inflated". I still think that her GREAT performances at the 2000/2001 Worlds were underscored. Sasha's scores WERE inflated at the 2006 Olympics! Only landing 4 clean triples (two bad falls and she two footed a jump in her sequence) and still winning a silver? Kwan was a deserving silver medal winner at the '98 Olympics (7 triples). YOU think that Sasha skated "injured" at the 2002 Olympics? More lame excuses... Kwan deserved her bronze.

  • @midnightblusky of course she was injured here. Anyone who has seen her skate consistently knows that she never looses her balance on the elements where she shows off her flexibility. She did so in this program several times.

  • sasha is just plain hot

  • love her. but just like the story it became a tragedy. (the program)

    but everything is done gracefully

  • The best skater to never win a World gold medal! Stunning no matter what. She is a ballerina on ice.

  • She was injured...And she still did amazing. Getting silver is an amazing honor.

  • @ADforKB she won the bronze at this competition. still love her all the same.

  • @cw6391 I know, but I mean Olympic silver is amazing. I know she got bronze here x]

She's a brilliant skater and skates with so much emotion.

  • Shes an amazing skater! I wish I could skate like her. Go Sasha !!! :)

  • Was uncoparible

  • Hatred should just stop! She was an amazing skater her felxibilit

  • BORING waif....

  • America's skating sweetheart <3

  • @HowsaBowsaYowsa Not really... America's greatest waste, maybe...

  • this music makes me melt <3

  • i feel really bad for her

  • the best elena sokolova

  • She seemed to be so much more into character at the Olympics. I think she did better the Olympics BECAUSE she fell. She said it always meant a lot to her to finish this program strong. After starting out bad she knew she had to skate the rest strongly. Such a beautiful skater.

  • JUST LIKE LIFE. NO ONE IS PERFECT, ESPECIALLY PEOPLE WHO SIT AROUND THERE PC JUDGING OLYMPIANS WHO GIVE THERE ALL EVERYDAY OF THEIR LIFE TO TRY AND BE GREAT. I HOPE ALL THEIR DREAMS COME TRUE.

  • shes good !! but theres something missing, shes not flawless i dont see her conected to music, yuna kim is better

  • dodgy triple landings aside, i have never seen anyone skate as beautifully as sasha does.

  • Sigh. By saying "this sums up her career", you seem to be implying that she couldnd't have beaten the very best, which is hogwash.

This isn't her best. But even on a bad day, I prefer to watch Sasha Cohen skate.

  • Her skating is so exptremely beautiful that every time she makes a mistake it's so painful to watch. I am wanting so badly for her to skate one clean long program, to leave behind a beautiful legacy of masterpieces on ice. Now that she has left competitive figure skating, that will not never happen. It's sheer joy to watch her skate and feel the emotional journey she brings us through every performance. At the same time it's so achingly sad when she knows that it wasn't perfect.

  • @ViVi80 Look up her 2004 Marshall's program. It was probably the one time she was absolutely perfect. Closely followed by 2002 Nationals LP though she just had a hand down.

  • Not once has she made mistakes on her spirals she obsivoly tired from the olympics to even make a mistake on spirals :/

  • She just gave this title away.

    But Sasha was amazing.

  • She really frustrates me. Never have I seen such a beautiful, elegant skater. She moves like no other, but she doesn't fight for it. Fight, girl, FIGHT! I just want to shake her sometimes. She always loses the will to go on. Indeed, she often looks defeated as soon as she starts.

  • With Sasha, I feel as though there was a time up until maybe about 2004 where she was so passionate about skating. 2005 and 2006, she didn't seem as into it as she was when she was a young girl. Her programs were always going to be beautiful because that's the American way of skating, but she had NO competition around her at this World Championships...quite literally.

  • if you notice, at the olympics shizuka skated after sasha and won the gold and, after the worlds in 2006 kimmie meissner skated after sasha and also won the gold medal. Pretty ironic

  • she was THIRD?????

  • wtf?

  • You sound stupid when you speak that way. Masters Degree or not, you sound like an idiot.

  • sometimes you need to dumb yourself down for people, because unfortunately they not only sound like idiots, but are, and perhaps in doing so, they will get the point.

  • She was probably freakin' exhausted after the Olympics. I still think she's the most beautiful skater in the World.

  • @ost324 Its not like she's the only skater who went to the Olympics and then to Worlds. Kimmie Meissner managed to pull it off... Its just another excuse for Sasha. Always one excuse or another from her.

  • @ost324 She's terrible.

  • Sasha got a huge deduction because she fell on her last jump.

  • Absolutely...

  • she had a step out, a hand down, a 2-footed landing and a fall at the very end

  • What was her final place?

  • she was third!

  • Heartbreaking :(

We know you can do it sasha, keep up

  • I think she two footed a double axel and anotehr tripe flipp

  • did she win?

  • she was third.

  • i know, im aware of how incredibly talented sasha is... and i think u r totally right

its just that this performancegot me mad the very first time i saw it, and that's why i dont watch it anymore, (not like her performance in torino)

cuz in torino she made mistakes true, but then delivered such a glorious performance, so secure... here she was the favorite and it seems she just allowed the program to leave, i dont see the same fire or determination she had in torino, at all... and its a shame

  • she gets cautious, and yes is a perfectionist and in any sport that's not always a good because you get mad when you make a mistake and lose focus

  • Too many mistakes in jumps.

Why she always fall in the jumps?

    She used to be good.

  • no words for that.i begun to feel, that she has a really strong soul.she gone through so much disappointment.and she didnt kill herself.its not a joke.believe me it must have been really hard to process(?)(im sorry if its not the proper word) her falls her silver medals. You know the second is the first looser. She must have heard what evil people say.that she hadnt been able to pull out a flawless program(i know its not true).i dont know what person is she,but i think she is a wonderful skater.

  • yeah she's a fantastic skater. i think it must be a mentality issue. it break my heart seeing her fall like that.

  • Sasha Cohen now plays in a movie called Moondance Alexader and she has worked hard to make her dreams come true she is one of the bravest warrior.

  • Sasha is such a puzzle. She is amazingly talented in flexibility, artistry, and general positioning. It is perlexing she hasn't been able to get the training to consistently nail her jumps. Which makes me believe this is a confidence issue.

  • she was a wonderful skater; just was not a good competitor. competitors have to be able to channel that nervous energy and pressure and use it to their advantage. if she would have done that she probably would have won everything she entered, hands down. but so many times she looked to be completely focused and then she would just fall apart, just tripping at the finish line. I frequently give her a hard time but I really do enjoy watching her skate. it'd be nice to see her back for 2010.

  • @themarshmalo she isnt that talented a jumper. She doesnt have very good technique on her jumps like she does on most other things, and she lacks spring and height.

  • @grafgirl27

I totally agree. Air position is only a part of the jump. Her landing is always so inconsistent...

  • ooh..you shud cry sore loser

  • this performance was just sad. It almost hurts to watch it. even before she started she looked like she was going to cry. she did not want to be there and it was painful just to get though it. I just feel so sorry for her here.

  • Disgraceful bronze!

  • You could tell she just wasn't in it. =( Oh, Sasha...

  • i think its interesting how she always skates to a song by a Russian composer

  • She's skated to lots of music that wasn't composed by a Russian. Yes she likes using Russian music, but she doesn't ALWAYS use it.

  • There are enormously talented athletes and artists in all disciplines who simply cannot deliver consistently when the pressure is on. Sasha has so many natural gifts other skaters would kill for, but self-confidence doesn't appear to be one of them. The desperate switching of coaches is almost always a trouble sign. She is so flexible, graceful and musical. But skating is a combination of mechanics and artistry. Mastery of only one of them won't put and keep you at the top. So sad.

  • I think that she just gave up near the end.

  • Cohen is the best skater I've seen in my life. No one has hit the positions she has hit. So what she is not an world's or Oylumpic champion. She has placed in all of her events and has grown. She may fall during the events, but its how many times u get up that counts. She will make a come back during the 2009 2010 season.

  • WADEVER

  • ... And maybe if she spent more time working on her skating instead of trying to body-check/ collide with other skaters during practice she could have won Worlds!

  • did she really?

  • Well, it was reported extensively during 2002 Nationals that Sasha twice purposely collided with Michelle Kwan during practice, and also Sasha skated in Nikodinov's skating path. Sasha denied she did that on purpose, though. I just never cared for Sasha's attitude. I remember during 2003 Nationals, Tarasova (Sasha's coach at that time) congratulated Kwan on her win while Sasha sat and sulked and didn't look at them- maybe that's just my perception, though.

  • I can't seem to find any movies of that practise, do you know of any? I agree, many skaters are sore losers and to me it is a total turn off.

  • WADEVER

  • It must have been a slap in the face to Sasha Cohen that Kimmie won the gold on her first try at a World Championships and Sasha couldn't hold it. I think she expects to fall. Total mental block.

  • This is such a gd programme, it's just such a shame that she fell all those times :(

oh well, i still love her!

    Sasha 4 Gold 2010!

  • so dissapointing, cuz she'd such a graceful skater, has beautiful spins, beautiful spirals, her transitions, her ability to perform is amazing, and when she hits the jumps, they r also glorious, but she doesnt do it, and i dont understand why... cuz she has all those qualities, that could make her the best skater, but she always does that... so sad, cuz i wanted to see her as the champion, then again dissapointing..

  • I could just see this coming. Even with a weak field Sasha couldn't get it done. She just didn't have the guts to pull it off sad to say because she really had something special when she was on the ice.

  • what did she win at worlds?

  • what did she win at worlds?

  • she could have been the world champion, but she simply threw it off... makes me mad cuz i wanted to see her as the champ here... but she messed it up... such a shame

  • i hate this performance, dont get me wrong, but i got so mad when i saw this on TV... i know (and im pretty sure its not just me) that she's capable of delivering an breathtaking performance... SHE CAN... but she just didnt... i loved her on the olympics, even with the falls at the begining she recovered so strong, and had a great feeling... here i dont even think she's feeling the music, she even had problems with the spirals... she just wasnt there mentally... and she could have been the champ

  • oh god, i know rite! thats why i was never a fan of her. her spins are great but thats it. she has some natural talent but it seems like she just gets by on that. michelle kwan didn't have natural talent but she just worked so hard and now she's a legend.

  • I agree with much! It simply shame! Awful driving! In fact not Slutskaya, neither Arakawa, nor Cwan-did not participate in the championship. Девочка-green light to you burns... And вообще-it is very a pity to me it!

  • This performance sums up her career...With no Shizuka, no Irina and no Michelle this World Champion was all but handed to her but she threw it away. What shame.

  • I remember reading prior to these Worlds, Sasha said she wanted a World Championship, and she thought that it would be easier for her to win, as her major competition wouldn't be there. After this performance, her coach, John Nicks, said that he felt sorry for her over her not winning.

  • this program was just like her LP in Torino 2006! and the dress is almost the same.

  • isnt it the same dress?

  • yeah....

  • i thought it was but then you said "almost the same"

  • haha yea

  • well she deserved the critism from the commentators yes she is graceful but you have to accept that she sucthats the reality

  • my sister is friends with her little sister! =) i had dinner with them and been to there house... =)

  • she is my hero her coach used to teach mee

    xx

  • Has she ever skated a clean long program?

  • Yes, especially when she falls all the time, she brought it to a new art form, LMAO!

  • THAT is hilarious! And sad cuz it's true...

  • This was her chance for world gold...it was on a platter. But she tripped and knocked the platter over and Kimmie caught it...oh well. I don't know if she'd be able to push hard enough for a medal on the world stage now, not with all of the Japanese ladies and US skaters like Zhang and Nagasu coming up...

  • herm712 is right. she won't be able to do well now.

  • Um...she started acting after this.

  • Not really. She screamed and smelled Will Ferrell's jock strap in "Blades of Glory", but that's all I've seen so far...

  • She did indeed. It's just in many performances she has more falls. I feel she was confident going into the free skate but as soon as one thing went wrong then a couple of other things followed.

    Abby

  • Is 'ithinkofmyself' here? what do you think about this program? i think you would say yes she is the best lol

  • I really like these commentators. I like them even better than Dick Buttons, Peggy Fleming & Peter Carruthers. Thats just my personal view!

  • I hate those commentators btu she was so graceful! She even fell gracefully >_<;;;

  • she did so well in the SP that in my view she was very over-confident here...one mistake led to another....she's the type who takes it too personally when she falls and all confidence is lost...oh well.

    Abby

  • pity

  • Poor Sasha... The second flip was when it started to fall apart. Her double axel, too bad.. A double axel is a ladies international competitors bread and butter. Too bad..

  • This was painful. It's such a beautiful program, I wish we could have seen her do it to the best of her ability just once...

  • i love the music and the girl is so beautifull

  • Yes but there are something like 30 different version of this music...

  • i agree! and for Meissner 5.9/5.7, Sugurie:5.7/5.7, Sokolova: 5.8/5.6. Under the old scoring system, would she have been out of the podium? or third, just like here? i think she'd have been third! but i don't know...

  • on that first spin she luks like shes going a lil slow...maybe thats my computer, but i dunno. this was not one of her best performances, all in all

  • Sometimes I wonder if she does this on purpose?

  • What is the REAL title of that music??? Thank You!!!

  • It is Romeo and Juliet but not by Tchaikovsky, it's by Nino Rota, if that's what you meant

  • The music is the theme song from the 1968 movie 'Romeo & Juliet' by Franco Zeffirelli. I believe it is more popularly known as a "A Time For Us".

  • Sometimes we make love when where watching Ice Sports

(me and my girl i mean)

This was beautiful enough to make love to

  • that was the most disgusting thing i have ever seen. every jump made me want to throw up

  • how mean! like you could do any better!

  • hehee thats borat/ali g's name =P

  • lollllllzz

  • those commentors really have such sharp tongue! the way they comment on her, really frank.. tad too frank though..

  • they only say what everyone else does, she's a beautiful and talented skater who let's it slip away with her pathetic inconsistency...frank but too damn true for any uber sasha fan!

  • me took like, 1-2 weeks just to move properly in the rim! let alone, do foulettes!

  • it's such a shame, she is so beautiful that if she could have ever put two clean programs she'd be tough to beat.

  • Oh yes, they're very difficult - level 4, and the positions she hits, etc. Very hard, no one else can do 'em like Sasha does.

  • She has only a technical problem.

    She always falls over back.

more angle is required for a rotational axis, I think.

  • Poor Sasha, competition is just not your thing!

  • That's not true. Everyone has mistakes. When you stop falling, you stop learning.
