  • Wow!! that is a classic, thanks for the video.., very educational..

  • THIS WAS VERY HELPFULL IN MY UNDERSTANDING OF HOW AIR BRAKE WORK, YES IT IS SOMEWHATE DATED, BUT I BELIEVE THE PRINCIPALS ARE THE SAME, THANKS AGAIN.

  • I am a tractor/trailer driving instructor for the USAF. Although this video is almost 50 years old, I still use it as a training aid. Some things have changed over the years, but the concept is still the same.

  • 3:40 Westinghouse self lubricating compressor. Bullet proof back in the day!! I still have 3 in my inventory (new old stock) Going to use for gas powered compressor units.

  • Except that my brakes operate on release of pressure, not by the pressure itself. If I lose pressure, my brakes are applied and I can't move. I believe that's true of all modern air brake systems.

  • yup jus watchd that whole fuckin video.............these ppl wur so stoned

  • best airbrake tutorial ive seen so far!

  • wow i learned both how compressors and air brakes work in just 10 minutes!!! years of research.

  • tutorials was better these days...

  • check out the guy jack hammering away at 33 sec in. check out that protective gear " a hat"

  • the dmv should give this on dvd for the cdl manual on airbrakes

  • well my trainer said study your airbrakes and this helped alot

  • ORDNANCE !!!!!! look at that dam truck... awesome. great vid. thanks Public resource.org

     An army of ONE

  • To bad these privates are retarded now-a-days.. What I wouldnt give for a Jimmy and a gear splitter in my vehicle.

  • The US army does it right! Damn fine learning material.

  • ESTA MUY INTERESANTE EL VIDEO AUQUE ES ALGO VIEJITO, ES EL MISMO PRINCIPIO DE SISTEMA DE FRENOS DE AIRE, GRACIAS POR COMPARTILO CON TODSS LOS USUARIOS DE ESTA PAGINA, SI TIENS MAS VIDEOS ASI SE LE AGRADESE

  • there was no metion of the park brake release valves

  • Thank you, dude! After boring reading about air brakes in the CDL guide, this is like a novel that got filmed!!!

    Army Strong!

  • Thanks for Posting.

  • so the pssshhhh sound all big trucks and buses and fire trucks make periodically is from the air brake system?? when the reservoir need to be refilled and at pressure holding the valve closed is vented to atmosphere?

  • This video is great, it helps me a lot.

  • amazing video. aside from a few variations (mainly PSI values and a few parts) this video is as detailed/accurate as it gets. thanks for sharing it, it will definately help a lot of people pass an air brake test.

  • i have an exam friday this should help!!!!

  • this video is too deadly!!! explains things perfecly for young simple minded, non mechanicly inclined suburbanite potheads like myself. thnk u so much for posting!! very helpfull

  • tanks guys

  • thats some good info!!! 5 stars

  • thanks aloooot man

it helped me alot with my project

    you rockzzz

  • Great video, really cleared things up, adding park brakes and anti compound valves would be great too!

  • @11:24, WTF that animation is cute!

  • wow, a guide for 3 year olds

  • in 21th centry, the air disc brake appeared, they have more stopping distance than drum air brake, same braking performance when it was heated. air drum brake on the other hand tend to stop longer distance when heated. air disc brake was used by TGV passenger train and large percentage of truck/buses in europe

  • if I'm not mistaken, the air disc brake's rotor is made of Carbon fibre-reinforced silicon carbide as well as brake pad. TGV passenger train is using this type of brake since 1980+, used on heavy truck will gave it a passenger car like feel. air disc brake work like a disc brake on many passenger cars, but the material of the brake is different and is actuated by air pressure

  • So...informative.

  • i work in the industry and learned alot from this i'm only a warehouse guy but this puts a new twist on what all the parts are that i deal with on a daily basis hopefully i can find more of these info videos so i can get a greater understanding for what i work with

  • The ADV (Auto Drain Valve) makes daily 'wet' draining less necessary (though NOT unnecessary!)

If ever you get close to a QRV when the pedal is released, it doesn't half make you jump! LOL

  • Been in the motor trade 36+ years and this is the best thing I've seen describing how air brakes work! Ah, memories.........

  • im paying 160 for an airbrake course and just got this for free at home. i feel like a sucker.

thanks for video man. itll help alot in prep for the class.

  • It is amazing how 95% of the parts haven't changed in 40 years.

  • @qazwas2001 little more advanced, but yea pretty much the same

  • @qazwas2001 40 years, that would make this video from 1970, this video was probley made in the late 40's

  • @tomas599 The video is from 1967, that is the date at the start when it says "The United States Army Presents"

  • @qazwas2001 oh yeah 1967 at the start, yeah your right. wow looked 50's at the lates to me anyway.

  • @qazwas2001 MANY parts have changed and are different. I have just taken the AirBrake course.

  • So simple and accurate. got more of these videos?

  • im 28 and i got more info from this vid than i have from any other one here on youtube ....thanks the the vid mr.

  • It's crazy how the principles of old air brakes have remained the same, but the method of execution has been changed to the complete opposite!

  • Old informative videos are better than today's

  • Would this be considered a dual air braking system?

  • Thanks for putting up, informative simple and clear!

  • Clear and accurate. I was born in 1968 and it made me feel old. The information being presented hasn't changed too much but the presentation of information sure has! It wasn't even in colour!! hahaha.

  • no this is the real deal,,military style,,i love the info video

  • Hell yea!

  • Thank you, this is very informative video.

  • This is da bomb yo. lol JK very helpful and great teaching aid....

  • Awesome! It's fantastic to watch an old film where the technology hasn't differed much from how it is today.

  • cool! it made my exams easier.

  • Really Neat!!
