The E train used to use these cars, then they started using R32 cars, then the R40 cars and now they using the new cars. The only trains now that uses the R46 cars are the A, F, G, V, R trains

1st they have nasty orange 1970's colored seats

2nd the seats that are on the wall facing someone at a 90 degree angle so your knees hit there hips

3rd the seats with 2 by 2 facing each other (creating problem #2) to promote socializing yet no one ever does

4th the buckets seats.. well i actually kinda like those however i cant slouch very well. that is the only good thing about this kinda car, bucket seats. not if you are fat or next to a fat person tho :(

Well, at the time I posted that comment (4 Months Ago), there were R32's on the E still. No R32's are on the E now. They can be found primarily on the A and C. There can also be found on the R and V.

The E train rider also hate the R32 because it had no air coditioner in the summer. The R42 are moving to the A and C because the R160 will go to the E and will displace the R42 and replace The R32. The R32/R38/R40 slant will retire when the R40M/R42 move over to the A/C lines and R160 move to the F/R and more R46 on the R.

The R179 is not to replace the R46 fleet, it is to replace the R44 fleet. If you look at the MTA's 2008-2013 Capital Budget Plan, on page 38 it clearly says that they will order 208 R179s to replace the R44 fleet. So the A train will have R179s.
