How to use source dedicated server

Everytime I try doing this, I click to create a game with the default settings and that nice window that pops up after doesnt ever show up..it's strange.

@robszol Sorry, i dont quite understand what you are trying to say...Im guessing you want to know how to play on your server, you will have to run the game, so in this example HL2 DM, and then connect to your server.

Does "-whatever- dedicated server" have to stay open to for your server to stay online?

@GuitaristDill You should do, if you go to the tools tab you should see alot of unistalled things, one of which should be source dedicated server. Right click it and select install. It will not be found on the games tab, but the tool tab after you have installed it.

@Kewilson397 I dont know much about left 4 dead but i am aware of a left 4 dead 2 dedicated server. I dont know what further options that hold but i think that will be your best bet. As i say i dont realy know what verus mode is, and if you need some sort of a mod to use it. I think it would be best if you looked for further help on this. Thanks for asking anyway.

for the password, is it 2 keep people out of my sever and only people who knows the password can join?

@Kewilson397 The RCON password is not a password for people to join the server but the "player password" is to password the server and prevent those who dont know password from joining.

do you know how i can use the console in the game for changing settings and stuff instead of the one on the dedicate server window?

so i don't have to minimize the game every time i want to write a command..

What i think you are saying is how to access the console in game. If so you want to pause the game and go to options and go to the keyboard tab. From there click advanced and tick enable console. Then click apply and when back in game press the button nder the escape key. Let me know if this is what you were asking.

umm i made the server fine but once server was up and running i joined but my friends couldnt any idea how to like make it public for other people to join i make it internet not lan but he cant join any ideas?

Try giving your friends the IP address of the server. The server will only be only while source dedicated server is open. Once you are on the server your friends can click on the friends tab on the server list. They should be able to see you on the server. Message me again if this works or you have any further problems

It does not need to be unknown. I just set it as an example. You may of put numbers which i do not think will work. If you have any more problems feel free to ask again.

right. Try checking how you set up your server. Have a look at 0:49 and put your exactly the same as mine. That is all i can advise. When does it say this message anyway?
