@icystagg. Too funny! My Best Man at my wedding, Glen Abraham, was also a dead ringer for L. Fignon. And we were racing bikes during the 80's. He even rode the same size frame. same nerdy glasses. Same headbands. He even bought a Renault jersey. My wife, not a cycling fan, even bought my story that he was the same person. She didn't question it enough to look at LF's name on the poster I had in the garage. When I told her the truth, she was really suprised! That's how much alike they looked!
Never a single day in yellow for the hapless Poo Poo. Conversly, Ocana took 9+ minutes out of Merckx in a mountain stage, when Merckx was at his prime. I'm a huge Merckx fan, but that was pretty awesome of Luis! And I raced with LeMond, so of course, I relish his being included on this list. and why does his first World Championship get forgotten? He was Junior World Champion. It is a UCI event. Doesn't tit count, or what?
@nonfictionone I'm a fan of lemond also and I hope he busts Armstrong one day, but the one thing lemond lacked was tactics, like when zoetemelk won the world championship against lemond
just a thought on lemond. Lemond on form, who could beat him. I REALLY admire many manyu other cyclists but I always feel one against the other lemond would beat them if both targeted the race. Merckx probably the only exception as always. I suspect only those wo rode against him know how strong merckx truly was.
Nice job selecting the footage, I think anyone who does not agree with your selection should edit and upload their own video or stop whining and stare at the Lance poster on their ceilings.
although i must say that I think Ocana is very harsly ranked,
he had to face the golden years of Eddy Merckx therefore he did not have much chances to shine. besides he was very unlucky, he suffered many accidents during his career, thou he had a great sportsman spirit and never gave up, as shown by the footage he raced even after bleeding like a fountain does water, had bronchitis too.
so, I think Luis Ocana shows the real sportsman spirit and that should be counted.
fignon was superb!! loved his system u moutain top tour de france win over fuerte when he was still in the wilderness years - priceless joyous expression on his face!
surely lemond had to be the ultimate wheelhanger, not zoetemelk?! lemond was SO stylish tho! looked amazing on a bike!
ps whats the track you've used over the alfredo binda section? i've been dying to find out what it's called since seeing the movie bright young things!
First of all, the period music to match each rider is very classy. Second, the music choice itself, ROCKS! These are great songs. Third, the footage of all the riders is top-notch and funny. Great job!
I think Thevenet should be 27th in place of Van Impe who didn't win much... Thevenet was the first to beat Merckx in tour de france 1975, what else to say?
You know, "I Fought the Law (and the Law Won)" would have been a much better choice for Poulidor than for Rominger. (And it would have been a bit kinder to poor old Poupou!)
Moser won a lot and for so long you cannot call him overrated!
If he had run in a more conservative and provident way like some other of his generation of cyclists/calculator like Saronni or Hinault, he could had won much more races.
He had only a fault: he tried to command races like Eddy Merckx not being an Eddy Merckx.
If he would had race only 2 races a year like Lemond or Armstrong he would had won both.
Binda's overrated. Great champion but the Italian races from between the two wars were ridden only among Italians and he rarely got out of Italy. Moreover he had a very strong team.

First of all : A BIG THANK YOU, Wenck!
Then, I do not want to comment your classification - just wish to say Francesco Moser nickname is The Sheriff!!!
And I would like to find a new one for Joop Zoetemelck :-)

Hugo Koblet was strong at least as Ocana...
Van Steenbergen was not so distantfrom De Vlaeminck and Van Looy...
Moser is grossly overrated...

Binda only 13 is a shame...
He deserve a spot in top 5
In Giro 1927 won 12 on 15 stages, in 1930 he was paid to race not cause he was too strong...
Won 3 world championships...

I think that the author of these videos has brought up during the 1980's to put Lemond or Fignon befor Ullrich or Pantani ^^
Is Armstorng in the top ten?
