great job on this video! What would be a really helpful addition would be short excerpts from some of his solos where he actually uses the patters so we could/see and hear his phrasing and motion. I'd like to know what his hi-hat is doing during a lot of these fills. Is it keeping time?

@dsb0013 Thanks for the kind words and glad you found this old video of mine so useful. I'm afraid that I can't remember where I saw Dave play this so many years ago or what his left foot was doing but it was almost certainly bashing out 1/8th or 1/4 notes. I'd recommend trying to play smooth stream of eighth notes with your left foot whilst playing this lick and then move onto quarter notes once you feel comfortable. Thanks for your interest! Rob
