This is probably my favorite New Order song of all time. Peter's bass is unbelivable on this track. Agreat band too see live. Thank-you for this post.
In my opinion, this is probably the best "Greatest Hits" album ever made. A true retrospective of this band's evolution from the ashes of Joy Division to the point where they were at their creative peak. Spend the extra dough for this one, rather than the single disc "Greatest Hits" that came later. After "Technique", the band seemed to lose its way.
Happy Birthday, EGG! When twas released 30 years ago this month, I started playing it on a loop in my room upstairs at grandma's. Grandma got run over by New Order. Ma grand-mère maintenant c'est avec Ian Curtis. 'Love [& a broken hip] will tear us apart.' '...Help me, somebody help me, I've fallen and I can't get up...' to heaven. 'Please show me the way...' to the 12-inch EGG. 'It seems like I've been here [done that] before.'
love that gated synth hook,if you listen carefully its not a million miles from the guitar riff on the smiths how soon is now!

I bought Substance in 1999 (I'm 30). It got me through my A-Levels!

May I recommend the book 'A Concise Guide To Eighties' Music' by Karl Vorderman. The author is a big fan of this track.

Every note in its right place, every tempo at its correct pace, every lyric at its proper delivery.
