Just saw this movie on DVD (purchased Kurosawa Samurai Edition for 10€ on Amazon :D)
It was bad. If you're looking for a good Samurai movie I wouldn't know why to recommend this one. As said, it was bad. If someone wanna know why I'll tell you my opinions about it.
Nice review, although I'd venture to say that Sanjuro's motivation is more hunger than boredom. Being a ronin in late Tokugawa era Japan means not having a steady source of income or a place in society other than what he makes for himself. He couldn't pay for his rice and sake at the beginning, unless he killed some people, so he stirred up trouble. Ronin were a lot of trouble in a social system where everyone has a niche and no one strays...good thing Sanjuro was a relatively 'nice' ronin!
well said, Mifune/Kurosawa has to be one of the best director & actor collaborations ever.i loved what he did with nakadai in his later films though too.Mifune may be one of the best actors in history.
Yojimbo is like the move last man Standing with Bruce Willis

Adaptation? It's the same god damn film. They're both still great though.

yojimbo, sanjuro and seven samurai are all epic but yojimbo is the best because of the comedy value

This is a great film. I have it on DVD. My father is a big fan of Toshiro Mifune. This is my father's all time favorite film as well as mine.

Yojimbo is a classic, after Seven Samurai Kurosawa's best Samurai flick IMO.
But his best film ever has to be Ikuru.

@BobbitsWorld Ikiru changed my life. This, Ikiru, Seven Samurai, Sanjuro, Rashomon... really good.
