  • can some one please watch my vidoe and let me know if it sounds like a whistle register?

  • What's the matter with Shanice? Why don't you like her? xD

Besides, Minnie's whistle is the best!

  • that Shanice girl cannot sing

  • Im a guy. How do I do this?

  • @corrda1993 Most males cannot use the whistle register. And for the ones that can it is generally unhealthy to do so unless it comes naturally and easily to you. Only a high baritone or high tenor may be able to produce whistles.

  • 3:25....WHOA....my dick just got hard!!!!! :-)

  • My wife could hit those whistle notes when I used to fuck her in the ass. :-)

  • Mariah the Bestt!!!!

  • Ok guy... i know nowadays Mariah is doing A LOT of lip sync, but at 5:12 she made a very hard vocal transition without pause!!!! Great!!!

  • Vitas can even sing in ching chong chopstick language. Notice the INHUMAN natural autotune effect that he can do with his whistle register. Smoooooooooth and curing.

    watch?v=DFzqw9Hbmfs

    PERFECTION!!!

  • Vitas is the best, the rest can go eat dust.

    watch?v=ygJYxMP_ICY

  • These whistle "blowers" are a step below compared to VITAS, the Russian dolphin prince who can do near electronic pitch with his whistle register, its so clear, crisp and smooth that it can cure cancer. SERIOUS!!!

    watch?v=VCE3W54AgSE

  • This is how Mariah Carey sounds when her big black husband is banging her.

  • Sounds like an old kettle boiling water.

  • IM soooo JEALOUS!!! Ive always wanted to sing in the whistle register since i was little im only 15 but hey it may not b too late to learn!! xD

  • Love em all but especially Mariah and Minnie. MINNIE killed it at the end. Nice...

  • @96Mlm Hey :) what do u mean when u say whistle register is a 'fake' voice that can't be projected without a mic? I'm only asking as I have had a few shows without a microphone and was able to project my whistles very loud and strong.

  • @hessounusual95 Try with a Haaa sound pushing a bit of air as you approach the whistle note and during u gently add a bit of air through out the whistle

  • @MrFutureseer I disagree, I have been whistling for many years and also seen ear nose and throat specialists. Airy whistle notes do not mean unhealthy whistle as you strain less when you add more air and it is more gentle on your vocal chords. U can see in my videos :)

  • Love the video. I'll be uploading some better quality whistle videos on my channel soon. Hope u can stop by and check them out ! :)

  • The Bitch the Read hair sounds a hot messsssssssssss Mariah Carey Is The Only Listenable Whistle Regester singer Others Sounds Like Thier Screaming

  • here Lady Gaga doesn´t exist!!!!!

  • Yma Sumac sounds fucking creepy in this video!

  • this is a great video! tnx

  • I can hit the note and I feel comfortable doing it, and i hit it everyday. But i don't know if its right because i just let all of my vocal chords just rest while i use air to hit the top of them and i get the note and I hit Mariah's all the time??!!?

  • @iMackid97 Its Possible You could be Using Super Head Voice

  • @iMackid97 Upload A Video And Show Us

  • I need to learn this. It'll really add to the karaoke sessions :]

  • This is a GREAT video! Love mariah Carey's whistles!

  • betty wright can hit those notes as well. minni, and shanice wilson. theres another girl who can i just cant remember her name.

  • thanks for sharing, very good video.....loved minnie voice and music...never understood what mc was about, understand better now....minnie was interesting, songs were well written, today's ballad singers are mostly boring....gaga is not a singer she smokes and drinks, she is more of a visual type "act"...

  • who's Shanice?

  • @chesleycareystar Shanice Wilson. She had a hit years ago "I Love Your Smile"

  • Whats the clip at 1:59

  • I still don't get the difference between falsetto and whistle. Does falsetto just sound more squeaky or something?

  • @Askimoula just look it up....this vocal coach named brett will show you and tell you...

  • /watch?v=WNlQedxTaDg help!!

  • thanks for the video, very informative.

  • does anybody know the name of the first song maraih sings? aka 0:01

  • @bigbiyr3 It's called Bliss from her album Rainbow...

  • I am so impressed. lol

  • Gosh I cant even hum lol

  • Minnie is the best

  • Yma Sumac killed that C7 in beginning of vid, I love her

  • Mariah Carey is the best. She's not human. She's a bird... looking like a human. LOL. but srsly.. She's GREAT!!! I love her sooo much!

  • that was pretty stupid comparision..i thought aguilera's high pitch singing sounded good not strained or whatever..

  • CAN MALES DO IT

  • @movieman7000 Yes

  • @movieman7000 yes... its just its used a lot less in music by men.

Its a hyper extension of the head voice as mentioned, begining around E6

  • Why wasn't Lisa Fischer featured on this video?

  • @aqkenny04 Lisa doesn't have whistle notes. She uses a connected head voice (which is NOT the same as falsetto) to sing those high notes like the high G in How Can I Ease The Pain, which is even better than whistle register (much stronger).

  • Mariah Carey & Minnie Riperton are the best in my opinion.

  • Minnie Riperton is a vocal BEAST!! OMG! those notes were fantastic!!! & Mariah is in a league all her own.

  • I was searching how to whistle, but now I'm fascinated with this instead!

  • WOW!

  • mariah careys are the best fly like a bird blew me away

  • No one on this video can control their whistle like mariah. the way she blend it into her music and runs makes her the best when it comes to controlling it in the manner she does. plus none of these other women is mimi

  • @CORdieo18 I think Minnie Riperton has the best whistle, Mariah was good back in the day but now no way.

  • @CORdieo18 chante, debelah and minnie have great control. Control also means really really being able to do it live!!!

  • @CORdieo18 don't forget though that before there was a Mimi, there was Minnie, who MIMI admits she got the idea to practice singing in her whistle register.

  • @CORdieo18 betty wright can control hers:)

  • @CORdieo18 Is Mariah still able to do this?

  • whats the song at 5 29

  • I still wanna kno how to hit them tho

  • So basically.....minnie is just fucking amazing lol

  • Wonderful video clip, but you did omit Rachelle Ferrell, who is one of the only singers to have absolute perfect pitch and execution of 6+ octaves.

  • I like this video a lot =O

  • 0:26 do they sell vocal fries at mcdonalds?

  • Mariah's high notes are the best, in my opinion. Georgia Brown's are just terrible. She lacks much (if any) control and also goes off key in that register.

  • minnie riperton and mariah are the best in my opinion

  • And what about Lisa Fisher who sang " How Can I Ease The Pain"?

  • The ability to sing whistle notes is a God-given gift. I wish I was able to sing those notes like how Mariah Carey can.

  • this video is so annoying

  • lady gaga may not be able to hit the whistle notes, but she can definitely sing better than any of these singers

  • @shirusubemonaku thats the most idiotic comment I have ever read, are you seriously trying to make out Lady Gaga can sing better than Mariah Carey? you need to go educated yourself.

  • @xXxmissemmaxXx they can both sing, they are singers for a reason you know? lady gaga didnt really show her vocal potencial with her pop music which is more to dance on. but that recent song she did with tony bennet was pretty impressive cause she showed she has a nice and beautiful voice... obviously mariah has a whistle register and alot of low and high scales which is amazing. but that doesn't mean gaga can't sing, cause she can :).

  • @barbaraolfers :) I know Gaga can sing, but to say gaga can sing BETTER that one of the greatest singers in pop history is stupid.

  • @xXxmissemmaxXx yes, i do agree with that :). mariah is a bird ahahah :D i love her potencial and whistle its incredible and just breath taking.

  • I bet only a few people know of ''pianissimo''. Take a look at this vid down there. Natalie Dessay, a classical singer. You'll see she hits amazingly high notes, but not in whistle register, but true head voice, with vibrato and a visible ease!

I know you'll ask yourself how that is possible. But yeah, whistle register is amazing, but even more amazing is hitting those same notes in head voice.

    /watch?v=bmYRQWYlDbM

  • You know, just because one can do it doesn't mean it sounds nice. Singers who can use the whistle voice are a dime a dozen as this video demonstrates, and in fact proves that with any amount of training we all could do it. The ones who actually have a beautiful sound are few and far between. Yma Sumac's is the best I've heard--it's clear and piercing, and it sounds absolutely otherworldly.

  • Very insightful. What was the performance of Mariah on 4:34? and what are your credentials 'cause it was very well done

  • @sylvania08 it's called Never too far/Hero medley ;)

  • @sylvania08 Never Too Far/ Hero medley

  • Did you see the look on Oprah's face when Mariah was hitting that note ? LoL

    PRICELESS

  • i can speak in my whistle register!! you just have to make it quite airy then its quite easy to say anything

  • @funnyfacerful How do you make your whistle's airy? I can speak in the whistle register easy, but idk how to make it airy :/ only on rare occasion's if my voice is tired out.

  • @hessounusual95 i cannot explain in technical terms as i dont realy understand exactly how im doing it. but i can tell you that it sort of feels like im pushing the note through my nose - and then to go clear again i just sorta release that pressure and its in my throat again.

  • @hessounusual95 You should not be aiming for an airy whistle note. Thats a sign of an unhealthy whistle. Whistles are actually supposed to be clear, precise, and sharp as opposed to Mariahs airy notes. Her usage of it is very unhealthy.

  • @MrFutureseer I wasn't aiming for one? I was curious to know how it's done though. Mariah's airy tone isn't unhealthy. It's just more irritating to the chords then if sang in a clear tone.

  • @hessounusual95 Well you were saying you wanted to be able to speak so.I dont mean to come across as offensive. im speaking of her whisper singing and how she blends that into her False chord. Old Mariahs voice was clear and crisp. Then later on she adopted the breathy singing. it is unhealthy if it irritates the chords as she does it quite alot and it becomes more than just irritation. also by her usage of it being unhealthy i mean over use of it.

  • @MrFutureseer Not necessarily - her voice has always been airy. If you look at her early albums (Emotions), she did a ton of airy voice on those tracks, as opposed to full voice. The airy voice is caused by nodules (causing incomplete chord closure), and yes it is considered bad technique because one is losing a lot of air and drying out the chords in this process. What changed past '97, she started doing airy voice lower, and people dubbed that the "Whisper".

  • @rekupp Thank you for correcting me. I started listening to Mariah during Glitter and just recently started looking back at her older albums. I always wondered exactly how her nodules affected her as her vocal acrobatics make it hard to believe that there truly is something wrong with her voice. It just surprises me that she has so much control and such a crisp tone in her voice in Vision of love yet, not so much with her later work.

  • @hessounusual95 When using your normal voice, your vocal chordsare naturally able to function properly and produce the correct tone toyour voice. When Whisperingyour vocalchords are being strained (albeit minor) and that can lead to changes in your voices quality. Mariah's breathytone is produced by her being able to exhale along with her singing (as she is very great at breathe control/thiswould normally lead to someone passing out) which can be called whispering. She also uses this for whistle

  • @MrFutureseer also mariah's voice as a whole is naturally airy.

  • Mariah can indeed whistle though I'm not a fan of her style in general, but I must disagree about "best whistler on earth." The best one I've heard is Eivor Palsdottir of the Faroe Islands. She can shriek and sustain it for a long, long time instead of just the R&B little runs and flourishes that western pop singers use these days.

  • ok how can you do the whistle register? can you develope it our are you born with it

  • @luv4uification both.

  • @hessounusual95 thank you but how do you develope it properly this video doesnt help me much. Better yet can you explain it, because i really want to develope it. Pleeeaaassse. Thamls

  • @hessounusual95 thanks, but this video doesnt really explain it well enough, can you explain it because i dont wanna hurt my voice or do something wrong. is there books that can help? i just want to develope it.

  • @luv4uification /watch?v=RLG0viF_QrA&feature=related , that video should help a bit .

  • @hessounusual95 is this on youtube?

  • @luv4uification yes. actually it's in the side with the suggested videos "tips on how to sing (find) the whistle register" by the user primohomme.

  • Who the Hell is Shanice?

  • mariah:

    1. can do transition from chest voice to whistle voice(LOng ago I was used to do it, but this time cannot already cause I overuse my voice but still can whistle LOLz)

    2. can do more high and higher whistle sound like angel or bird example emotios live from G6 to G#7

    3. also can do stacatto in All in your mind live

    Mariah the best LOLz

  • love moore's sound and mariah of course

  • thank you! This video was really helpful! I'm a 21 year old opera college student studying opera and I can't hit B7, and i always wondered if that was whistle or what and now i now the difference. thanks :)

  • @eragonsdolphins lol sorry i meant i CAN hit B7.

  • @eragonsdolphins fml i meant b6 ugh

  • great vid!!!! i think you should have shown how using falsetto when trying to hit notes as high as G6 like christina the pitch is not always controlled (like you said) but show an example cause while trying to hit that on another performance (of the same song) she went flat, or sharp (or both on different performances) i don't remember lol

  • woman do not have a fasletto!! why cant these stupid ppl go read a book on vocality befor they make these vids, lol it just makes u look dumb

  • @lathanregintree I AGREEE! It's annoying when you try to tell people because they learned it on youtube. Whistle register is equivalent to falsetto thought its not falsetto. Only males have falsetto!

  • @Dubble015 thank you i hate these dumb arse vids!! sayig what is not true >.>

  • @lathanregintree LOL women do have a falsetto. Falsetto is nothing more than a disconected head voice, and women are also capable of producing that sound. What the maker of this video meant by Christina using falsetto is that she's using head voice, but a disconected one, which is technically a falsetto, and possible for women. Seriously, where did this nonsense that women don't have a falsetto come from? Just watch those old ladies who can't sing anymore using their falsetto in talk-shows.

  • This is a nice video! I really loved it. I learned a lot.

  • I try to get to my whistle register and I'm a true contralto but it takes work and I don't want to hurt my vocal cords trying to go too high cause I sound better singing low

  • @angelzplay2000 yes b/c thats what a contralto does they sing lowish high, lol u are being confused by these dumb ppl saying that mariah carey is a contralto when they them selves are getting the words mixed up with coloraltura which what mariah is meaning a singer with a wide vocal range from low to high :) look it up please and u will see why u can not go super high like her.

  • @lathanregintree Is it possible for a male to have an operatic head register? Whenever I listen to opera the men are always belting and the women are always in their headvoice but I want BOTH lol.

  • @MajesticKing100 no it is not possible b/c woman have higer voices then men unless u have a genetic diff liek "radu marain" a "true male soprano" look him up but normal men can not go into hea dvoice liek a woman. men have what is called a fasletto which is airy and breaks but can give them a some what female sound but only some what i am a stratospheric soprano vocal range g2-c8 but my genes are weird and i have a girly speaking voice,LOL im newly signed artist as well so look out 4 me :)

  • @lathanregintree NOOO...lol but I want to have a operatic head register? What the heck? Lol and straspheric soprano? *goes to your page*

  • @MajesticKing100 on no ,lol i am not a youtube video poster i already have managment etc... im doing shows etc.. but all i can say as far ur head voice u can try

  • @lathanregintree But can I get a sample of your voice hehehe :P

  • @MajesticKing100 sure, lol just join my new gan page its not fully up but its there. i have a photo shoto set for september and i finish album as well and start on christmas album and all that will eb on there and my events

  • @lathanregintree gan page? eb on there? LOLOL! I don't understand....I'm sorry!!!

  • @MajesticKing100 srry, lol i was rushing :P join my fan page and all the stuff i named will be on there*

  • @lathanregintree Also, it seems to me that you are pretty confused yourself, so you should make sure you know what you're talking about before calling other people dumb. "Coloratura" doesn't mean a woman with a wide range,at all. It means the ability to sing very fast sequences of high notes, like those high Cs in the queen of the night aria. You don't need to be a coloratura to be able to do that, but it helps, as coloraturas generally have lighter voices. Mariah is a mezzosoprano

  • @lathanregintree but she thinks she's an alto because she can hit male low notes like Ab2, but they lack consistency, which shows that she's not an alto. She's not a soprano because her high notes are all done in whistle register, which is a "fake" voice that can't be projected without a mic, and therefore has no use in opera. She can't hit soprano "basic" notes in her head voice like a C6, so she's not a soprano, let alone a coloratura.

  • @96Mlm yea...uum what ever have a nice life,LOL i have been classicly trained since 11 and i can tell by ready ur comment that u know nothing about vocals, lol!!! go kill ur self and stop hateing on mariah carey!! U SAD FREAK,LOL and dont lie and say u r a fan b/c a true lamb with any music/vocal training would never say what u just said u complete idiot,LOL

  • @lathanregintree Umm, when did I hate on Mariah? No you weren't classically trained. Being a soprano is not better than being a mezzo.I just said that her high notes don't matter if you want to classify her voice type, which is true. I am a fan, but I'm not gonna lie and say that her whistles matter and call her a soprano, when there are basses who can hit her notes. She's a mezzo. And I'm not the sad freak, considering you had that reaction just because I told you about falsetto and her voice.

  • @96Mlm dont tell me what i was and wasent b/c u dont eve know me so speak for ur self dumb arse. and i did not say that the whistle register made her a soprano so go back and read. also u dont know her so u can not speak for mariah either!! if i where "u" id stick to speaking for my self u damn tosser,LOL im a brit by the way ,XD!!!

  • @lathanregintree I don't think you were because you think coloratura is someone with a wide range, you think someone is a soprano because she can hit really high notes regardless of how they're hit, etc. The place where you were taught must have been terrible. Anyway, if it wasn't for the whistle why did you think she was a soprano? And you might as well stop insulting me because I never did that, I was just discussing. Why should I know that you're a Brit?

  • @96Mlm u dont know what i know so once again speak for ur self, lol im done with u b/c u r a no body where as i am a some body,LOL!!! so good by trash that knows nothing of vocals :D my album comes out next may with columbia records 'lathan reigntree" look for me ill be on the radio comes this december with my first single :) i also have a new fan page up on fb. have a nice life, lol damn tosser,XD!!!

  • @lathanregintree You should be ashamed of your spelling. I had a hard time understanding what "so good by trash that knows nothing of vocals" meant. YOU are the one who knows nothing about vocals. And I could really fucking care less about your "album" (yeah right...), because with that bitchy and arrogant attitude you'll get nowhere. And you don't know who I am, so you really shouldn't be commenting on who is somebody. And YOU are the trashy one here, with that disgusting personality.

  • So basically, Minnie and Mariah have the best whistle registers ever.

  • Informative and mindblowing. Thanks. My throat is kinda sore just from watching it tho :D

  • Why is it that Mariah's whistles sound nicely in my ear and those others sound tacky and uncreative.... Mariah is the queen of this I'm sorry!

  • I raise my larynx to create my whistles. It's the only way I can, so I keep doing it xD

  • I'm surprised you didn't use Rachelle Ferrelle as an example.

  • the only best high note is mariah carey she is a real pro just saying ... buh if yuh look at the lady on 1:40 she looks like she the only one who can do tht && like its easy tew hit a note like tht well its not cuz it takes skill tew doo tht && practice

  • Really cool video! Thanks for posting!

  • I DONT GET IT

  • hmm christina headvoice...rarely sounds like a whistle to me georgia browns were soo SCARY shanice is cool MARIAH RULES!!!

  • Shanice whistles like that? ..i can do way better :|

  • I actually came here because i thought you would teach it..

  • Mariah Carey is the Best Whistler on Earth..and nobody comes close to her...:)))

    Love u MIMI..<3

  • @GhenMariahyonce1995 :: As the video says Minnie Riperton and Yma Sumac both had this technique nailed. Minnie was the best at enunciating in whistle register.

  • @GhenMariahyonce1995

the best whistler on earth has to go to Rachelle Ferrell...Mariah is very talented and still can't touch her range....look her up

  • My favourite whistler is Mariah!!! She gives more soul to her songs with it and it's amazing! Even if the other ones are good too!!

  • wow!! very nice video. this just makes me love mariah more :D

  • here's a question... is having a whistle register rare? cause this woman has it ... just asking... I mean is it something like one in a million or can a woman with a good voice develop a whistle register? I'm guessing no

  • @stevesg92 its not rare to have whistle register. what makes it rare?: having the ability to really control it.

  • @stevesg92 For women no it is not rare. In all truth EVERY woman is capable of reaching it. However it is far more difficult for some than others. Most don't even try to reach it because mainly they don't want to. if its not easy for you to utilize its not healthy to use it often. Mariah was born a whistler. She used it without even knowing what it was when she was young. Men arecapable of using it also but it is rare for men. However in general reaching it isnt amazing. Being able tocontrolitis

  • @MrFutureseer very interesting.... So it's not as amazing as I thought it was... now a voice like Barbra Streisand's is one in a life time.

  • @stevesg92 I honestly think whistle register is over rated. However if one is capable of using sustaining it with flexibility and vibrato, then that is one amazing talent. Mariah Carey is one of the few practitioners of Whistle register that I enjoy listening to because of her extreme flexibility with it. However people like Goergia Brown not so much because they can only use their whistles in one way. Mariah can speak in whistles. Georgia can only produce the sound.

  • hey there, i thought this video would be sort of silly but it was actually really interesting to watch. i'm a classical music fan but had never heard of Yma Sumac, and Debelah Morgan is new to me as well. Thanks for uploading!

  • THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

  • my favorite is still Mariah but wooooot! Chante Moore sounds beautiful

  • where is this from 1:59

  • @disasterxbrewingx3 watch?v=xBPPXihPlmI

  • Mariah has the best whistle register of all time...hers our legendary

  • eeeeeer do NOT like that classical person, xxx

  • Mariah popularized that register all around the world, not Minnie's case, even if she was the first. The first doesn't always mean the best. MARIAH is the best whistler EVER!!!!!!!!

  • GO MARIAH!! To me, she sounds the best of all of these..wow..

  • all those people are great but Mariah's whistle is by far the most pleasing to the ear while simultaneously being technical, complex, and demanding. Chante Moore is a close second. There's a couple others that weren't mentioned. I appreciate Minnie and others for paving the way but Mariah's voice is a Rolls Royce and it's ridin ALL up and down that road they paved.

  • I am soo glad you recognized Yma...she has such an incredible voice..I adore her.

  • Lol so funny when Shanice is singing so passionately and dramatic even though she's only sayin' is Alejandro, Aljendro, Alejandro XD

  • @charmedone43 bahahahahah that comment lmfao

  • What's the name of Mariah' song at the begining?

  • @kindless100 it's 'bliss' from her rainbow album

  • @kelvinpyaeko thank you
