I saw this ship in Tyrrenian sea, in Chivitavecchia, 80km (about 50 miles) above Rome, in august 2010. It's really really big, and realy nice too!!! :)
I loved crusing on this ship and did not know it was one of the largest ships afloat. I remember they had fantastic little details that made it a great experience. Were you waiting for your tender to take off?
The cruise ships are too large to come in our harbour so they anchor outside the harbour and bring passengers to shore in the tenders to look around and spend their money in our shops.
They sometimes use them as tender boats meaning if the water near the dock is too shallow for the ship they have to use the tender boats aka life boats to go to the dock.
Get your facs rigth....Until the Independence of the Seas was built? what about the 145 tons Voyager of the seas or the 150 tons Queen mary 2.. and a lot other ships!!!!
I was just going by what it said on a few websites when I was looking for facts about it. I specifically check more then one website to make sure it is correct. Not my fault they possibly got it wrong.
@jmsrob, actually Grand Princess was the biggest cruise ship in the world before RCCL's Voyager-class. Also, Voyager of the Seas was only 137,276 GT, not 145,000 (or 145!) GT as you claimed.
@tupsumato Yes!! it was biggest cruise ship, But NOT until the INDEPENDENCE OF THE SEA, as the video claim the VOYAGER was Launched in 1999 one year after, the INDEPENDENCE was launched in 2008
I was in Grand Princess from 19-septembre 2007 until 26-january 2008(Round trip Quebec-city to New York City),and Western Caribbean(Round trip Fort Lauderdale-Ocho Rios,Grand Cayman.Cozumel and Princess Cays in Bahamas).Bon Voyage to all crew members at the moment and in the past.
Hope it's not the Southampton to Med 2 week cruise leaving around 11th July. That cruise has just been cancelled as the re-fit has to take place then as some work needing done must be completed in July. They're talking about borrowing one of the chinese ships to do that cruise, but customers are expected to refuse it.
Very nice filmclip. I like the view of her when you were going under her bow, very impressive, i have seen a couple of her sisterships as well. Thanks.
I recently came of the ship. i went to the foards in norway...... The ship was spetacular and had amazing features. The views were amazing aswell !
