The middle path is NOT 'Objectivity' OR 'Observation', it is "Discernment". If you 'Judge' something, put it in a 'Box' in your mind, paralyze it in your perceptions, it WILL change, but your perception of it doesn't. You lose. (Think of that guy or girl in high school.) For many, "Truth" is like a 'Reality' drug or a 'Window in the Fire'. They love to watch it from a slight distance, just enough to get warm from it. Take the drug just enough to feel that 'special 'Feeling' of oneness. But when it's time to look inward, that drug or fire becomes threatening and they fear what they sought originally because it's dark inside us and the "Truth" won't just jump in and fix us! MANY of the things he said would happen 20 years ago have come to pass, but he is not a 'Seer' OR a 'Prophet' and he admits that.
