I bought the 45 of One Night In Bangkok when I was a teen. The flipside was Merano and it simply blew my mind enough to buy the whole concept album. It simply changed my life. The last two tracks at just over 20 minutes, is some of the most blissful music I've ever heard. I only wish Someone Else's Story was in the original concept album because Elaine Paige beats Judy Kuhn's ass.
I was able to see this musical in London, and it was incredible. It was one of the best plays I have ever been to. The entire soundtrack is fantastic.
and can you believe I bought the complete LP-album, including the lyrics, as good as new, for 2€ (!!!!) at a market three years ago. Almost wanted to raise the bid... Tommy Körberg has a fantastic voice!
just been to see this last week in Newcastle....absolutely stunning......best visual and vocal production ever.......what talent.......I'm speechless..........
Chess is a masterpiece. If it hadn't been written so shortly before the downfall of communism, it would still be much more popular. But better this way than the other!
@blithium That part always cracks me up. It's definitely better whispered than SCREAMED. That being said, this is one of the most powerful pieces of music ever devoted to musical theatre.
This musical is everything I could hope it to be and more. The ending is spectacular and devastating, the perfect finish to such a complex, beautiful show.
Andersson and Ulvaeus are genuises! Nothing can beat this! Chess wasn't well received but in terms of intellectual level and musical composition, as well as avant garde set design, it was groundbreaking. Boo to the critics that gave it such a bad review. Shows that the critic is so far removed from the listener. :(((

@alexloveattack Actually- it was created by 2 members from ABBA (both of the guys- Benny & Bjorn) as well as lyricist Tim Rice.

@blithium It may have something to do with the fact that The American is loosely based off of Bobby Fisher...
Steamrunner92 1 year ago
@Steamrunner92 I was referring to the fact that the line seemed to have been belted of the lungs of a chorus of gospel singers. . .
