  • I bet he cringes at this now...not so much the song as its not bad, but the buttock clenchingly embarrassing dancing lol.

  • When I saw the police on the "Ghost" tour they played this song over the PA after the band did their final encore. I could tell it was Sting, but I had no idea where it was from until I later saw the movie and the promo clip.

  • @davidbspamboy His acting career never went anywhere, but he was perfectly cast in this film.

  • I love this...it is delightful!!!

  • Sting jest niesamowity! Kocham jego kawałki. To jest prawdziwy artysta!

  • I feel happy now xD

  • Pretty much the hottest man alive, back in 1982-1984. He is so beautiful in Brimstone and Treacle, it's almost a little distracting. I mean, he is *beautiful* to look at.

  • A great movie & a greater number. Sting is just a great Presence. I had this sounstrack on vinyl, not anymore.

  • YAY! downloaded it as mp3 :)

  • monkeypoison are you sure he was an evil man ? he did bring her out of a coma

  • In This Film He is SO Evil, i love it XD

  • Great song, well sung & a brilliant video. Takes me back. I hadn't seen this since it aired on TOTP

  • everything you do it is epic ,ALL MY RESPECT MISTER STING !!!!!

  • Yeah... after seeing Brimstone and Treacle, I've decided this is the equivalent to "Singin' in the Rain" in A Clockwork Orange.

  • What year was this?

  • @muckflureeboss18903 1982

does anywhan know ow it is? 'couse stings first album, Dream of the blue turtles, was releast in 1985

  • I loove this song ♪ ♪ ♪

    your dreams come true ♪

  • Ahhhh........Sting.....such a golden boy...... looking like an angel but playing a devil.

  • My Granddad and I used to listen to the original version from Mr. Cinders, I'm really happy Sting did't kill it. lol

It's really true to the original, little different but still good. :) Happy I found it.

  • @monkey1poison Very cool. If you've seen the movie Brimstone and Treacle, the use of this song is painfully ironic - an evil man unintentionally "spreads happiness".

  • Tom Cruise wudda also worked for this movie. He is crazy for real.

  • Reminds me of my childhood - my Dad used to sing this to me...........

  • haaaaaahaaaaa LOVE this song... sounds like an old War song....well done as usual Mr.Sting!

  • I remember this. oh happy days

  • Aaaaaagh jammy git, if I'd ever had had the fortune to have been born with his looks then the girls around the world wouldn't have been safe beleive you me.

  • Is Sting supposed to be a priest in this video?

  • amazing!

  • Ah, some cheerful words of encouragement from the na-baron Feyd Rautha himself. If I had had to cast a musical version of "A Clockwork Orange" back in the 80s, guess who I would've cast in the lead? (And anyone who said "Rod Stewart" knows what they can go do with themselves.)

  • This is Stings first solo single though the 'Brimstone and Treacle' soundtrack features the Police. Good song.

  • Seven-7- people spread a little bit of bitterness as they go by.

  • What happened to the film?

  • What a pure twat he is.

  • @tommykopite

yes but done a few good tunes in his time

  • It's a powerful film but be warned; it's disturbing!

The song is also in irish Radio Folklore as one of those played by Dublin's Radio Nova when they were raided in May 1983

  • No that is NOT sting dancing in the video!! his head was superimposed over the body of Wayne Sleep using state-of-the-art "cardboard cutout" technology!

I also met sting when one of my shortlistings was up for musical of the day. I gave him a lesson in how to play the spoons with his toes and mouth organ with his butt cheeks!

    he was very impressed!!

The world is still a very big place if you'r a fairy fly!

  • Oh what a disappointment ! Who were the body doubles for the OAPs? Lol!

Not seen the film for years - but had a very dark effect when I saw it all those years ago.

  • This song is by Vivian Ellis from the musical Mr Cinders. I met the guy in the early '90's as my own musical was shortlisted for that year. And I gave Sting a piano lesson once. Small world!..

  • Brimstone & Treacle is fantastic, I love how they played this over the credits just after you sicked up into your lap.

  • By the way this video is not actually in the movie BRIMSTONE AND TREACLE. It's Sting's own video independent from the actual movie. The goings on here seem a little too lighthearted whereas the movie is a bit more serious and menacing.

  • One of my favorite Sting songs, but I can't find this in any digital form, neither MP3 download nor compact disc. Been looking for it for years. If anyone has any information, let me know.

  • @cryptical70 Yes in Japan this sountrack was available on a CD! Worth checkin the internet. I got my copy of ebay.

  • Is it him dancing in the whole clip? If so , a really good job .

  • I love to sing this song. Alas, I don't have Sting's voice.

  • Sting has one of the most unique and yet beautiful voices of all time. There could never be a voice that could even come close to copying his. Love this song, it is one of his hidden treasures

  • freaky ass movie! awesome song too!

  • super song

  • This breaks your heart a little.

  • My, my, He always makes me feel so warm and fuzzy. He's delightfully yummy, Sting is. Gorgeous eyes.

  • From when Sting was nasty cool ... now he's just another softie.

  • Do npt worry, Lynn, Sting is also a very small 140 pounder but it has not stopped him....

  • Yeah, that look at the end was pretty funny. I guess that was him portraying his sinister character from the movie, wasn't it?

  • GREAT SONG.

  • I don't know why but in this vid Sting reminds me of Malcolm McDowell in Clockwork Orange. Great!

  • I always thought that too!!! Both blokes are the BEST!!

  • Sting has been my #1 idol since May, 1981 when I first saw The Police on Kasey Kasim's top 40 hits (Don't Stand....) I've worn my hair and dressed like him during high school- '82-'86!!

  • I tried to wear my hair like him and dress like him during those years in high school also. Failed miserably!! I was just a skinny 155 pound twerp then.

  • My brother took me to The Police concert in 1982-83 in Denmark copenhagen-Brøndby Hallen. They played this song after the concert:I was 11 years old.Love the song.Gordon do a great Sting version of the song.

  • Muy quesudo

  • I love the look on Sting's face at the end! This song means the world to me, whenever I'm sad, this is what I think of.... I can't seem to find it on any music sites so thank you for posting it! xoxo

  • That last look is absolutely hilarious.

  • I've drunk after time with his brother in Whitley Bay, thats Phil Sumner. In a pub called Dunes. Whitley Bay is absolutely fuckin awesome and Phil is a nice bloke as well

  • crowman1975 my very first singel still got it and the film it's from =-)

  • Got this on 7 inch single when I was 7 years old. In my 30's now.

  • One hell (no pun intended) of a bold move by Sting to record this at height of The Police's career. Can't imagine anyone doing it now.

  • What a great song! :) I miss The Police :(

    Sting looks stunning...

  • This is a wonderful song from the 1920's and Sting sang it quite well.Unfortunately he has the charisma of a lamp post

  • lol, Sting looks like my ex boyfriend! Sigh...

  • oh thats why i can't find it on limewire.....

  • There's finally a torrent for it on isohunt [dot com] :)

  • Bloody hell - I haven't heard THIS song probably since about 1983!!!! But what a stomping tune! I see that it was made in to the UK charts in the top 40, but didn't do that well. Sting does a half-decent job of the dancing and he's voice is perfect for the song. Ah! Where have the years gone...

  • makes me a little sad, funnily enough. they played this at assembly on my first day at high school when it was number one in the charts. makes me nostalgic.. it was just at the end of the police's career and the start of stings solo career I remember.

  • cool

  • This was one of the cutest things I've ever seen in my whole life!

  • yes, especially when you realize it's sarcasm and you find out he's the devil at the very end when he turns and looks at you like he's wishing you all the contrary he's singing during this clip :D ..cute. you've seen the movie?

  • Yeah I saw that look he gave at the end, haha.

I haven't seen the movie, but it looks pretty good. I just don't know where I can get a hold of it.

  • How true about short-sighted record companies! How Ironic that the music industry is murdering music...

If they don''t consider a song commercially viable, why don't they club together and start a "20cent download" site? For the sake of 25mb server space [for a lossless track] they could keep profitting from it forever.

  • Janis Ian said it very well, that it's "...easier for the record companies to sell a million copies of one recording than to sell one copy each of a million recordings". Never mind that iTunes has proven that the latter is a viable business model.

  • Pure nostalgia! Thank you! If any1 knows of a decent quality torrent for the audio, please gimme a shout - then again I could record this and add some gramaphone style crackles to give it the feel of the original lol.

  • This may be the song I heard played after a Police concert in the 80's! Can anyone confirm this?

  • yep.I saw police in Brønbyhallen Denmark 82.And after the show they played this charming song.I was 12.15 years later.I was in tely sang stings englishmann.Life is strange.Check it out

  • Priceless!!!!!!!

  • rare -- whatta opportunity

  • It's a musical isn't it? Mister Cinders?

  • Comes from Dennis Potter's "Brimstone and Treacle" - definitely not a musical!

  • Yes but this song was originally written for 'Mister Cinders' a musical in the 1920's.

  • Recycling - I love it!

  • Yeh nice one! Very difficult video to find. The song is so sarcastic - when you've seen how the film goes lol.

  • I think the fact it's not available stinks. This is a classic song!

  • Did he have a nose job?

  • oh yes. Between the last Police record and his first solo Dream of The Blue Turtles he had some nip & tuck, and has done some since, including removing the tiny mole under his mouth! Sad what money can buy. Other than that, he still has a great voice and seems to have mellowed out a lot.

  • That's why he looks so good!!!! Oh, why did he get rid of the cute mole. I liked it.

  • Holy, his expression is a little creepy there at the very end-what did he put in that coffee, cyanide? Makes the whole thing look a little like The Priest of Fleet Street lol Good song though, maybe Tim Burton can make a movie out of it lol

  • I think someone did put cyanide in his coffee once coz he insisted on being so dark......trouble is he rose from the dead worse than ever afterward!

  • I met Sting,in the 80,s prom for brimstone-Treacle.

    Hes a nice guy.

    Kirk

  • I met him in 1985, and I found him to be a complete ass. I had thought him the ultimate in "cool" until that point.

    Good music though.

  • hmmm..okay a little creepy..but very very very cute!

  • suck his big fat ass :))))))))))))))))

  • somehow songs like this make me want to live in that early years when it was in some way simpler

  • Life was less complicated in the 20's and 30's

    but mostly unpleasant

  • ive wanted this song for years

means alot to me and my mum!

  • Finally! I've waited to see this video for a long, long time. Thank You!!!

  • Glad to have made it available.

  • Thank You!

  • I looked for it for over a decade. I finally found it. From this standpoint, thank goodness for the internet age.

  • Hear hear!

  • thank you uploading!! Nice song!

    Sting is very cute.

  • this lovely song could have been my late father's signature tune, if he'd had one!

  • mccartney tried this styl;e so why not sting?

  • whoa dude, check your syntax, you sound like shit

  • thank you very much for posting this great song and video. intriguing to see sting as a priest in a soup kitchen! will check out film.

  • This song reminds me of the holidays, perhaps because it came out around that time. I must be one of the few who makes this association.

  • i love this song very much

  • Almost 80 yrs. since song was written but Sting makes it seem modern. Top marks to the former Schoolteacher.

  • I agree - I think Sting was great in the role of devil/angel. I believe he was in a number of films, but probably not his main passion.

  • I just bought this movie on DVD - and watching the closing credits and listening to the song - brings this vid to mind. It is a great video and I like Sting's last look at the end - reminds me of the movie.

  • He really was quite good in the film. His acting career never really took off though.

  • Very vey nice

  • Sting was so sexy in that film. He played wicked well.

  • I love this song and the film is a master piece. if you get the chance watch it, brimstone and treacle...he looks so young there!!!

  • Great song, great performance, how true the words are.

What is the use of being miserable? there are always someone worse off than yourself. so lets take a leaf out of this song and make 1 person happy a day.

  • this just shows how versatile he is... talented beyond measure. Thanks for posting this, it's fun.

  • Fantastically sly vid and song.Love Sting.Does anyone know if there is a vid for "I Burn For You"? Such a Hot song.

  • This may very well be the very best video ever!

  • I really love Brimstone. Cool, albeit twisted, movie. I've never seen this video though, so thanks for bothering to post it.

    I love Sting to bits.

  • great song by sting with a funny video

  • I have followed his career since he very first began, way back in 1978 or 79. I would say that he was one of the most intelligent artists' around [from any era.] The main character for Martin {Brimstone and Treacle} was offered to David Bowie. He turned the part down, for one reason or another. They then went to Sting. He turned out to be absolutely perfect for the part. He brought the right amount of innocence and menace.

  • funny to read comments about how cool sting was in this video. he's playing a part. the movie this comes from has him f*cking parapalegics. i like the underlying shitty looks he's giving while pretending to be innocent.

  • The film could not have worked without Sting. The part required a mixture of charisma and repulsiveness.

  • I am a choreographer and am in the process of creating a dance for circle dance groups to "Spread a Little Happiness". Sting's voice is just right for this song.

  • Please post the video when it's finished.

  • This is rare footage of Sting actually being really cool.

  • As difficult as it may be for people who have grown up with the stiff, self-important, middle-of-the-road Sting, once upon a time Sting used to be a very cool guy, the songwriter of a truly great band. But then he had that pickle installed in his butt...

  • Sting was the lead singer of the Police. The band members kept fighting. Just like the Beatles kept fighting. MONEY and EGO clouds creativity and unity. Sting hungered for JAZZ music and other forms of creative music outlet--even eastern music--Desert Rose. The Police are back together--Surprise? I studied in Ireland and did not like the weather either! Escape!

  • Read Andy Stewart's recent biography to get an overview of how the band happened and how it fell apart. A good read.

  • What's the name of the book?

  • I agree, completely. Sting WAS very very cool in his younger days. I think that, as he has got older, he has become too self-important now. Much more so now, then when he was with The Police, or as an actor. I have gone off him a lot now, because of his attitude. But, one time, he was the king for me.

  • Positive philosophy. Dark clouds and rain must fall in everyones life. Work with the negativity. Sting uses rain alot as a symbol of negativity in his songs. Thousand rainy days since we first met! Big enough umbrella but its always me that ends up getting wet! It might be good to live in a arid, warm desert environment. Sting hears music in his head, natural talent-divinity?

  • He didn't write this song.

  • Sting is a genius. Most intelligent artists have a capacity to reason which is far greater than politians. Politicians only have to know how to speak and smile - something they pick up by the age of 3. Artists, on the otherhand must develop their God-given talent - so they inspire us.

  • I watched the film yesterday and the irony of this song is really devastating.

  • onlly song i like of then realsed it was a cover! oh well, tjis vrsion dose remid me of me childhood nice version av2 say that

  • Shame as with the soundtrack Sting did for Brimstone.. it's all lost. I had so much hope for Sting at this point. Sigh.

  • Why lost? I bought it online for a mint, but I have it.

  • i like his look at the end when he turns to the camera he he very funny if i had a picture of that ohhh the funny captions.. :)

  • Marvelous! And thanks all your posters who have provided deeper insight into this vid...it is cool!

  • I've heard about this strange little clip for years. Thank you for posting it!

  • Nothing like the creepy movie from which the song comes --Brimstone and Treacle. For some reason, when I was young they always played this song at Christmas time. I have associated it with the holidays ever since. A beautiful tune that I finally found on CD after 25 years!

  • actually, his dancing doesnt suck as bad as old kate's

  • thanks...i've never heard this song before...love it...

  • Geez... when this first came out I was quite a hottie.... now I almost look like some of the women in the v ideo...lmao
