  • I think I may have to visit this place!

  • I know a man that grew up in this village and was teaching me words of the yoruba language named osaabemi. he plays the drums among other things. very interesting.

  • This is amazing! Kabiyesi , igba keji Orisa, Ooni of Ife, sent greetings. Iku baba-yeye, alayeluwa, Alaafin of Oyo, sent his love. All of Omo Oduduwa, from Yoruba Land, sent greetings. We keep loving you. We are separated by the Atlantic, but no ocean is wide enough to separate siblings.

  • Oyotunji is the creation of Oduduwa therefore we are totally connected. We praise Oba Ooni Ife ati Aalafin Oyo.

  • Oyotunji must have been founded around the same time that Aiyetoro (The world is peaceful) was unravelling in Nigeria. Aiyetoro was the Utopian commune in Ondo state where the people lived away from government "control": there were no police, no jails, because there was no crime, etc. It is remarkable how Oyotunji has similarly been spared the scandals that often undo communes. Aiyetoro is celebrated in Wole Soyinka's Season of Anomy, but has since yielded to the imperatives of a modern society.

  • i would have been very impressed if they actually went into a west african village and used african actors to portray africans as it would have rung true..i remember those scenes as being a bit to unrealistic... and romanticised..

  • now i know why i didnt feel the village scenes in Roots where authentic!!. it was american!!. There is a american african village style village in western nigerian , outside the city of Ibadan i used to see it on my way into the city you can sort of see it its on the hills cut off from the rest of the community as these people keep to themselves..

  • Thanks for your comment . Roots was not shot in Oyotunji village how ever many people from Oyotunji was used to shoot the Africa scene on Skidaway Island Georgia USA

    Thanks
