  • At 1:03, it sounds like they're singing "Can I find ni****s in my mind"... LOL

  • Im 54 years old and a rock and roller from way back but I never heard this song until it was played on "Coast to Coast " with George Nori. the other night. Good song....

  • where is this song about? I listen to it since i was 4 years old

  • WHO RECORDED THIS SONG AFTER ALL? AS LONG AS I ALWAYS KNEW IT WAS THE TREMELOES WHO RECORDED THIS AS A PRESENT TO CHRISTIE

  • @cbimbi You're wrong. The Tremeloes were given the song and they recorded it but had second thoughts about releasing it. So the writer, Jeff Christie, recorded it along with the Trem's instrumental backing. This then became a multi-million seller all over the world. The Trems later released it on an album.

  • @cbimbi So far we have learned it was originally recorded but not released by The Tremaloes, then recorded and released by its writer, Jeff Christie under the name Christie. It was also recorded by Middle of The Road and in Australia it was covered by Jigsaw to try to get sales by a local band. This was a common practice in the late 60's and early 70's

  • Saw them in '74 in Dublin with a roll on by Steve Harley performing " Sebastian" .S.H. nailed it with only a small echo box.Had my Yamaha 350 rd stolen that night never to see it again.Thank God for 'Ryan Adams' .

  • I once went into a Karaoke bar near Tokyo where they were singing this....Yellow Liver! Yellow Liver!... You had to be there i suppose..

  • I remember sitting on the back porch with my brother singing along to this song......good times !

  • Vietnam..what a hell hole...

  • I thought this was a song about a river that runs through Wisconsin!...Wait, how many Yellow Rivers are there in the world???

  • Ah!..bring back them Days...Strikes...Long hair & Flairs!..Ah...Maybe not the Flairs!

  • Reminds me of someone who cared for me and who I loved very much for his paternal caring of me and my brother as we grew up apart from our father...My late Uncle Chris will always be a special man and I regret not spending more time with him..even though I spent a LOT of time in his company as I grew from a young man into an adult. Thank you Uncle Chris for being the great man you were in our lives! These songs bring back beautiful memories of our times together back then.

  • Some of the best tracks come from one hit wonders thanks for posting

  • when is this from?

  • @88kylling Released 23 April, 1970, hope this helps.

  • Incredible memories - I can associate so many marvelous memories to every musical gem from those days. This song was so overplayed that I disliked it in those days, but have rediscovered it and LOVE it now! Thank you.

  • The last part reminds me of "Arthur" by The Kinks. Both of these bands are excellent of course.

  • 70's Rockers never to be matched again. Music done by talent! I am glad I have all the memories and most of the 8 tracks!

  • @hotstuffandicecream That's right, it was the best of times and music!

  • @paddlepop77 ahahahahahahahaha !

  • @paddlepop77 xDDDDDDDDDD

  • @paddlepop77 Hilarious! I used to have this album. Loved it.

  • my mom very love this song....classic simply

  • Wasn't this there only hit? I still love it, didn't even know it was a British group, thought they were talking about a Yellow River I think in Iowa.

  • @JettRink50 It was their only hit in the US, but like many other groups, they had mjor other hits in the rest of the world. Check out the website and thisyoutube channel.

  • @JettRink50...No they had another hit in the UK called "San Bernadino" which reached Number 7. It was even worse than Yellow River! LOL

  • @JettRink50 yellow river in red china this song is a disguised pro mao communist theme still a good song

  • @wreehill And you are living in the past with your anti-Communist paranoia. As the Vietnam war was raging, this song was always taken by everyone I knew as meaning that the guy was ending his tour of duty and was going back to the states to live in a town called Yellow River. I didn't even know it was written by an English person. It just seemed to fit the "leaving Vietnam" idea so well. Only a right-wing tosspot (now THERE'S a tautology) could see any Moaist propaganda in it.

  • @MusicMadMaurice Something tells me your left-wing paranoia is cauaing you to insert politics into a song which contains none. It is simply the statement of a soldier who has successfully completed his military obligation and is happily returning home to the girl he loves in Yellow River. The song makes no reference at all to the Vietnam War. And even if it did, remember that a Democrat (JFK) got us into it, another Democrat (LBJ) escalated it and it took a Republican (Nixon) to end it.

  • @horarwgt I think you need to read my comment again, and this time do it carefully. I was rebutting the comment of wreehill who had posted a political comment. My text about the song itself is completely free of politics. I know the song makes no reference to the Vietnam war specifically but living in those times, that association was commonplace. In fact, your synopsis of the song's meaning is exactly the same as mine.

  • I detect some influence from Waterloo Sunset by the Kinks in this song. The song itself isn't bad though.

  • I see a lot of yellow rivers after a few beers....

  • I recall this one, from only once played on the radio the year it was released. The oldies radio stations cheat their listeners by letting such masterpieces languish.

  • where is "an absolute epic" button ?

  • Man I haven't heard this in what --30+ years!? And I still remember some of the lyrics! It was a favorite of mine on the AM radio as a kid.

  • @marcostar57 Hello i WAS BORN 1957. This tune just POP up in my head. Then I searched...

  • Well, at least a few posters here get it - it's an anti-war song (sort of) from the Viet Nam era.

  • Very beautiful song; excellent arrangement; and the lead guitarist has something to be proud of with that riff of his!!!

    ed

  • My first dance at 13 in the Summer of 1970, it was said some kids got caught smoking ...shocking !

  • It is a commonly held misconception that the pop/rock video age did not begin until November of 1975, when the outstanding single by Queen - "Bohemian Rhapsody" - was released.

Well, this video by Christie - which was made to promote their debut single (the excellent "Yellow River") - predated Queen's "Bo Rhap" vid by approximately five-and-half years!

  • @TheEctomorph And before that Martha Reeves & the Vandellas shot a music video for "Dancing In The Street" (1963). If you check movie history, you'll discover one reel musical shorts -- sometimes shot like impressionistic music videos -- from the '50s, '40s, '30s and earlier! Check out the history of Vitaphone musical shorts, Soundies, Scopatones, the Hal Roach studio, etc. One song long musical performances were among the earliest of all sound movies! some are here on YouTube.

  • this takes me back so far in time....wow...you are a star for posting dude. music the way it is meant to be...

Belos tempos, belos dias.

  • @Necropolis66Six its beautyful songs

  • @Necropolis66Six I didn't notice it until you mentioned it... He really doesn't seem to be playing the same thing in the video as the actual song...

  • @Necropolis66Six "terrible attempts"???? You jest. :) The guitar work is awesome!

  • I don't know why, but it sort of reminds me of an old Chinese folk song modernized and translated into English...?

  • great song

  • yellow river , yellow river is in my mind an d my hand ..... i love that song

  • Didn't know 2 groups did this song till now. I have to give Christie the edge(rocks harder) but both are great. When this song came out some of the best music ever was being produced and this is no exception. This man fought for us in Vietnam and got pretty close to the Yellow River. The sacred bathing grounds in the Himilayas. Either that or he was well versed in India's geography.

  • @stevenjmancini nah he fought for Nixon and other Rightwing Nuts, not "us"

  • Saiko!

This song brings me back to my teenage.

  • ..Ten people don't like Yellow Liver!

  • Not a bad song from a guy who finised his Tour of Duty in Viet Nam and is on his way home to his hometown! I know the feeling very well!

  • Great song. Loved it when I was 15 and love it now.

  • my name is christie wwwwhhhhoooo

  • AMAZING

  • How did I miss this song growing up? Seriously, I thought I heard every song that ever charted in this era on am radio. Simple. Fantastic.

  • @nitedreamer23 I remember it, but only because my 29-year-old son discovered it and shared it with me a few weeks ago.. It's damn good!

  • Now I see where Supergrass got their inful in "Alright"

  • @sixsixxsixxxx by the way that line about "...the war is won"? hmmmm...

  • @sixsixxsixxxx Posting to yourself shit for brains?

  • @sixsixxsixxxx the spice girls are millionaires. A student became a millionaire by selling pixels on a website. The biggest technological leap in the last decade is small fucking worthless mobile phones. All kids nowadays think university is for media studies...and you think the 1960-70s were shit!! U2 filled stadiums in the 70s and Punk rocked you total fool. Go home. Stay there.

  • @herbajones you suck the piss out of all the yellow rivers you weasel squeezing pussy wart.

  • @FONSIE1000 I'll call ya right.

  • This is a great song. My parents obviously thought so because they named me after the band. Unfortunalty im a man and its a girls name when used as a christian name so i dont really like it but its cool to know its origin.

Also im a guitarist so to know my name came from a fantastic band has helped.

@Mobyboy I totally agreed, an awsome song :)

Rock hard people!! The days of good bands will return :)

  • this song should get at least 1 million views !

  • Don't eat the yellow snow...and don't swim in the yellow river, boys.

  • Number 1 for 22 weeks way back in May 1970

  • 1970's beautiful, favourite part of my life. Music then far better than garbage written and played today. 40 years ago. I was 12 and still in school. Travelling UK at this time and getting about a lot, not much travelling these days. Music was brill and life was too. Wish I was back there again.

  • @MrDayday58 Totally agree 40 years on and this is still classic, how many songs of this 21st century will still be that good that many years later, i ask.

  • @MeBenHalpin ur so right

  • @joshsilverchair Thankyou, glad someone's got great taste.

  • This song is so funny. I always thought they sang "yellow nigger" and that it was a song about a man who saw a yellow nigger and couldn't get him out of his head LOL

  • That's so hippie, playing electric instruments in the bushes. lol. Great song though.

  • Stanford U. marching band adopted this song for a time in 70's and 80's..

Me trae buenos recuerdos.
